Buffy the Vampire Slayer: I guess that occurred either when Buffy Summers hit college or when she's dies and then is brought to life again and then limps on for a couple of more seasons until cancellation.
I'd vote that after season 5 (except for OMWF) it jumped the shark.

When most shows add a new child or a "Cousin Oliver" is when the show jumps.

Well, if you go by that, there have been no TV shows with ACTUAL shark jumping. But if you are talking about actual pretend animatronic shark jumping, then I believe that list is shaved down to two shows...Happy Days, of course, and That 70's Show, when Fez jumped the shark in honor of his favorite Happy Days episode. Maybe the episode of Arrested Development, but that fake shark wasn't even in the water.

And if this thread was limited to that, it would be short and much, much more uninteresting.

I can't decide if it was this:

Or This:

But it's one of them, that's for sure!

Identifying when a show Jumped the Shark requires that you identify a particular episode and what occurred in that episode.

Even the OP can't pick a moment from Buffy, and he starts by asking:

When Everybody Loves Raymond became Everybody Loves Raymond and Robert and that unfunny woman who only got a part because she's married to the show's creator.

Conan worked on The Simpsons from 1991-1993 IIRC. Now granted he wrote some funny episodes, but I think he gets way too much credit. There are several other writers who get left out in the cold just because they don't have a talk show.

The Simpsons - The episode where Homer & Marge have sex all over Springfield. In barns, houses, balloons and so forth. That was the apex of that show...the single funniest episode of that show i have ever seen.

Every single episode i have seen after that one has been nowhere near as funny as that one episode.

That is when I feel "The Simpsons" jumped the shark.

That is actually a very good JTS moment. I think that really did single handedly kill the show.

However, I don't think it was a stunt from the producers part. I think she did that on her own.

Do any think the term, "Jump the Shark" has actually Jumped the Shark?

Because "Jump the Shark" was originally termed as a stupid gimmick to win back viewers to a show that was already going downhill; since Fonzie was doing that infamous water ski stunt involving a shark on Happy Days to win back the mass exodus of viewers, since Happy Days was already awful and sinking fast.

I think the meaning of "Jump the Shark" may have a totally different meaning now...

Dead Like Me season two. There's no "moment", but the energy and humor of the show practically disappeared after the first season. This included Mason suddenly deciding to go sober and the lame conclusion to the story of Rube's daughter.

_______________
How dare you!!!!!!!!!!! That show kicked ass in every possible way.

Ally McBeal jumped the shark when the lead lawyer guy (it's been so long, I can't remember any names) dyed his hair blonde and starting acting all macho and crap and then Courtney Thorne Smith left and was replaced by the lesbian.

Star Trek: Voyager jumped the shark when Sulu appeared. That instantly killed all credibility and goodwill the show had.

Drew Carey jumped the shark the instant they started having musical numbers in the show. It was all downhill from there.

Head of the Class jumped the shark when the rather small Honors class seemed to be the only talent in the entire school so they were the ones in all the key roles in the musical plays they put on (Grease, Little Shop of Horrors). Puhleeze.

Buffy never jumped the shark in my opinion, but if it had, it would have been when Buffy was brought back to life in season 6.

Cancer Man you don't know what you are talking about--

The season before Fonzie jumped the shark, Happy Days was the Number One show on TV with a year-end average rating of 31.5 million viewers.

The season that Fonzie jumped the shark, Happy Days was the Number Two most popular show on TV (Laverne and Shirley took #1) with an average of 31.4 million viewers.

FYI: The next season HD was #3 show after L&S and 3's Company.

Jumping The Shark
The defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak.
It has climaxed. From that moment on, you know that it's all downhill.

Felicity as a show was still good when she cut her hair. It just happened to coincide with the network moving the show to a different night and it not capturing the same audience anymore. The actual jumping the shark moment for me was when Julie (Amy Jo Johnson) left the show and they replaced her with that British girl with her druggie boyfriend.

Also, I'll agree that Dead Like Me Season 2 wasn't a JtS moment. In fact, I was reluctant to buy season 2 on DVD because I was a bit lukewarm on season 1, but I'm glad I did as that season seemed to gel and by the time I got to the end I was furious that this great show was canceled. It never jumped the shark for me.

A few other JtS moments:
Roswell - The Great Snapple Caper. I loved Roswell up to this point but never watched an episode after this one.

The Practice - for me it was when Bobby's wife left the firm to practice her own lighter cases across the hall (or where ever her office was).
