The NEW Doctor Who Thread

I've listened to a few here and there. Probably my biggest mistake was starting with the 40th anniversary Zagreus story. The plot was totally confusing, and shoehorning in all those DW actors didn't help.
I've also heard:
The Genocide Machine
The Mutant Phase
Colditz
Primeval
Invaders from Mars
Embrace the Darkness
Overall I just found it hard to get into some of the stories. Embrace the Darkness was probably the best of the bunch. I just looked it up and found that Nick Briggs wrote and directed that too, so perhaps I will check out some of his other stories. I see he's currently putting out a Cybermen series.
I've listened to a couple of the Gallifrey series, Weapon of Choice and Square One. Even though Lalla Ward as Romana was one of my favorites from the TV series, she is virtually playing a different character in the audios. Jameson is dead on with Leela though. Still, I'm not a fan of the Gallifrian political stories, so I doubt I will finish the series.
Right now I'm starting the Excelis series and I have the first UNIT story on deck. I'm not a UNIT fan, or most of the Pertwee earth-bound era for that matter, but then I wasn't a big fan of the Daleks either and they made a very good transition to audio.

I'm still on the fence. The cheapest I've found it is for $66.95 US shipped. Still pretty expensive, but we'll see.

I think Season 2, R2 of QL has the original music, R1 does not, for the most part. Season One in both regions has original music. Season 3 R1 does not, I'm not sure about R2.
Here's a site with details of what songs were replaced.

I've heard the Gallifrey audios aren't the greatest, but I'd like to hear the one with the 2 Romanas interacting with each other.

As posted on TVShowsonDVD. I'm curious to know the exact specs and whether or not the packaging will be improved. If it's exactly the same, the price is comparable, so I'll go ahead and buy the R2 so I can have it NOW.
Doctor Who - February Release of 9th Doctor NOT Just For Canada Anymore! USA To Get It, Too!

SciFiWire has just unleashed a bombshell this morning! In mid-October, we posted news that the BBC would release the new 2005 Doctor Who series on DVD in Canada, but stated that "there aren't any plans to release the set in the US at this time, since no US broadcaster has picked up the rights to air the series." Now SciFiWire is reporting that the DVDs will come to USA in DVD on the same February 14th date! Read for yourself:
Doctor Who Hits U.S. As DVD
The BBC told SCI FI Wire that it will release the complete first season of the new British SF TV series Doctor Who on DVD in the United States on Feb. 14, 2006, offering Americans their first official look at the hit U.K. show. BBC Video will release Doctor Who: The Complete First Series with all 13 of the first-season episodes, starring Christopher Eccleston as the immortal Timelord and Billie Piper as his sidekick, Rose, as well as more than four hours of extras. The DVD set will carry a suggested retail price of $99.98.
The BBC is choosing to release the DVD set in advance of any plans to license Doctor Who for broadcast in the United States.
The latest incarnation of the venerable British SF series debuted on the BBC last May, written by Russell T. Davies (Queer as Folk), Steven Moffat (Coupling) and Mark Gatiss (League of Gentlemen).
The DVD set, virtually identical to one already available in the United Kingdom, will also feature audio commentary by cast and crew, including Davies, Piper, John Barrowman (Captain Jack), Mark Gatiss and Simon Callow; a new Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound mix on all episodes; more than five hours of "making of" interviews and behind-the-scenes footage; a BBC interview with Eccleston; and a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming holiday episode The Christmas Invasion, starring David Tennant as the new Doctor, which premieres this month in the United Kingdom.
Wow, this is GREAT news! Our thanks to reader Kiran Wagle for the heads-up about this info. Stay tuned, and we will bring you cover art and the official studio announcement just as soon as we can!

Will the US version have the tardis box?

It's a shame about the pricing. With the high price tag and no broadcasting in the US I doubt sales will do very well.

My boyfriend got the region 2 box set at Forbidden Planet today for $50. Apparently their distributor charged them a completely wrong price, so they're selling them for cheap.

Damn! I was in NY a few weeks ago. Why doesn't this ever happen when I'm actually out there?
