) and the nomination committee does not seriously consider all the shows (largely ignoring entire genres), so what's the point. As Red Dog, eloquently stated, they are a fucking joke.das

Yeah, but a couple of those were very brief appearances.

Sandra Oh? Emmy voters must have been going down there list of nominees and thought "Hey I liked her in Sideways" when they saw her name. She's the worst part of Grey's Anatomy.

Isn't it a rule that a person has to appear in at least six episodes to be considered for the supporting (I won't say lead as that wouldn't make sense) category?
If he was in six exactly, it's just another example of how the West Wing is a whore to the Emmys. Glad that got their come-uppens (sp) with no nods for Sheen or Janney in Lead.

Well, he "appeared" in the opening credits as a "star" for most of the second half of the season. Still, I just don't remember him in that many eps. He had a throwaway moment early in the season to establish him and then showed up about halfway through, but the campaign eps alternated, and he wasn't even in all of those. If it really was 6, some of those had to be incredibly brief. Regardless of the actual count, though, it's pretty silly. He'd make a great Guest Star nom, but for Supporting Actor, it just makes me laugh at the whole process.

Yep.
Just to compare, William Shatner won for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series last year for his work on The Practice. He also appeared in 6 episodes. I can guarantee that his total airtime surpassed Alda's on the West Wing this year.

I wouldn't call Stockard Channing supporting, either. So as someone else noted, I think those two are the most shocking nods of the categories (even more shocking than Sandra Oh being nominated - and I think that's from the whole 'Sideways' deal - anyway). I know Channing had more screen time than Alda, but damn...
Hmm...Channing or Ambrose. I'll go Ambrose anyday of the week (especially with her work in 'Terror Starts At Home' and 'Untitled' would make her serious competition for the other four).

The West Wing? Again?
Only 2 major nominations for the F/X dramas.

Oops, guess I just assumed too much with all the noms it got.
My guess is that Hatcher will get it because like it or not, she is the name of the cast. Also, they just love to give something to somebody who would have turned into a "has been" without a new show.
Nevermind that Marcia Cross might very well have had to start doing voice-over work and local theater had she not landed her part, as she is over forty and has struggled for quite some time to get consistent work in a prominent role. I guess her time will eventually come though.

Just had a chance to read the list of nominations.
Will & Grace nominated again, why?
As Red Dog so eloquently put it, the Emmys are a fucking joke.
