The New Screensavers sucks

We'll always have the memories. So unfair though, so unfair.
We all knew from the begining that the channel was only bought for its ability to reach people, and not for its content.
fleegs, I don't know hwo to get your link working...
But I found this, which links to some interesting stuff, and This.

It's a shame that TechTV is not around anymore. I only discovered it in the last few months, just before some of the changes went down. It was great then; horrible now.

Reading Geoff's announcment was interesting.

Unfortunately they also pushed this DVDoe's/DVDon'ts thing and pushed our writer to be more critical on air about the DVDs. Apparently this was a precursor for them as they are completely reformatting the show and changing the name to 'Attack of the Show'.
Instead of good DVD reviews and info, they want to push the segment more into a hip and irreverent slam of DVDs. As you know that ISN'T what were about here at DVD Talk. Our WHOLE point is to sift through the piles and piles of DVDs that come in and help find the ones which are most worth checking out, not just stand around trying to be cool and slam on DVDs.
So we've decided to no longer continue our segment on TechTV/The Screen Savers. We don't feel the direction which they are going in matches the vision of DVD Talk and we don't feel that there's any value in a segment which is built around slamming DVDs.
We will continue to do our monthly DVD segment in our H.Q. city of Portland, OR and rebroadcast that on the web at DVDTalk.TV. Also last month we launched our online radio show at DVDTalkRadio.com and will continue to work to expand that.
Best Regards

I am actually liking Screensavers now. I think the chemistry that the two Kevins and Sarah have is pretty good. And it seems like it is trying to balance the tech stuff with some cool entertainment/tech stuff like the Jim Henson segment on today. Hopefully they keep it the way it is now

i still think this show is okay, they just need to do more of their original segments and not those stupid fillers like SunDance, Tatoo tee-shirts or that annoying dude's Superbowl predictions...they usually suck and have no point. I do love DVDuesday, however
(probably cuz Sarah and the other chick are hot...)
EDIT: Oh, by the way, that Jim Henson segment was one of my favorites ever on these "new" shows...oh, and about the chemistry, although Kevin P tries waaaaay too hard to be a "funny, nerdy fella", he does have his moments. And Kevin Rose seems to have blended in better. For the past few months, it seems he had been on the outskirts looking in, until recently. That thing with the "unbreakable" phone getting smashes by a simple throw was hilarity at its best...

I look foward to them losing "TSS" as the name, since the show is so different from what we old-timers remember "TSS" to be.
Still, I'll likely watch from time to time. Not much else on.
also... They really cut back on Chi-Lan's airtime lately. She went from basically being a host, to hardly being on the show.

thats a good thing. Chi-Lan wasn't really great on camera (she had like 20 fuck ups an episode) and she didnt have good chemistry at all with the rest of the cast. Her segments blew too...
If you look closely, you can see that the end of her latest segment, the one with the "unbreakable phones", was pre-recorded, so incase she fucked up they could cut it out. She's still cool and all, but making her a host of the show was a bad move...

Per Geoff's announcement, DVDTalk won't be doing Tuesday DVD reviews any more. While I certainly agree with his point and understand his choice, I'm going to miss the weekly review segment. It was pretty obvious that TSS was slowly trying to shape the segment into something it wasn't meant to be though.
I think Kim was just trying to be polite by not complaining about the stupid "DVDuesday" title.

It was hilarious when Sarah would make some stupid annoucement about DVDuesday (like "What happens when DVDs and Tuesday settle down ands have kids?") and then they would cut away to Kim's expression. That always made me laugh

I've been loving TSS. Immy keeps getting better. I love how even though Immy is so different from Kevin and Sara they all work well together. Their chemistry is a little awkward, but I love it. I like the other guy they have on there too. Good riddance to Chi Lan; she was horrible.
I'll miss DVDTalk being on there. I actually liked the title, DVDuesday. It's dumb, but it gave them something to play off of. I swear, some of you posting here must not like to have any fun in the TV shows you watch.

nny, i don't think anyone doesn't want to have fun, but when you take a show about cool technology and such and start running segments like "Brendan at Sundance!" and "Japanese Toy Fair!" just to appeal (e.i. sell out) to larger audiences, and still try even though you're only losing viewers, it is beyond "fun". Then its just irritating.
Average Episode of TSS:
Sarah: And in other news, Microsoft made a huge announcement about Windows--
Kevin P: "It Came From Ebay" is better! Nyah!
Kevin R: Heh...
Sarah: No, "Gems of the Internet" rox your sox!
Kevin R: But, what about the Micro--
Kevin P: C'mon! Let's play Half-Life 2!
Chi-Lan: A-And in other news....uh....I can't see the que card....higher....more to the left...Ah, in other news...

Who's Immy ? I gave up on the show a couple of weeks after the changeover.

I thought the DVD segments were really lame. No fault of the woman from this site, I just found the show wouldn't let her go as in depth as a reviewer from this site could. It all fealt like fluff to me especially with the host guiding the review. The segment would have worked so much better back in the glory days as the show embraced it's nerdiness so much more.
The new format is better than the old-new format, but that isn't saying much.

I will admit I am disappointed by how little depth some of their features have, but the old TSS was so boring, I could never watch it. Maybe I just wasn't that interested in the subjects they covered. The new TSS spends a little more time on things I'm interested in and manages to make stuff I don't care about entertaining. I haven't missed an episode since Kevin P. came on and I'm not sure I ever made it through a whole episode before.

Well that was dumb--no more Kim?
You've got an actually smart, pretty chick on TV and then she's gone. I think Screen Savers, like most TV, has no idea what they want. And I agree they didn't allow her to do her thing--I used to listen to Kim's radio show and that woman would go off--sometimes to the point where I could not believe some of the stuff she was discussing in depth or making fun of. I'm a little shocked DVD Talk had a part in taking her off however. Why wouldn't they want someone irreverant (and Kim Morgan is--you should have heard her show making fun of The Vagina Monolouges--one of the funniest things I've ever heard). TV is so square.

I am glad DVDTalk has parted ways with G4. I had noticed more and more that Sarah kept pushing Kim to bash certain DVDs, which made Kim look uncomfortable. Sarah never had anything postive to say about any movies and just wanted to get a cheap joke in at the expense of the movies they were reviewing. To Heck with G4!

Average DVDuesday Segment:
Kim: So, all and all the movie is excellent and the features...
Sarah: They're all bad....right?
Kim: No some of them...
Sarah: Dammit! I hate DVD Studios! I am teh rebel 49, bitch!!!!!
Kim: *Disgusted look on face*

I just think it's stupid that they are not using Kim Morgan on TV--a refreshing, cool woman on TV is so rare. Lets see, they'll get some ugly guy or some Mary Hart clone. Or worse, a supposedly "hip" person. Ick. Does anyone read Kim Morgan's blog? Or her LA Weekly and Salon pieces? She's top notch. Actually, she's better than TV.
So right, to heck with G4.
