last year everyone said the guys were dominating and a girl won the whole thing so who knows?

In the end, the guys weren't really all that good. Bo may have been the only exception.

Anyone know where I can find the original recording of the song sang by Paris? I don't see a "Take 5" on the track list of any Billie Holiday albums I've searched through.

They seem to think it was never done by Billie Holiday

Anyone know if the Presidents' State of the Union address will interfere with Tues. Jan. 31st American Idol?

AI 8-9...SOTU 9-?

muMbLing 01-30-06 09:45 PM

ok, it's only one hour this Tuesday, unlike the last two weeks.

Patman 01-30-06 09:46 PM

So the Commander-In-Chief will most likely be pre-empting "Commander-in-Chief"? Irony, loving it.

Yes, the show tonight, Audition #5, is from 7pm to 8pm CST. Audition #6, tomorrow, is also one hour.

Audition #7, next Tuesday (Feb. 7th) is one hour, and starting on Wednesday Feburary 8th... Hollywood #1 :)

Though Hollywood #1 is also only one hour :(

Josh-da-man 01-31-06 07:44 PM

I was hoping that the Russian guy would start belting out "You suck my dick just like berserker!!!!"

GuessWho 01-31-06 09:11 PM

My love for you is ticking clock, berserker!
Would you like some making fuck, berserker!

Patman 01-31-06 11:00 PM

This Las Vegas edition had to be the worse audition show yet.

I agree. There was a reason why only eleven people got a pass to go to Hollywood.

It was interesting seeing person after person with a film backstory - which normally means they are going on, getting turned down. And the girl who got a yes from Randy and Simon, but a no from Paula (the first time I've seen that happen though this is only the second season I've watched).

And as much as I'd like to see a guy go far, there hasn't been any I've liked but there have been a few girls have been really good.

xx2000xx 02-01-06 03:00 AM

That show was just brutal. The only semi-interesting thing was the dude with the gray hair. You know the show is bad when the best thing was at the very end on the previews of tomorrow's episode with the Randy look-a-like.

Bill Needle 02-01-06 03:34 AM

OK, admittedly I'm not the biggest AI fan in the world, but I've been sitting through a lot of the audition shows with the wife (who seems to get a kick out of them) and after tonight I have to ask: Are these shows really so entertaining to fans of AI that you want weeks worth of them before the competition finally starts? It seems awfully repetitive and utterly boring at this point. Don't fans of the show just want them to get on with the Hollywood part already? Hasn't it been something like 8 hours of auditions already? How much is enough?

Weirdly enough, the fans of AI would feel cheated if the audition shows didn't get aired. Plus, it's a marathon process, it's how the show builds momentum for certain contestants (fair or not). Plus, it allows Fox to milk their advertisers for all they are worth in the month of January, and then February sweeps centers around the Hollywood auditions, and by the time May sweeps comes around, the ratings for the final 3-4 episodes are milked for even more ad dollars.

Agreed 100%. Sheesh.

Why are there two threads for this?

I certainly can see why Fox wants 10 or 12 hours of audition shows -- easy money. There's no question AI has earned it's reputation for doing more milking than the entire state of Wisconsin (as was well satarized on SNL).

What I have a harder time understanding is how fans (like my wife) seem to still be eating up the 10th or 12th hour of simple auditions in a three or four week period as much as the first. I can only hear Simon say, "You are the worst singer in the history of this competition" and Randy say, "What up dog?" and Paula do whatever it is that she does so many times a night before it begins to lose some of its meaning. And the interesting contestants have been spread micro-thin through the shows I've seen.

The deal breaker for me was the one night they built up the heavy set black girl as the most outrageous thing in the history of the show for almost two hours, then it turns out that all she did was get kind of mad and swear a lot as long as they kept following her with cameras as she was trying to leave. BFD. They played it up all night like she was going to go Godzilla all over their asses. I had fallen for the hype and afterwards felt dirty and violated.

I think people want to get the first glimpse of the people who will make it to the final rounds.

And after the one hour show tonight (Wednesday), next Tuesday is the last audition show (also one hour) with next Wednesday being the first Hollywood show.

LorenzoL 02-01-06 08:11 PM

Well, if yesterday Vegas audition show was the worst, tonight's Austin one was not any better.

I'm glad that there's only one more audition episode to go before Hollywood.

About halfway down.

I think I might like the auditions better than the actual competition.

Past two auditions shows were kinda blah. Missed going to the gym to watch too.
