There is a drunk driving commerical that airs in Ireland whenver I go. It was just on this New YEars when I was there. I think it is infamous and now a tradition in the way we have the 'I learned it by watching you' pot commerical. This is a bit more disturbing. Basically they show a kid playing in the yard while intercutting with images of this young guy partying and drinking. They cut back in forth to the kid and the adult drinking. Next think you know the car crashes lands on the kid killing him and then the father comes out screaming holding his dead kid while the driver stumbles bloody out of the car dazed and the commerical fades to black with the "Don't drive drunk admonition. Graphic and creppy.

Commercials-Hmm. Trying to think....Oh yeah, I remember the commercial ads for Select-TV which showed an image of Creepshow where that skeleton ghoul is looking through a window at you. They only showed this for a split second but GOD DAMN did it freak me out!
Not particulary scary, but more of a "holy crap!" reaction I gave was when I first saw the commercial for Six Flags' new ride, "Shockwave". It looks like an advertisement for a regular rollercoaster, but at the end, the narrator says, "If you think you can take it...Stand up" And lo and behold, there were no seats on the coaster!
I see that a couple other guys here have a puppet phobia. Include me. Was anyone else scared to death of Madame's Place? Which had the most frightening looking puppet I've ever seen. The promos for the show (And it's spinoffs with the character) creeped the hell out of me.

ANother one of my "when-I-was-younger" things. When A KID IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT came out, it was paired with a new Mickey Mouse short called RUNAWAY BRAIN. The promo for it scared me when they got to the part about RUNAWAY BRAIN, mainly because of Mickey acting like a savage beast (then again, I was scared of everything back then. I was even scared of the Gracie Films logos for THE SIMPSONS. Especially during their Halloween specials, and you can figure out why). I conquered my fear (quite unintentionally) when my dad and I, a couple years later, went to see a double feature of GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE and HERCULES. Lo and behold, RUNAWAY BRAIN was included between them. I was less scared of it after seeing it.

I could see how that could be scary...

Is that the thing where they're in the movie theatre and someone goes, "Shh"?

The original 1978 TV ad for Carpenter's Halloween used to scare the shit outta me. It showed him walking through the house with a brief glimpse of P.J. Soles dead on the bed with the Myers tombstone. I was merely 7 years old and it had quite the effect on me.

Also not a commercial, but the opening for "The NBC Mystery Movie" always creeped me out as a little kid. Especially combining the music with the image of that blood red sky, black clouds, and that creepy dark figure walking through the shadows towards the camera swinging a flashlight back and forth.

Current Sizzler Commercial
Am I cracking up?
A recent Sizzler commercial (west coast only?) featured a "I LOVE Shrimp" dream sequence complete with the obligatory two lovers running toward each other on a beach. Of course one of the lovers is a guy dressed up in a shrimp costume.
I swear the first time I saw this commercial the "shrimp's" tail protruded in front of him---looking like a .... well you know.... er... let's say he was very pleased to see his friend.
In a new version of the commercial the tail now curves up behind him. Was this done to avoid a strike from the religious right because of the overtly gay tone of this commercial?

My dad was telling me about a recent country music video that was revised because one of the singers was busted with marijuana(sp?), so the video now shows less of the singer.
My point with that off topic story was that things are revised for some reason or another.
