Atia's daughter channeling Meg Ryan while doing her impersonation of her mother's 'faking it' during sex was priceless.

Marc Antony: "She's got you down exact"

Great series! I am hooked.

Same here. Sticking with it cuz it's HBO, and I expect to be a fan soon, but...not a must see for me yet.

I was thinking of getting this for my brother when it comes to DVD. He is obsessed with Roman History and everything about it. I have to ask, would this be too much for him? He's a 17 year old. Is this somethign that would be o.k. for a 17 year old to watch?

Now that was a slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am episode!

These characters just get better and better.

17? That's plenty old, IMO.

if his parents/you are alright with graphic violence and full frontal nudity for both sexes, then its alright. would probably get an R if rated for theaters.

depends on what you consider appropriate for a seventeen year old to see - by my standards, I'd expect a 15-16+ year old to be fine with anything like this. I think this show gives you a better picture of what a culture like that was like beyond the realpolitik, etc. that you'd see covered in history class or on the history channel (unless its sweeps)

Unless your parents have kept him locked in his room for the last 17 years I'd say a 17 year old should be ok with some sex and blood. Cuz hell if he's read about Rome at all this show will prolly seem tame to him.

for those who have comcast digital cable. They put up episode 3 on the ondemand feature. So you get to view it a week early.

No. And I'd wager the women didn't have bikini waxes either. I just hope they have the good sense to stay away from anyone with implants. Still, those are minor things to overlook I guess for such a great show.

As for the 17 year old, they've only just aired episode 2. I'm guessing he'll be 18 when the DVDs finally arrive.

Well they did not speak English, so the f word would never have been spoken. Roman's did have people that would pluck out their body hair, so while not a wax, they would/could have been groomed down there as they were not big on body hair on women.

That's because the series is co-produced by the BBC.

That's interesting, I had no idea. I guess that answers that question then.

How unobservant do you have to be to make love with a woman who is lactating and not notice? Add the baby crying in the background, and all I can say is

I just watched it. I loved it, much more than the pilot (which I quite liked). Overall, it's very intriguing and I'll keep watching.

I wish that Marc Anthony looked less like Paulie Shore, though.

Well it was a patriarchal society and for most men, sex was about them and love making was probably not that common. Did you notice how the wife stood behind him while he ate, women, especially Plebes did not have much in the way of rights.

Women, especially Plebes, did not have much in the way of rights, a lot of this was not the case in the Patrician society, but that is a whole other world.

Hey, I think you're right! But it's a bit of a non sequitur in this thread.

That's what I get for typing too late at night.

But seriously, isn't this what Paulie looks like after most of his stand-up appearances?

I watched this week's episode for the second time last night. Damn this show is great. I am very impressed with these first two episodes (I was rather skeptical before it premiered).

I watched this episode last night and I thought it was pretty good.

I missed the pilot and I'm hoping that the Movie Network (they show the HBO shows here in Canada) will re-air it again.
