A steady diet of buffets and booze will do that to you.

Rkndkn - thanks for responding. I can see what you're saying.

As for Ty's pathetic admonition of INXS and the voting public, it was ridiculous and predictable as others have noticed. Uh, note to Ty - Jordis is black, too. Anyway.

Jordis has lost "it." I really enjoyed her in the beginning of this, but since MWSTW, she seems lackluster.

Suzie continues to improve, but I just find her boring to listen to. And I'm with the other people who find Bo Rhap annoying. I couldn't listen to the encore. She has a nice voice with good range and good intonation, but I doubt I would buy an album with her fronting the band.

MiG would win the "Miss Congeniality" award if this were a pageant. He seems like such a genuine guy who supports everyone. He rocks out to every performance given by his fellow rockers and they all seem to like him. Unfortunately, he's not the best technical singer in the bunch.

I must admit to a perverse pleasure in watching JD implode. I originally thought he would be the one to win this, but not anymore. He gets worse each week. And, JD? Lenny Kravitz called, he'd like his glasses back.

Marty is ...awesome. I didn't think he'd be the one I would root for, but he's it. He listens to INXS, compromises but doesn't totally lose himself. I would consider buying an album with him in the lead.

This has been a fun thread to check every week. Thanks to all for all the great comments.

I am pretty sure she is "mixed". Her father is from Tonga, and her mother is white (I think). She definitely isn't "black".

I point at Q-tip and he states 'Black is Black'.

On top of that, he seems like a genuinely nice guy--someone you could work closely with and not find annoying after a while.

Marty is my favorite in this as well. i thought his song was the best this week.

Jordis lost it for a few weeks, but i thought she was great with "Imagine"

Then she lost it again for "Listen like Thieves"

Yeah screw the singers. Raphael was doing the high notes for Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm sure one of the House Band is capable of taking over lead vocals. I don't really care a whole lot about what happens with INXS after the show. I would've enjoyed this show if it were just a rock version of American Idol and they gave the winner a contract. The reason the show has been so good is because the songs are great, the band is great, and they went out and found some talented contestants. INXS doesn't have much to do with it other than on Wednesdays.

Reasons Rockstar INXS is so much better than American Idol:

They didn't limit themselves to singers of certain age groups. Except for Jordis, I think they're all too old to qualify for American Idol.

They didn't limit themselves to amateurs.

Much, much, much better songs.

Better house band.

Dave Navarro is hot.

No Ryan Seacrest.

No dragging things out forever--the results show actually has more than 3 minutes of content.

Only a limited amount of "gotcha" misdirection on how people did.

No Simon Cowell. I like him and he's amusing, but in the end, I prefer the way this show is more graceful when contestants fail.

No Paula Abdul.

The background drama about the clinics and contestants is interesting, while American Idol focuses too much on the contestants' childhoods.

No one on Rockstar INXS except for a few contestants are annoying. Everyone on American Idol is.

They didn't limit themselves to American talent.

They scoff at Disco Night.

No guest judges.

Original songs. American Idol produces puppets, this show expects its contestants to be artists.

Contestants are allowed to play musical instruments while they perform.

good list, tasha.

it is refreshing to see a show like this where there's no absurdly mean "judge".

Yes, it was mentioned earlier that the tracks are already laid down for the new CD. They're just waiting for the winner to go in and record the vocals.

Movieking, I stand corrected. I realize she is of "mixed" heritage, I guess I don't know what Tonga is. Anyone? Does anyone make the distinction?

Okay, I just googled Tonga and see that it is in the South Pacific, so I guess it is polynesian. Don't know if that is the PC term or not. Let's just say she isn't white. I found Ty's rant laughable and unfounded. Similar to Elton John chastizing the American public during American Idol two seasons ago. People like what they like. Personally, I don't care what color their skin is. I'll listen to Robert Cray or Al Jarreau or Anita Baker (my tastes are quite varied) just as easily as I listen to Annie Lennox, Eric Clapton or Sting.

The only other Tongans who have made it in popular music were the Jets, who had some hits in the 80's. Remember "You Got it All Over Him"?

AI lost me the year Simon picked Matt Rogers over Lisa Leuschner. Petty, but telling...

I was at reading stuff at the INXS site, very interesting group. Had no idea that Tim worked with Teddy Richards, Aretha Franklin's son, heard a lot about him over the years.

Recently, INXS had also been using Terence Trent D'Arby as lead vocalist for a few dates, Not implying anything, just saying... *Coughs* Ty's a loser...

Got to say, Suzie's encore was underwhelming--and I actually liked Jordis doing "Listen Like Thieves."

Jordis kept smiling while singing her INXS song, it just creeped me out.

Yeah she did put an oddly "fun" spin on that song.

You like a performance where she changed the melody and couldn't hit any of the higher notes? Interesting.

jordis smiles through all the semi-upbeat to upbeat tempo songs, regardless of the song's content. very bizarre.

I did like it, I enjoyed the last part the most when she relaxed. When you get right down to it, I don't think the new INXS lead is going to be techinically excellent, I just want some attitude. In that regard JD oddly fell a bit (I can't remember his performance) and Ty was onstage losing his mind.

As for the melody, INXS are certainly sticklers for that so they'll act accordingly for better or worse.

Here's my thoughts - at this point, I have to wonder who is really trying out for INXS or just trying out for their own gig. Ty definitely wasn't going for INXS. I have a hard time believing that Jordis is either. I'm on the fence about JD. I think he wants to be famous and fronting INXS is instant fame. I'm not sure Marty is in it for INXS either. Honestly, I think that Suzie and Mig are the only ones that would want the gig more than anything right now.

I have to say that I'm not an INXS fan, but I've watched this show since the beginning. I think I tuned in out of morbid curiousity since I can't really stomach the whole American Idol thing because of style and this seemed like a decent compromise. I've been blown away by the format and the content and I love it.

My question is, what will CBS do next? Especially since voting was up, what, 70% last week? Does that mean the public is noticing or did the Pink Floyd vote just come out and kept Marty alive? Has anyone heard of a follow up series? Rockstar: Van Halen?

I think this is exactly right, DVD Josh. I also think Jordis smiling through alot of her songs might be a nervous habit. Just a thought. I didn't think Listen Like Thieves was THAT bad. The band is definitely not thrilled with any reinterpretation. Apparently they are looking for a really good karaeoke singer. Too bad. This could have been interesting.

DRG, you are correct. I never watched WWF in the 80's. But, Jadzia, I do remember The Jets and that song in particular. I didn't know they were Tongans. Stupid me, I thought they were....well, black.
