I wish Ana Lucia was a little more like when we met her in last years season finale. I liked her for those few minutes. The character this year doesn't seem like the same person, and all the stuff in the flashbacks happened before that bar meeting. I guess the crash just set her off. I do however think we need a character to hate. Every show has to have one. She'll fit the bill.
Anyway I enjoyed this episode. We finally get back in the hatch and we get these two groups together. Next week looks to be a doozy. I'm loving Mr. Eko. He's fast becoming one of my favorites.

Enjoyed the episode overall, but I'm really really hoping they focus less on SWAT for a few months. Send into the jungle to shoot the monster or something and leave her there. With luck, now that we've seen why she's such a wingnut, we can drop her and get back to everyone else.
Figuring that SWAT and Jack had one drink in an airport bar 48 days earlier, would they really remember each other? Especially considering they both kinda experienced a little thing like a plane crash right after? Maybe if SWAT was someone worth remembering I could see it...
So now that both bands of merry castaways are united, all we need is Walt!

Personally I'd like to see Sayid rip Ana's heart out and shove it down her throat. Alas, I think she will become a regular and even have a "attraction" storyline with one or more male survivors.
Are they trying to RUIN this show with that bitch?
Ana Lucia is a garbage character...
Oh whoopti-fucking-do. Ana Lucia's backstory. Yes, we really need this because we haven't gotten enough of this bitch the past few weeks.
EDIT: I can't watch this shit. I'll just wait when I can fast forward thru all the scowling.
Right on, and she is one of the worst actresses on tv. Can she make any expression besides a demonic scowl?? I was really hoping her character would commit suicide after the showdown with Sayeed.
Worst. Episode. Ever.
I have no interest in Anna Lucia's backstory in the least. It has added nothing to the show and has taken time that could've been used to further establish other characters. Michelle Rodriguez' tough chick bullshit got old right after Girlfight.

Her back story was cliched' garbage. The "bad guy that shot me, killed my family or killed my partner" what a fucking snooze fest, cliched storyline. Like nobody couldn't figure out that she said "he isn't the one" so she could go kill him, what movie haven't we seen that story line in, I mean fuck. Lets have a little creativenes here.
The only redeeming quality of this episode was Eko. That guy rocks. He is interesting, silent, but strong and respected within his group, now thats a character that I soooo hope they explore.
Count me in on the anti-Ana Lucia campaigne.

Well, turns out if you either fast forward through all that Ana Lucia crap or mute the tv whenever she's on screen, it was actually a very good episode. Loved Sun and Jin's reunion at the end.
As for Eko, I'm probably in the minority but seems to me like they're trying too hard with the character. You can't top Locke. So stop trying.

I hear the sound of tires coming to a screeching halt whenever Ana Lucia is on the screen. I'd rather they just put her on desk duty inside the hatch and just have her push the button every 108 minutes. I could do without her character on the island.

If AL is detroying the show, please just don't watch.
I still find this to be the most entertaining show on tv, while VM is stronger on substance, and I'm not about to let one moderately annoying character make me lose focus on how much I still love the show.
I love Sun, Jin, Jack, Kate, Locke, Sayid, Sawyer, etc. They've really done a solid job making me care about these people that so far, any of the "it doesn't make sense, or it's annoying, or it's being written without any thought" stuff (what killed Alias after season 2 for me), just doesn't bother me at all.
The reunion was nicely done, I enjoyed that Jack and Kate got to shoot a bit of golf, I've actually noticed that I'm really missing Locke, and I liked how they handle Jack and Kate, when it seems clear she has deeper feelings for Sawyer than she does for Jack. A lot of shows would have let Jack show some annoying feelings of jealousy and, so far, it really doesn't seem to bother him and I like that they're not making that a distraction which it easily could be.
I do wish that just once in a while they'd throw us a bone of normal behavior where someone is talking to someone else about the fact that they now seem permanent residents of a deserted island with strange people who have some kind of special powers, where there's a hatch that has something in it that needs to be tended to or else it might possibly destroy the world. Without throwing the show off the rails, just once in a while it would be good to see people acting like this is not as ok as they portray it.
I really wish they'd use Sun more as well.
But I love the show and really have no major complaints, not even about Ana-Lucia.

Ana Lucia is the new Jar Jar Binks
Its "in" to crap on her
I still enjoy the show, she may be annoying and only have one reaction to events but i'll still watch
Am i in the minority here? will anybody else speak up to not really caring?
Will people continue to write that they are not going to watch the next episode due to one tiny thing, then come back on this board week after week to complain?
Come on, live with it, stop complaining, it got old a few weeks ago

Once we heard the WHOOOOOSH and it flashed back to Michelle in the psych's office, I said to my girlfriend "Everyone on DVD Talk is going to LOVE this episode!".
And I was right.
I hope Vincent' D'Onofrio is a part of her next flashback.

My only real problem with Ana Lucia is that the writers have been so inconsistent with her character. Her brief appearance last year indicated she may actually be playing a softer, three dimensional character, while her appearances this year have shown the complete opposite. And now they want it both ways by trying to make her sympathetic again (in a different way altogether). But I think they have sort of blown this chance because they went too far in demonizing her the past few weeks (and further reinforcing these feelings throughout 90% of this episode).

I don't get the absolute hate for her character. She's not my favorite, but I'm no where close to wanting to break my TV and send death threats to JJ Abrams whenever she appears on screen like some people here.
Decent episode. What I got from the flashbacks is that since her being wounded in the line of duty it seems like high stress brings out the worst in her character and unfortunately for her that's all she's had since she's been on the island.

Great episode. Lots of tension and it was good to see why Ana Lucia is so trigger-happy and why now she will live with that guilt. I actually thought she might have committed suicide at the end of the episode. I know you all would've loved that.
My only gripe is that she is so typecast as a cop. I was surprised that her career WASN'T a surprise. Now, I'm wondering why she was in Australia. To me, Ana Lucia is like everyone else on the island - harboring a lot of baggage and issues. Great reunion scene at the end.
It's also interesting that Maggie Grace got a "Special Guest Star" credit for playing a dead Shannon.

I'm trying to get a handle on all of the "hate Ana" sentiment.
I think her character is supposed to ruffle the dynamic and flow of the show, as well as that of the survivors we've already come to know. She's abrasive, trigger happy, scowling, brooding, etc. But from what we've seen the tailies had a rougher time that the "fronties" - no golf games, Hurley-as-comic-relief and happy montages for them - and AL has tried to force herself as the leader. She did save the group from Goodwin, after all.
It seems natural to have resentment when writers try to introduce new characters into a popular show, because it is a challenge for viewers to immediately accept or care about them as much as the original cast. It's easier for "nice" secondary characters (Bernard, Libby) to gain a foothold than it is for potential new lead characters (AL) that go against the grain.
Personally, I don't think Eko's character would be quite so powerful were it not for the interactions with the raving polar opposite posturing of AL.
Me, I don't "like" the character of AL necessarily - she hasn't yet proven herself enough to be likeable, though I think she has the best intentions of the group's survival at heart - but I do like the potential she brings to rattle the status quo. I enjoyed her backstory, and felt it fleshed out her character quite a bit.
And I have no problems with Michele R's performance, either, for that matter. She's playing the role with the expected amount of swagger and shoot-first bravado. That's her character, as least as of now.
Just my 2 cents.

i dont mind SWAT at all. I kind of enjoy her pushy attitude and it will just add more drama to the show when she actually meets up with the other part of the island. I dont see why everyone was listening to her. Why no one would leave her to head to the other part of the island unless she said they could. Its not like she was going to shoot them. Overall good episode, hopefully sawyer will get better soon, hes a great character on the show.

You remember the littlest details around times of great pain/trauma.
3 hours before my dad died, I remembered the exact highlight on ESPN, and it was such a random highlight, I am amazed that I still remember to this day what it was.

I know WWII movies pretty well, but cannot think of many good answers for ones with a hyphenated title. D-Day maybe? Or U-571?

I was thinking it might mean something about the "ads" they ran prior to movies back then. Like buy bonds, recycle, etc.

People that think M-Rod is the worst actress on TV obviously haven't watched Mischa Barton's performances on The OC.
I like her and I'm glad they added her. She's nice eye candy and this show needed a badass bitch to create tension. And like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the tailies went through a lot more than the front did. I think this would make anyone "trigger happy" if people kept being taken from their camp.
