i live in england so this has been around for years and people still talked about the old episodes (which i didnt like). the new episodes however are ,dare i say it ,better than most modern cult shows like buffy the vampire slayer.
even before you've seen the show everyone in england recognises a dalek even if they dont know its name.and that episode was pretty damn cool.
the latest episode wich aired on bbc1 about a week ago has supposudly had it band in certain places (according to AOL news) for being to scary and for those who havent seen that episode yet i suggest you do its the best i've seen yet for just the sheer scale of it.
personally i dont think the dalek destroyed himself ,i think it was more likely he teleported himself to ''find the place he belongs''Tm maybe (and remember the old episdoes were before my time) because he absorbed human dna he turns into davros and starts the darleks existence because hes lonely or something?
meh.just a lame theory.

The Empty Child

Wow! These episodes are getting better and better. The Empty Child was creepy with a capital C! Really well written, perfectly paced and great atmosphere! Fantastic! I can't wait for this weekend's conclusion.

Father's Day was also well written and extremely touching. The story itself was predictable but handled very well. It managed to surprise me at some points.

All in all, the show is really hitting it's stride!

My Rankings (thus far):

1) Dalek
2) The Empty Child
3) The End of the World (just because it's a fun episode!)
4) Father's Day
5) The Unquiet Dead
6) The Long Game
7) Aliens of London
8) Rose
9) World War Three (Guh!)

Empty Child rocked. Yes, it was well written, it was perfectly paced and it was very creepy. I was shocked that it was a two parter!

THE search is on for a fiery beauty to replace Billie Piper as Dr Who's assistant.

Auditions began last week and TV bosses are keen to sign a dark-haired girl with a posh accent.

Billie, 22, has revealed she wants to bow out as Rose Tyler during the second run. She is likely to appear in just a handful of next year's 13 instalments.

Her decision comes after Christopher Eccleston said he was quitting as the Time Lord after just one series.

Billie's replacement will appear alongside Casanova star David Tennant, who has clinched a £450,000 deal to succeed Eccleston.

An insider said: "They're looking for a brunette who is sophisticated but feisty. Most of all she must ooze sex appeal and have good legs - because they plan to put her in short skirts."

I just finished watching "The Doctor Dances" and I really enjoyed it. There were some tense moments, some humor, and a good conclusion to the story started in the previous episode. One significant result of the episode is that
Spoiler:
Captain Jack is now a companion/along for the ride

Since everyone else is doing it, my ranking so far:
1. Dalek
2. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
3. Father's Day
4. The Long Game

A very good episode. The story conclusion was satisfying and it contained a good bit of verbal sparring between Rose and the Doctor. I do wish they had held off on the reveal of Captain Jack until the second half, but I guess it worked well in building up the suspense of the cliffhanger.

I also thought the special effect work with Jack's gun was perticularly clever.
Spoiler:
I'm referring to the 'digital reverse' effect.
It was easily something they could have done back in the '60s. It didn't look shoddy, but it's cheap but effective quality reminded me of the old show.

I wonder if there's something else going on that the two stars would leave like this.

Maybe a mean director? producer? something?

I'm liking this since the plot and stories are pretty good
but frankly, the special effects suck quite a bit

That was what made the original so good...a bit campy with a low budget. Think they keep the effects cheesy for that reason? I mean you bring in the FOX movie (with good effects), and that wasn't very cheesy, and also not very great or fun.

I'll be downloading "The Doctor Dances" tonight. Can't wait to see it.

In the meantime, I've been downloading some of the Big Finish audios via BT recently. The only one I've heard so far was surprisingly good! I love the new series, but it's nice to hear some "new" old-school Doctor Who. I also finally bought the Key to Time set. Mary Tamm =

Dr Who Confidential says he's a "time agent from the 51st century". Given the fact the Time War wiped out all the other Time Lords besides the Doctor, I would say the answer should be "no".

Ooooh, maybe he's the Master in a new body? Not likely, I know. But, could be kinda cool to have him as a companion trying to undermine the Doctor.

Looks like Rose is sticking around.

Billie Piper will stay as Doctor Who's assistant Rose Tyler for the second series of the new show, it's reported.

She had been tipped to leave series two after only a couple of episodes, but according to a Sunday newspaper she is staying for the whole series.
That's good news for BBC bosses, as Christopher Ecclestone who plays the Doctor won't be back next year.

David Tennant is replacing him as the man with sonic screwdriver, and Billie staying may make the change easier.

Enjoyed The Doctor Dances. Top Notch and Great ending.
Looks like Jack
Spoiler:
will be around for the rest of the season.

Presumably they'll have the Master at some point. I bet they can get Eric Roberts again on the cheap.

So does that mean that Billie will be around for all of season 2 or for the duration of the new series?

I just finished the latest episode, Boom Town. I would give it 5/10 rating. It was good in parts, but overall disappointing. A very slow episode, it didn't have much of a Doctor Who feel. I missed seeing the "previously on" episode when it first aired, but I don't think having done so would have improved my opinion of this weeks episode.

Favorite line:
Spoiler:
talking about a series of odd deaths

Reporter: ...and then just recently, Mr Cleever, the goverment's nuclear advisor?
Mayor: Slipped on an icy patch.
Reporter: He was decapitated.
Mayor: It was a very icy patch.

Regarding the preview for next weeks episode:
Spoiler:
I missed the previous Dalek episode also. Tonights episode hinted at a seasonal arc coming into play (the bad wolf comments) and if so I hope the Daleks some how play into it, otherwise it seems a bit desperate to be tapping them twice so soon into the new show.

I just finished watching Boom Town. IMHO, it wasn't one of the one of the better episodes. A bit of humor and some nice character moments kept it from being lower in my ranking.

Next week's episode looks to be very interesting. (Big spoilers for anyone who avoids commercials about forthcoming episodes)
Spoiler:
It apparenlty features: a futuristic real world type reality show, The Weakest Link hosted by a robot, and a HUGE Dalek fleet.

My ranking so far:
1. Dalek
2. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
3. Father's Day
4. Boom Town
5. The Long Game
