I thought all the dinner scenes in "Boom Town" were awesome.

Just watched 'Boom Town' and I thought it was average compared to the others, I suppose we can't have amazing episodes all the time!

I've definitely been impressed with this new version, I think Ecclestone makes a great doctor and it'll be a shame to see him go (And Billie now by the looks of it...)

I liked the way "Boom Town" tied in with several past episodes, but overall the episode was "Meh."

The Doctor made a comment in this episode that the words "Bad Wolf" where following him around. What other references to those words have there been? The only one I can recall is that some kid writes that phrase on the side of the TARDIS.

Was thinking the same thing last night (Thought I'd even forgot about the one on the tardis, shame I've deleted the eps off my SKY+ else I'd go back and watch them again to see if I could spot any others.

Possibly a story for one of the last two episodes??

Damn, I just typed a long response to the Bad Wolf stuff and the forum logged me out while I posted, and lost the whole thing. So here I go again. Anyway, just got back from a short holiday in the UK and Paris, so there's plenty to discuss for my favorite TV show. But first, time to get right in with the Bad Wolf references.

Bad Wolf is a hotly discussed subject among the fans at gallifreyone. As most of you know by now, it's the title of the first part of the 2-part season finale. The words "Bad Wolf" are actually alluded to, or mentioned in each of the episodes so far (some obvious, some not so obvious). According to the episode guide, this is what we have so far (cut and pasted word-for-word but I didn't include the non-TV references). I think some appear to be genuine references to "Bad Wolf" while some are a bit far-fetched.

Episode 1 - Rose: Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf: In a trend leading up to the finale, each episode of the series contains references to the "Bad Wolf". In this episode, Rose is wearing a red hood and the Nestene Consciousness is purported to scream the words "bad wolf" when it sees the TARDIS

Episode 2 - The End of the World: In this episode, The Moxx of Balhoon, when speaking to the Face of Boe, twice mentions, "Indubitably, this is the Bad Wolf scenario." The Doctor also gives Jabe the gift of "air from his lungs" (like huffing and puffing a house of sticks).

Episode 3 - The Unquiet Dead: In this episode, while reading Rose's mind, Gwyneth remarks cryptically that Rose has seen "the big bad wolf."

Episodes 4 & 5: Continuity Notes:
In Aliens of London, The phrase "BAD WOLF" is painted on the side of the TARDIS by a young man. A sign held by an individual in the crowd desiring to see the alien read "BAD WOLF IS COMING." The false alien is a little pig.
In World War Three, the AMNN news reporter is named "Mal Loup," French for "bad wolf."

Episode 6 - Dalek: In this episode, Henry van Statten’s helicopter bears the callsign Bad Wolf One.

Episode 7 - The Long Game: In this episode, one of the news channels Cathica shows the Doctor is "Bad Wolf TV." It is purported that the white noise information sent by Adam to a phone in the twenty first century is Morse code for "bad wolf, bad wolf."

Episode 8 - Father's Day: In this episode, the graffiti phrase “Bad Wolf” is visible on a rave poster near the Doctor and Rose as they watch themselves at the start of the episode.

Episodes 9 & 10: Here, Nancy comments on the size of the Doctor’s ears and nose (a la the “what a big nose you have... and what big ears you have...” of Little Red Riding Hood). Captain Jack says the Doctor looks “like a U-boat captain.” Fleets of U-boats during this time period were commonly nick-named “wolf packs.”

Well, with the phrase popping up in different places, different times, and mentioned by different people, I hope there's a good, rational explanation for it all. My guess: it appears that the Doctor might be "Bad Wolf" But why is it scattered around in all the episodes? (I'm not even going to try to rationalize that one!)

Overall, I thought Boom Town was ok. Liked the slower pacing and characterizations, and it should fit well as a short interlude between the last story, and the season finale. Mickey was great, but Jack was utterly useless as a techgeek. Where did the suave 51st century conman go?

The episode played much better than the preview suggested last week. I thought the reality TV stuff would be very cheesy, and it kind of was, but there was enough stuff going on that I didn't mind. Overall, I really liked it. Unfortunately this was the second episode in a row based on one of the previous episodes that I missed. For my sake I liked appreciated the "previously" intro, but I think for those who have seen the entire season, the episode would have worked better without it.

I skipped the preview for next weeks ep since I found them to be too revealing in the past 2-parter. It was kind of silly to have "The Empty Child" end on a cliffhanger with several characters and then 30 seconds later the preview shows all of them safe and sound.

Big spoiler for this episode:
Spoiler:
They really played the "death" of Rose very well. Introducing the Lynda character really made me think it was possible they were killing Rose off. The only problem was it was announced that Billie Piper was going to be back next season, so I was never completely sold.

Just finished watching Bad Wolf. It started off kind of slow, but by the end it had become very exciting. It would have actually worked well as a season finale. I have to say the end of the episode was great and I cannot wait for the season finale next week.

After the previews I was thinking this ep wasn't going to be that good. Thankfully I was wrong! The whole reality TV thing was done well I feel, think it was having a go at the current state of our TV.

Really wish I hadn't seen the preview now as it spoiled the surprise about who was doing the 'controlling'. Should be a good episode next week though.
They are showing a different preview each day here in the UK. Think I'll give these a miss in case it gives too much away. Agree with you about the empty child wmansir.

wmansir -
Spoiler:
The latest I'd heard was that Billie is actually leaving, rumours came out after the announcement that she was staying, seems she's changed her mind - Billie rumours...

OK - a bit more info about the above. I've just read this months SFX magazine over here in the UK, they had an interview with Russell T Davies, and...
Spoiler:
Billie is in the next series (season) 2 - due to start filming in July. Though it does not says for how many episodes - which is where the original rumours started - many sources say she could be in as little as 3!
Also he confirmed that: The new Doctor (David Tennant) WILL be appearing in the Christmas special episode, so a transformation from Ecclestone to Tennant looks likely...

From the Official Website:

AVOID THE INTERNET!

Remain Pure - give it up for a week

This Saturday sees the biggest episode of Doctor Who ever, full of jaw-dropping surprises, amazing revelations and more Daleks than even you can imagine.

Up until now the episode's been kept an absolute secret - there were fake scripts, fake scenes were shot, and no preview tapes have been issued. It's such a secret that not even bbc.co.uk's Fear Forecasters have been allowed to see it.

But all that will change this week - publicity pictures will appear tomorrow, and there's a screening for the press on Wednesday, so stuff will leak out. Our best advice to you - STAY OFF THE INTERNET THIS WEEK!

Especially as bbc.co.uk is running a video teaser every day at noon. It's also shown on BBC One through the day, and at 8pm every night - so step firmly away from the television at those times.

You'll also be missing out on changes to our spin-off sites such as www.badwolf.org.uk, and one or two special treats on bbc.co.uk. Avoid them - they're only there to lead you into temptation.

So - we'll see you on Saturday evening after the last episode of Doctor Who Confidential (which contains a few surprises of its own).

We'll miss you, but it's for your own good.

I'm quivering in my boots! This season has been a fantastic return for the show.

Andrew

Just got around to seeing "Bad Wolf" and pretty much agree with all the superlatives for that episode. What more can I say? It was just fantastic in every respect. I deliberately avoided the next week preview though as I didn't want anything to spoil the last episode of the season.

And there's even better breaking news (from the official BBC site as well as gallifreyone): Season 3 is confirmed!. Billie Piper will also stay for the entire second season, and we'll be seeing more of "Captain Jack" as well.

For all the long-term fans, who would have thought a couple of years ago that we'd be hearing news such as this?!?!?! Absolutely fantastic!

I'm hoping to watch Bad Wolf tonight or tomorrow night depending on the download speed (!!GRRRR!!).

More on Season Three AND a couple of Christmas Specials:

Breaking News: Series Three and More - Updated Twice!
June 15, 2005
At tonight's BAFTA screening of "The Parting of the Ways," the final episode of this first series of "Doctor Who," producer Russell T Davies and BBC executive Jane Tranter announced that a third series of the show has now been commissioned, including a second Christmas special. They also noted that Billie Piper (Rose) would be in all the episodes of the second series, although whether she would return for the third was apparently still being discussed, and that John Barrowman (Captain Jack) will be returning to the series next year but will not appear in the first block of episodes. (Says our correspondent, Barrowman was also in the audience at the screening, and when Davies announced his return, he yelled out, "And I'm willing to get naked again, too!")

Also mentioned at the BAFTA screening was a title for this year's Christmas special: The Christmas Invasion. That, and the season two block of thirteen episodes, will go into production in July. More details as we get them.

Update 15 June 2230 GMT: CBBC News has confirmed the story. Says the report, "Just days before the current run of the sci-fi show is due to end, its makers have revealed that there are at least two more series to come. ... In addition to two more series, there will also be Christmas specials for 2005 and 2006, the show's makers said. That means Dr Who fans have a total of 28 more episodes to look forward to when the current series ends. Billie Piper will continue playing Rose until at least the end of series two. ... The show's main writer, Russell T Davies, said: 'What was most pleasing is that people have been watching this series as a family. I think a children's show should have a full range of emotions including grief and comedy.' A few hints have also been dropped as what viewers can expect from the new episodes: The new doctor will have a new outfit, we'll be seeing more of Rose's boyfriend and her mum, and scary aliens called the Cybermen will be making a return."

Update 16 June 0220 GMT: Several other items reported from the BAFTA screening: apparently transmission of series two will take place "early" in 2006 (like this year) and Russell T Davies will pen the one script that hadn't been assigned to a writer (at least not publicly). Also, word has it that there will be more episodes of Doctor Who Confidential, but we have yet to confirm this...

Glad we get two more seasons. Now if they would just televise it in the US so everyone else can see it.
Glad Rose and Jack will be back.
I am kinda hoping they might locate an old companion or two on Earth. How about Sarah Jane?

Just wanted to warn those who can't resist reading spoilers...

"AVOID THE INTERNET" (see above) is right! There's stuff in the finale you really, really want to be surprised by.

And don't go over to AICN -- they now have a finale mega-spoiler in inviso-text -- one that I really wish I didn't read...

Based on the previews, I wasn't sold on the whole "reality TV" plot in this episode, but it was handled pretty well.

Interesting tidbit from The Great Link...

Excerpts from John Barrowman’s interview in the Starburst Magazine Issue #325, are online at the Starburst Magazine web site, here’s a few snippets from the full article:

"Jack fancies both Rose and the Doctor, It’s never actually said in any of the dialogue, but it’s done through innuendo and the way it’s played." "It’s the first time that anything like that has been done in Doctor Who, but you know what? It’s the 21st Century! Some people are saying, ‘How are the kids going to deal with that?’ Kids are smarter than we make them out to be. If they want to be aware of it they will figure it out. If they don’t they will just look past it."

"....Afterward [I was cast, Executive Producer Russell T. Davies] and I met and we all talked, and he said, ‘We haven’t written some of the stuff, but what would you like us to do?’ I said, ‘You have carte blanche – you can do anything you want. I’m not afraid to do stuff.’ So the character was basically written around me, which was amazing."

Thanks for the warning, Adam. I've been sitting on my hands all week trying to avoid any and all spoilers. It's been tough. And I probably won't get a chance to watch the last episode until next Wednesday (!!!). I'm gonna avoid the Gally site until next weekend.

I can't wait!

was in the Sun newspaper here today that they are in talks with one of the old sidekicks with a view to getting them in the next series. I'm almost sure it was Sarah Jane. (Paper has been thrown now so can't check).
Oh - and K9 is making a return!

Off to watch the final episode right now...

FYI - The Regeneration is up on the BBC Video Player

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/video/index.shtml

It's not listed on the site but when you click on the Video Player link, after the Player opens, THE REGENERATION is at the top of the links right above the trailers. It plays the 2 minutes of the Regeneration scene.

I downloaded it but didn't watch it. Not sure if there are any real spoilers in it. I'm waiting to watch the final episode later in the week. Just an FYI.

Just finished the finale. I was pretty disappointed.

Spoiler:
The resolution was quite literally Deus Ex Machina, "God from the machine."

Also, I thought Eccleston was a bit young for the doctor, but this new guy is almost a decade younger.

Regarding the the post above about Jack's bisexuality. The innuendo is about as subtle as a brick to the face. If your kid doesn't pick up on it I would seriously consider a trip to a pediatric neurologist.
