Glenn Close joined the cast for season 4 and Training Day saw public eyes after The Shield. The Shield is the prototype, original, and new standard. Word.

For some reason my thread about this has vanished, but episodes 1 and 2 of season4 are already available online if you know where to look.

I'm pretty much a newbie to this show, but I'm looking forward to the new season. I rented season one last week and LOVED it. Great all around.

I probably won't watch seasons 2 and 3 anytime soon, though. I haven't checked Blockbuster, but Hollywood Video charges full price for the fourth DVD of each set (with only one episode). Just on principle alone, I refuse to pay that. I had $.99 coupons to burn on the first season, so I didn't mind then. HV combines the 6th and 7th discs of "24" and I figured they'd do the same with "The Shield" - guess not. So anyway, I'm on the reserve list at the library for the 2nd season, which means that I'll have to wait a while.

Which leads me to my question: based on the previous seasons, would it be essential for me to get totally caught up prior to the start of the 4th season?

not really feel free to jump right in. I saw the first ep of S4 and it has changed a lot, almost like a whole new show.

In TRAINING DAY and THE SHIELD the cops will kill even their own.
And do take money from bad guys and they do some good.
And it's based in the black & mexican urban area.

Probably not essential but you will be miss out on a lot. In the first episode of season 4 there's a few scenes that proably won't carry the same amount of weight for someone just jumping into the show.

I just finished watching the first two eps. of season 4 and they are great. I was concerned about Glenn Close joining the cast, but she works out quite well. For me season 3 was the year of pain, with everything that happened. It wasn't as good as season 1 and 2. Season 4's back in full force.

true true. Season 3 had bad pacing. It seemed like they solved cases in a day. Later on, characters would talk about it that it took them a week or two to solve it. Last 3 episodes were great. Since I don't have cable, I have to wait another year to watch season 4 on dvd. Yessss.

Shield S.4

Just watched the first episode of Season 4 last night; Episode 2 is on tap for tonight. Does anyone know how/why these actually were released on the internet before the TV season premiere? It's weird!

Anyway, love the show - it's my fave on TV. Season 4 completely holds up to the previous seasons - Glenn Close is great and Aceveda is devilish as ever!

a DVD Screener containing the first 2 episode were sent out to critics for review purposes. Looks like one of them found its way into someone with a divx encoder and an internet connection

I know....

My fellow Shield maniacs...I have seen the promised land...and it is good. Lucky for me, I received a copy on VHS and DVD, the first 3 episodes of the much-anticipated SEASON 4!!!! Yes, and for those of you psyched beyond all reason, you will not be disappointed. For those worried about Glenn Close, don't be! You will love it. I won't spoil anything for you, but let's just say this: Vic Mackey has created a monster, and now, he wants to tame it.

you and everyone with internet access. The real kicker is that anyone who watches the episodes leaked will have to simply wait another 2-3 weeks before seeing a fresh episode. Seems like more torture than just waiting for the season to start.

In saying that, I love how vic is playing the good cop this season.

Did FX squeeze in all the reruns from season 3? A coworker said they reran 2 episodes on Sunday, but from her description, neither was the season finale.
