Oh he found god, and god told him buffy was evil. And it is evil. Very evil. I mean green peas evil. I'm talking evil on a scale a fat kid stepped on and we can not even call him obese evil. So it was deleted.

What??? Hell, no I didn't delete that thread. This is actually the first time I'm checking in on these boards in about a year, (the board even looks different & wholly fuck, we can curse now) & one of the first things I went to check on was looking for those 2 old threads & they are both gone. :brickwl2: That sucks, they were epic, & then I saw this thread & thought no way, someone is totally copying me. But there aren't nearly matching the detail & interaction I had with everyone. That was awesome watching all those shows like that.

For the record, Buffy S3 was my favorite Buffy season, but the series as a whole doesn't touch Angel for me. Angel become one of my favorite shows ever. Everyone kept telling me to alternate eps b/c Buffy & Angel, but I didn't do it that was & really don't think you need to. I started watching Angel straight through once I finished Buffy. And one of the cool parts of both shows is that what started out as one of my least favorite characters, ended up becoming my favorite character in the Buffy-verse.

My bad then. I thought at one point that was the theory for why the thread was gone. I'm either remembering wrong or reporting wild speculation.

Regardless, it sucks that it's gone now. :(

But did you ever get around to watching season five? Your threads (if memory serves) stopped once
Spoiler:
Jasmine got herself made dead.

By the way, I agree - I've watched both sets of series alternating and it just doesn't work quite as well. Apart from trying to manoeuvre
Spoiler:
Faith's
return to both shows (it works if you watch the first two.....oh, never mind) I never saw the advantage. The only caveat I would push is that you really should advise watching all seven seasons of 'Buffy' before wacthing the five of 'Angel.' The shows do work better as a set, but you do need the Sunnydale backstory to make any real sense of LA.

Not entirely true.

I understood quite a bit and I saw ANGEL first.

Viewing Buffy afterward helped gain more insight, and of course backstory, but it wasn't critical.

Gizmo 07-05-06 09:12 PM

The Angel thread Sessa made is still around...What happened to the Buffy one? Too bug for the server?

You will see a change of quality in season 6 and 7 after Whedon left to do Firefly and Noxon took over.
Regarding Angel, it is darker and more complex and definitely more intense.

If memory serves Sessa 17 started the Angel thread and then abandoned it leaving everyone to wonder how he liked the rest of the show.

Am I the only one who actually liked Buffy MORE in season seven than in the earlier seasons
Yes. Depressing makes good Drama in most usualy cases but the writing here at this poing was pretty bad

Chauzer 07-05-06 11:57 PM

Don't think about it just do it! :) Buffy and Angel are two of the greatest shows ever. They are like comic novels unfolding before your eyes. Without them I never would've discovered Veronica Mars or several of the other great shows (which include shows like Alias, 24, Freaks & Geeks, etc). They are my #1 & #2 of all time. Stick with them past the first season and watch them both become more and more epic. The characters really grow on you.

Veronica Mars delivers her lines so much like Buffy sometimes that it's almost scary, because after I became a huge Buffy fan I had thought no one could've fullfilled the role of Buffy the way Sarah Michelle Gellar did, but after watching VM I think Kristen Bell could've portrayed it almost identically to the point that it would border on freaky. :)

When you start going through them post some updates.

Do iiiiiiiiiit.

I thought BtVS and Angel were both goofy shows and couldn't see what was so great about them from everything I had read about them. But then, I watched one episode of BtVS and was hooked.

Angel has become one of my favorite TV shows ever(season 3 was amazing, and it went downhill after that), and I still need to finish up Buffy.

Season 3 of Angel was probably the best overall, but season 4 was probably the most thrilling season of them all from a plot/story perspective. It was a non stop rollercoaster ride and was basically a 16 hour film. Season 5 was great overall and the last third was absolute gold. Not Fade Away is probably the best series finale ever.

I'd rank Angel seaons like this:

1: Season 3 - Best overall story/character arc combination.
2: Season 4 - Most thrilling story and fast paced season of anything I've seen. Around episode 8 felt like I was watching the grand finale. This one is more plot oriented than the rest.
3: Season 2 - Lots of great stuff here. I'd have no problem ranking this one above season 4 or a tie. It's so hard to choose. I like different things about each one. Great character arcs in this one.
4: Season 5 - this one is growing on me and could get moved up (plenty rank this one a lot higher). I'm thinking of going through it again soon. I freakin love the two newest characters they added in this season. Won't say his/her names so I won't spoil anything for a newbie.
5: Season 1 - Great beginning, but it gets even better.

They're all great. Some are just greater than others and even then sometimes just barely. IMO, there's a lot to love in EVERY season of Angel.

wergo 07-06-06 08:34 AM

For the record, I meant that I liked Buffy the character more in season seven, not Buffy the show.

Angel just got better each season; 5 was better than 4 which was better than 3 etc.

Buffy was at its best in season 4. then 3. then 5. then 7. then 2. then 6. with 1 lagging at the rear.

You're not seriously posting unspoilered plot developments for Angel in this thread, are you?

Well damn!

Someone who loves season 4...and I thought I was the only one - I almost never read anything positive about it!

Personally, my favorite season is season 2, but I pretty much think of ANGEL as one long continuous story, and choosing a favorite season was based purely on the fact that I re-discovered season 2 when it was first released on DVD - I hadn't seen a single episode of it since it originally aired. I just found myself going back to a lot of season 2 episodes more often.

This is proof of how many ways one could view either show. Season 4 is not generally thought of as the best, but there are those who think it is.

My personal rankings for Buffy would go something like this:

1: Buffy Season 3/Buffy Season 5 (tie) - Season 3 has the best character stuff, but season 5 has the best long story arc of them all.
2: Buffy Season 2
3: Buffy Season 6 (after repeat viewings it's close to 2) - Incredible 3 part finale. Probably my favorite season finale in all of Buffy or Angel, though pretty much all of them are superb.
4: Buffy Season 4 - This season has by far the most unique finale of them all.
5: Buffy Season 7
6: Buffy Season 1

Like Nick though, I also usually tend to view both series as a whole.

Yeah, that was one of the few seasons of a TV series that I saw on a TV show that seemed fast paced and the breaks were klling me, because I wanted to see what would happen next. I just remember Buffy season 7 seeming slow in comparison and I began looking past Buffy in anticipation for Angel. which was a first. I had to re watch Buffy season 7 without all those breaks (including commercials) to appreciate it more.

I actually paid $117 for the Region 2 Angel season 4 set, because the US set woudn't be released for 9 or 10 more months and my best friend had just finished watching season 3 with me and couldn't wait to conitinue. Of course I couldn't either, so I spent more than I have ever or ever will spend on a single season.

Season 4 just seemed, off, to me. I know alot of it was re-written due to Charisma's pregnancy, but it was just, oddly weird. Jasmine was forgettable, I thought. Holtz was a much better villianto me. I did like the returns of
Spoiler:
Angelus and Faith
though.

Yeah, Holtz was a better villain, but
Spoiler:
Jasmine wasn't your typical "villain". She offered world peace which was interesting. It came at a high cost; The lives of others and being under a spell, but without her there would be far more suffering in the world which was interesting. I also loved that they made you think the story was one thing early in the season on and then there's a big twist and it goes in a completely different direction. Personally, I thought the whole Jasmine thing was pretty creepy, as it was supposed to be. The season had a lot going on. We got Angelus, Faith, Willow, Angel kicking Connor's ass, Big Rock demon, Bad ass Wesley, mass mind control, etc. Of course I wasn't thrilled what ended up happening to Cordy, but what can you do. Aside from a few negative character issues the story was engaging, IMO.

Gil Jawetz 07-06-06 01:39 PM

Once again, the discussion of characters that the OP hasn't met yet has no place in this thread. Spoilers people, spoilers!

Nick Martin 07-06-06 02:08 PM

It's interesting to note the difference between a typical "Buffy" villain and a typical "ANGEL" villian - the majority of ANGEL villians are human. Guided or aided by supernatural means, but completely human nonetheless.

That's funny. Did I ever finish the Buffy thread? If not how anti-climactic. I was watching those 2 shows like it was a fuckin' mission. And I remember whenever I didn't post in a while, I got tons of email, people actually pissed that I wasn't updating. I got a call that I got an internship that I was dying for right around when I was half way through Angel & that is when I disappeard. Once of the things that sucks about the Buffy thread, was that there was soooooo much written in black spoilers, & I never had a chance to read the thread once I was finished with the show, & check out all the spoiler stuff.

The mods seemed to have no other explaination for why it was gone, but they didn't actually know what happened. There was some discussion of it here (see post #7):

I could have sworn you did finish posting on 'Buffy'. Though (as I dimly recall through the veiled recesses of my failing memory) by season seven you'd given up on posting episode-by-episode and just talked about what you liked/didn't like in batches. I know I was pretty curous about how you'd see Willow
Spoiler:
and Spike
's involvement in the finale (what with you hating Will so much and me being pretty much obsessively in love with her throughout- I always got a laugh out of whenever you'd go into a rant about how horrible you thought she was). I believe you commented on the structure of the finale
Spoiler:
(i.e. Buffy's "brilliant" plan would have just ended up killing everybody had it not been for Wolfram & Hart's amulet - geez, just look a howmany potetials walked into the high school and how few came out at the end),
but not on the characters.
Spoiler:
Willow's a goddess

I can't remember, I know I didn't hate S7 as much as most did, S5 was the season I hated the most I think. I actually kind of liked the idea of all the potentials, but I know I didn't like the finale, & the lack of Giles (who was my favorite Buffy character if anyone forgot) in the last season really pissed me off. And my very unpopular feelings on Willow never changed, sorry  That was one of the huge differences b/w Angel & Buffy for me. Buffy had 2 characters I just couldn't stand where Angel never had one, although I never liked Gunn, but he certainly didn't bother me. Spike near the end of Buffy I didn't like at all, I remember complaining about it a lot. I finished Buffy I think when I was only around S2 or 3 of Angel, so
Spoiler:
Spike hadn't joined the cast of Angel yet
, which even that I didn't like at first but then the bickering b/w him & Angel just got funnier & funnier.
