The thing is, I dont think they are going to be coaches like the previous seasons, more like advisors since all these contestants have already been in the UFC and been training for a while.

Aparently sherdog.com has spilled the beans about the Season 4 finalists already. This has really ratcheted up the feud between the two.

Ortiz to fight White

Contract negotiations in big business can be unpredictable, says Lorenzo Fertitta, the owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It's often difficult to predict where they'll lead.

But even by those unpredictable standards, the UFC was taken aback by an unusual demand when it was bidding to re-sign star light heavyweight Tito Ortiz.
After an acrimonious split with the UFC, Ortiz was negotiating with several other mixed martial arts organizations. But the UFC -- specifically its president, Dana White -- didn't want to see Ortiz wind up with one of its rivals, and White, 36, made it his mission to recruit him hard.

But Ortiz presented a demand that is likely unprecedented in professional sports: He wanted to fight White.

Three three-minute boxing rounds between him and White, Ortiz demanded, or he would sign elsewhere.

White, whose passion and drive built the UFC into a sport that is challenging boxing as the pre-eminent combat sport, didn't hesitate.

"Never a doubt I'd say yes (to fighting Ortiz)," White said, chuckling. "Hey, I know Tito probably has a few things he wants to take a shot at me about, but you know what? There are a lot of times when I've really wanted to smack him, so we both win."

Ortiz will fight Ken Shamrock on Saturday at Mandalay Bay in front of what will be another sellout crowd and a multimillion-dollar live gate for the UFC. A few days later, Ortiz will return to Las Vegas, find a gym, strap on a pair of gloves and get the chance to beat the tar out of his boss.

I'm going to be in Vegas, but not seeing the fight. Does anyone know if the weigh-in is open to the public and if so, where I'd find out when and where it is? Thanks a lot.

Wow. Pretty interesting concept. Does White stand a chance?

As far as Ortiz/Shamrock, I'll be real surprised if Shamrock goes the distance, but I hope he at least gets in a few good shots...

Honestly... I don't think they are trying to make it that at all.. I believe Tito signed a 3 fight contract with the UFC. The first was with Forrest, the second will be with Ken, and I dunno about the third.. After that he's a free-agent. The UFC wants him to be with them rather then any other MMA organization (and for good reason)..

Tito and Dana had a huge fall out a while back and they still don't really like each other (so they say) so I think Tito really would love to beat the crap out of Dana. Dana wants him in the UFC that bad that he's willing to let that happen..

Hopefully they won't make a big deal out of it (WWE style)..

I also read this today:

According to the Wrestling-Observer Newsletter, a highly-ranked UFC official said that the company no longer plans to ignore WWE's public "challenges."

While UFC let Angle's storyline "open challenge" to anyone from a 4-, 6- or 8-sided ring go unaddressed, it will not be doing that in the future. If WWE attempts to put one of its wrestlers over as superior to MMA fighters, it will respond to put public pressure on WWE to make the match happen.

"Now that we have exposure, we're not going to be ignoring stuff like this. We'll go public and have Chuck Liddell accept any public challenges or claims they'll make," the source said.

Pretty dumb of Dana White if he actually thinks Tito will leave UFC. I like Tito, but I don't see him suriving in Pride especially with Pride's rule of no elbowing for GnP. Beside, the competition is much better than UFC. K1 is not the place for him either.

The rule of no elbowing for GnP in Pride puzzles me.. They are allowed to knee and kick to the face with an opponent on the ground right???

Where did you see these fights? I didn't realize this was regularly scheduled.

I agree. I think kneeing to the head or soccer kicks to the head are more damaging than elbows to the head.

It is because elbows cause a lot of superfical cuts that lead to early stopages. In the ufc a lot of fighters have developed strategies that revolve around getting cuts and quick stoppages. I like pride's rules better, because I have seen way too many fights in the UFC stopped early from cuts caused by elbows.

Exactly... Pride has always had a more entertaining brand, and I wish the UFC could strike some kind of deal or merge wth Pride as that would take MMA to the next level and really be competitive in terms of sports entertainment.

I dunno man... I think kicks and knees to the head on a down opponent is going back to the early days of the UFC. I like the fact they can't do that personally.. Some of the early UFC's were hard to watch when they would kick someone in the friggin head while they were down..

Do you have any examples? I've watched a lot of UFC and I don't think I've ever seen a ref stop a fight due to blood. Take a time out to have a doctor look at it and wipe the blood away, but never stop the whole thing because of blood.

This has happened MANY of times.. I've watched every single UFC and have seen it many times.. I can't think of any off the top my head but it happens a lot..

I can think of one.. Chris Lytle was whoppin Joe Riggs when Riggs landed an elbow from the bottom that opened up a huge gash.. It was stopped because of that..

I always think of Kenny Florian. I think he was fighting Chris Lebin during TUF 2 and Lebin was KILLING him. I don't remember Florian hitting him with anything, but Lebin stepped in with his head down and Kenny hit him with a pinpoint elbow above the eye that opened a hideous cut and stopped the fight. I know it's bloodthirsty and graphic, but I like seeing the damage those elbows can do, it adds a little unpredictability to the fights.
