Lost 11/10/04

Episode Title: "Confidence Man"

Spoiler:
When Shannon suffers an asthma attack, Jack and Sayid realize brutality might be the only way to convince Sawyer to relinquish the life-saving medicine he's hoarding. Meanwhile, Sun struggles to decide if she'll obey husband Jin's orders to stay out of others' affairs, and Kate uncovers some shocking secrets about Sawyer.

Umm....granting wishes...T-Rex...Penny Arcade...

Anyway, I'm anxious to see this episode. I've noticed that they haven't really done much with whatever it is that's in the jungle...hoping that at least gets a mention. I wonder if they'll even resolve that this season?

I'm guessing this is going to feature Sawyer's back story. I wonder if they'll try to make him more sympathetic. He can't get much less sympathetic.

I always DVR this show and then don't get to it for a few days. So then I never get in on the discussion here about it because by that time the thread is ten pages long.

So can someone give me a consenses of what the general feeling is in here regarding this show?
I don't mean the plot, I've seen all the episodes.
What does most everybody seem to feel is going on here?

Are all the people on the island supposed to be
Spoiler:
actually dead?

Is the show supposed to wrapped up and all aspects totally revealed and explained at the end of the season?

We've come to a consensus on the following points:

* The castaways are actually on a peninsula.

* The peninsula grants all your wishes. For example, the T-Rex wished for food, and got a whole planeload of tasty humans.

* The monster is a giant mechanical T-Rex/Polar Bear hybrid controlled by Zombie Dad.

* Kate is HAWT.

Kate is ok, but I like both the obnoxious young blond and the blond preggo better.

Regarding the subject of this episode:
Spoiler:

Sawyer hoarding everything and refusing to share when a life is at stake

I hope they explain his rationale in this episode. Because this guy is a major league asshole, and if this shit actually happened when I was stranded on an island with little to no chance for rescue, I'm bashing the fucker's head in.

I am doubting they will resolve the "thing in the jungle" in this first season.I can see them using it as a cliffhanger to end the season where you are about to find out what it is but then get to wait until next year...

I just remember Sawyer crying while reading a letter during the first letter. Then he turned into the biggest jerk in the world. Hopefully, they'll turn him this episode.

We're going to have to add the dead people thing to this list somehow. Other than just Zombie Dad.

Well if you missed one thing in the threads it is that THERE IS NO SCI-FI. Everything is real and could occur in nature according to several interviews with the creators/writers/producers. The show will most likely NOT wrap up (until it is cancelled - then the survivors may escape) at the end of the 24 episode season. The articles written prior to the show airing said that it is expected to go on indefinitely, unfolding and unfolding. This is not a one-season miniseries thing like Kingdom Hospital was supposedly going to be. I would expect some resolutions will occur when characters inevitably die (at least one major character will die this season IMO).

If you're into the show, you should read the threads. They really aren't that long and some very interesting points and theories come up that enhance how you can look at the show.

I think these threads and all the "KIDDING" posts are screwing up people new to the show or new to this show's threads.

I mean it was funny the first few weeks, now it is impossible to tell if someone has a legitimate confusion about what's going on (see the LOST thread in DVD Talk Forum!?!?!). This is the most frustrating thread to sort through on the site, only because there is usually so much crap to go through before the meat of each episode is discussed.

Didn't something happen to Sayid last week? I assume we find out what happened.

Groucho, you forgot the Penny Arcade comic strip that people always refers to.

Anyways, I'll be watching this show tonight.

I figured out the secret of "Lost!"

Spoiler:

WARNING TO DVR OWNERS:

Lost is listed with a 62 minute run-time tonight. Don't know if this was in the program guides in the last download, but you better double-check if you did some manual adjustments (anticipating a 61 minute run time).

http://www.lost-tv.com/ has a neat little spoiler from the writer of tonight's show(not a joke, don't look if you really don't wanna know)-

Spoiler:
...co-creator, executive producer, and writer Damon Lindelof has this teaser to share about tonight's episode (which Damon penned): All I'll say is that Confidence Man sports the first kiss ever on LOST -- and boy, it does NOT disappoint.

From above I wonder if
Spoiler:
it is safe to assume from seeing the previews that this kiss will be between Kate and Sawyer but that seems too easy to fall into thinking that way...so who else might the kiss be between? I can't believe this show has me wondering about who kisses who!

Pretty quick it'll be a 40 minute show in a 90 minute timeslot.

when Lost went to 61 minutes, Tivo notified us.

I'll check to see if I have a notification for today as well...

I pad by a minute anyway, but at least Tivo is recognizing the time change.
