Wow, that certainly puts it into an interesting perspective.

2 things about that:

1) Something has to move to Sundays so there is a show with an audience airing on that night.

2) That "New Show" after Smallville is probably going to be Aquaman (unless it isn't picked up). That seems to be as big a lock as airing Angel after Buffy.

I still can't grasp the concept of Aquaman TV series - it just sounds super-corny. I'll be surprised if it gets picked up.

I agree, but we know that even the terrible Birds of Prey made it to series. It's sort of a no brainer for the WB to pick up DC-based series.

Now that I articulate that point, things may be very different at this merged network that looks like it will be run by mostly the UPN staffers.

I noticed last night that our Wash-DC UPN affiliate, WDCA-20, changed their logo bug from UPN20 to DCA20.

Got wind of this pretty late. Is there any word on what shows from the respective stations will get to stick around? The only things worth watching on UPN are Veronica Mars and Everybody hates Chris. Is it going to be those 2 and the majority of the WB schedule?

Final word won't be coming until the May upfronts from all the networks. I think you can get a sense from the original press release that both of those UPN shows will be coming back.

I also assume UPN"s Smackdown wrestling show will make the cut, along with America's Next Top Model - both high-rated (relative to UPN standards) shows.

I learned somewhere (in this thread?) that the contract for Smackdown expires this year. Who knows what is going to happen with it.

I would be shocked if it's not announced for the CW in May. It's one of the highest-rated shows on either network, plus this quote makes its prospects look good for making the cut:
Despite its continued focus on women 18 to 34, negotiations to run "WWE SmackDown!" for next season are happening, Ms. Ostroff said. "We fully intend to have wrestling on our schedule," [UPN President] Ms. Ostroff said.
http://www.tvweek.com/news.cms?newsId=9226
That quote was made a few days before the merger announcement and was made regarding UPN, but Ms. Ostroff has been named the head of the new network so if she wanted Smackdown for UPN, I'm sure she wants it for CW.

It makes sense to me. Plus, Friday nights aren't usually the big nights for most networks. Better to place shows on Sun-Thurs that are produced by your companies, of which you probably spent more money on.

Certainly true, but UPN was the vehicle. Immediately before UPN premiered, Trek was at a high point: Next Gen had been nominated for a best drama Emmy, DS9 was going strong, the movie was coming out. Since UPN started up, it's been all downhill: movie grosses have slid (with the exception of First Contact), ratings have dropped off. UPN folds less than a year after Trek is off the air.

This is nonsense. If UPN had never existed and Voyager and Enterprise had been syndicated, we'd be discussing whether Trek would have fared better with a network's support.

The crappiness of those two shows killed Trek, not UPN. The network had nothing to do with it. Plus, I think you're remembering your history a little wrong- when UPN premiered in January 1995, DS9 wasn't really "going strong", and Generations had gotten not-so-great reviews.

You completely misunderstand me (and "vehicle" might be the wrong word): I'm not at all saying "UPN killed Trek". I just mean the timing of what has occured since UPN started has followed Trek's downward trend.

And I disagree with the other comment. I would say having an Emmy nomination for best drama, one Trek ending at a high point creatively ("All Good Things..."), one Trek ongoing (DS9), a new Trek just about to start with an entire network almost resting on it (Voyager) and the movie series rebooting with Next Gen would be one of the high points of the franchise.

Fair enough. I interpreted your "vehicle" comment to mean that UPN was partly to blame. I do agree that the timing is odd, but UPN was so close to syndication anyway...

Oh, sure, but I think it's a disservice to forget that there was some bad stuff happening at the same time. I remember that a lot of the TNG goodwill was diminished by the bad reviews that Generations received, for example. And the better Trek, DS9, was overshadowed by the UPN experiment, which is a shame.

Just read in tvguide (print so no link) that Everwood didn't make the first cut for the fall line up. Will be sad if it gets axed but the likes of wrestling stays.

I thought they did pick up Global Frequency but finally canned the project when they couldn't get good enough people in the cast and behind the scenes to make it work.

You neglected to mention the Lone Ranger pilot they picked up until it ballooned into a boondoggle of a TV movie they burned off.

Here's some interesting news from E online.
From junglejen9: Firefly. You gotta spill it if you have any additional info, please!

I've heard the CW is considering bringing it back as a series, miniseries or movie for next season. Hurrah! For you who missed my message board posting, on Tuesday, Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres were seen coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount, where they are putting together the new CW unit.

The best news I've heard in a while. Gets me back to fair after AD's finale and the news that Love Monkey got the early axe.

I thought Whedon killed those rumors yesterday at whedonesque.com? Said he wasn't aware of any plans.
