The market seemingly says NO! Sinclair Broadcasting stock dropped 15% today. They own WB and UPN affiliates in many of the markets where CW will land on the alternate CBS-owned-UPN or Tribune-WB stations.
Fine with me. I'm no fan of Sinclair.

Here in Chicago, I think the local FOX station owns UPN(Channel 50). Just speculating, the now UPN station could probably go back to being WPWR, the "Power Station."
I know most of the talk is regarding primetime programming, but what about syndicated daytime programming? Although, the UPN station here doesn't have much regarding to daytime programs, except Tyra Banks. WGN has Regis, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Maury, and some other shows.

WWE Smackdown's deal with UPN is up this fall so it might not even be on the lineup come fall. Think there's any possibility The CW will be more of a traditional network in terms of programming eventually, by going 8-11 on weeknights just like the Big 3?
Great news on Veronica Mars coming back in the fall as part of this new lineup.

I doubt it. FOX hasn't done this and they have been around a lot longer. Although their reason might have do with the fact that most FOX affiliates have 10 pm newscasts that probably do well as an alternative to the traditional 11 pm newscasts.
I don't know how many of these CW affiliates have 10 pm newscasts.

Interesting. Fox owns the UPN affiliate here and we don't get an HD feed. The WB feed we do. Gimme HD for the entire station, and it'll be OK in my book.

This is just such a weird development. With the shows that both networks have on the air right now, it's clear that some shows are going to be dropped. I'm very happy those shows will not include Veronica Mars, Gilmore Gilrs, Eveybody Hates Chris or Supernatural. Everwood seems on the bubble.
Anyway, if all of this isn't enough, let's not forget that there are going to be some midseason shows coming into the schedule this year. If any of those are hits, then there will be even more scheduling confusion for the fall.
I have to admit that I'm a little worried about this move for some other reasons. I only watch VM and EHC on UPN, but we don't have a UPN affiliate here where I live. So our Fox affiliate shows the UPN shows. The Fox lineup is from 7-9 (I'm in Central Time Zone) and then the UPN lineup is the same as far as days but starts at 10. The nice thing about this is that the UPN shows I watch are out of prime time for me, so I don't have to worry about other shows that are usually on at the same time. I work nights so I record everything with my DVR and can only record two things at once. This move might throw a monkeywrench in my recording schedule depending on where the shows end up.
To add more confusion, we don't even have a local Fox affiliate. Where I live, you can only get Fox and WB if you have cable. And like I said earlier, you have to have Fox to see UPN. So with none of my networks here owned by CBS or Tribune, logic would dictate that what is now WB will turn into CW, but logic so rarely enters into these things.

I think that Canadians will have to wait and see how the local cable companies will shuffle the lineup with the merger. Currently we get 3 WB channels and one UPN channel.
I'm excited to see that Veronica Mars will survive for another season. This is an awesome news.

"In addition, it seems as if that Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars are definitely in CW's plans for the future. Here is a quote from Les Moonves from the conference call: Moonves said, "The idea of putting Gilmore Girls with Veronica Mars is a dream come true for Dawn (Ostroff). She finally has a lead-in that works for that show."
THANK GOD! Veronica!
Apprently CW is pushing towards the younger women demographic, which would obviously mean Veronica and Gilmore Girls are almost confirmed to be renewed. But whats goin on with One Tree Hill? I assume they would fit into the Young women demo, even though I love the show as do many others.

A lot of the WB and UPN affiliates carry local sports and already deal with such conflicts. I'm sure they just air pre-empted shows over the weekend and/or late night.

This is very sad news
I fear for some of my WB shows.
the only show that i watch on UPN is Veronica Mars, and that is definitely not going to get cancelled, but I am worried about some of my precious WB shows getting axed because of all the other crap they will bring over from UPN......like that fucking wrestling shit WWE Smackdown. The thought of having to watch ads for that during my precious WB shows gives me the ickies. Smallville is surely safe, and hasn't Supernatural already been given a greenlight for a second season? Gilmore Girls is not going anywhere either, although I think next year will possibly be its last year for story reasons......
I fear for Everwood and One Tree Hill. Sure, Everwood is critically acclaimed and all that.....but not enough people watch it that should.....and dvd sales were not very high.... I hope to god they keep OTH for a fourth season, it would suck to end my guilty pleasure teen soap before they even graduate.
I think is likely the biggest news in tv history since FOX became the fourth network after decades of only having 3.
