I see The Office Special is up for a pair of awards...I'll be rooting for Ricky G. and the guys from England!

no credebilty
That's for certain. It only takes a quick glance at the list to dismiss its credibility. I used to pay attention to these awards, but it's so clear that the major awards are not based on the current season (remember last season's Best Drama noms ) and the nomination committee does not seriously consider all the shows (largely ignoring entire genres), so what's the point. As Red Dog, eloquently stated, they are a fucking joke.

Looked it up...Alda was in 6 of 22 episodes. I guess it's up for debate whether that's enough or not...but it's a little more than 1/4th of last season's shows.

Yeah, but a couple of those were very brief appearances.

Maybe Alda will win and thereby solve the "next president" question.

No Lauren Graham, Rescue Me, supporting casts of Deadwood or Scrubs, Scrubs finally getting nominated but they could haved saved everyone's time and just given the award to DH since everyone knows that will win.

Sandra Oh? Emmy voters must have been going down there list of nominees and thought "Hey I liked her in Sideways" when they saw her name. She's the worst part of Grey's Anatomy.

You sure it was 6?

Isn't it a rule that a person has to appear in at least six episodes to be considered for the supporting (I won't say lead as that wouldn't make sense) category?

If he was in six exactly, it's just another example of how the West Wing is a whore to the Emmys. Glad that got their come-uppens (sp) with no nods for Sheen or Janney in Lead.

Well, he "appeared" in the opening credits as a "star" for most of the second half of the season. Still, I just don't remember him in that many eps. He had a throwaway moment early in the season to establish him and then showed up about halfway through, but the campaign eps alternated, and he wasn't even in all of those. If it really was 6, some of those had to be incredibly brief. Regardless of the actual count, though, it's pretty silly. He'd make a great Guest Star nom, but for Supporting Actor, it just makes me laugh at the whole process.

I counted 6 as well

But that includes episodes like the finale where he just appears for about 5 seconds at the end of the episode.

Yep.

Just to compare, William Shatner won for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series last year for his work on The Practice. He also appeared in 6 episodes. I can guarantee that his total airtime surpassed Alda's on the West Wing this year.

To add to the whole Alda thing:

I wouldn't call Stockard Channing supporting, either. So as someone else noted, I think those two are the most shocking nods of the categories (even more shocking than Sandra Oh being nominated - and I think that's from the whole 'Sideways' deal - anyway). I know Channing had more screen time than Alda, but damn...

Hmm...Channing or Ambrose. I'll go Ambrose anyday of the week (especially with her work in 'Terror Starts At Home' and 'Untitled' would make her serious competition for the other four).

Only 2 major nominations for the F/X dramas.
Really. I didn't know that stupid West Wing was even still on.

No Shield or Rescue Me but we get The West Wing?!

I'm really disappointed that Kristen Bell didn't get a nom, she was absolutely great in a fantastic show. It's hard for me to really judge the lists though, since I don't watch all of those shows so I just root for the ones I do watch.

House, Three Stories
So glad that episode was nominated. Probably my favorite hour of TV last season.

That'd be quite a hat trick for Debra Messing, since she ain't nominated this year. I'm betting Hatcher gets it though, even if Cross is the better actress on the show.

re: House: 3 stories.

I agree 100%, that was television brilliance.

Huff by the way is hilarious.

Oops, guess I just assumed too much with all the noms it got.

My guess is that Hatcher will get it because like it or not, she is the name of the cast. Also, they just love to give something to somebody who would have turned into a "has been" without a new show.

Nevermind that Marcia Cross might very well have had to start doing voice-over work and local theater had she not landed her part, as she is over forty and has struggled for quite some time to get consistent work in a prominent role. I guess her time will eventually come though.

Carnivale didn't get any of the most coveted nominations, but it did wind up with 8 noms overall.

Just had a chance to read the list of nominations.

Will & Grace nominated again, why?

As Red Dog so eloquently put it, the Emmys are a fucking joke.
