The funny thing is, the screwup itself really wasn't her fault. It just revealed her to be a liar about not lip synching. Then she compounded the problem by lying about it being the band's fault.

The technician who replayed the first song by mistake will probably have to find a new line of work...

"What size do you wear, sir?"

"Uh...seven and a quarter."

"I think we have that..."

Everyone lip sync's on live TV. I've caught a bunch of people doing it on SNL. What's the big deal? As long as it's not a Milli Vanilli (sp?) situation where the recorded voice is a different person, who cares?

Everyone? I don't think so. Maybe the pop-dance artists, but I doubt the rock artists do. And the excuse is usually because its hard to sing & dance at the same time -- I guess Ashlee's dancing gets her out of breath.

The sound techs at SNL must hate the Simpson family...

When Jessica and Nick hosted before, during the opening monologue/variety show parody, Nick's mic went dead. At least he was smart enough (!) to stay and share Jessica's mic.

Haha, Ashlee just claimed her "band played the wrong song." More like the backup tape was improperly cued!

GuessWho 10-24-04 01:13 PM

Wow even CNN has the video, she must be losin it

digitalfreaknyc 10-24-04 01:45 PM

You know what's weird. If you listen to the vocal track played...it's on in the beginning and then it fades out almost immediately. Then it comes back in for the bridge (I believe that's what it's called). But that bridge (if it were to be played without anyone singing along with it) would sound weird. I'm betting you this was 1) a backing track so she knew where to start the song and 2) a backing track with her voice on it to sing along at different parts of the song. It's not the melody but most likely a harmony. Gives her a LITTLE more credit but I definitely wouldn't want to be that sound man at the moment.

MJG87 10-24-04 01:52 PM

The vocal started playing realllly loud then it sounded like someone tried to phase it out and from then on you hear it very faintly playing in the background.

shes still hot though

To each their own, I guess, but I find her less and less attractive each time she makes a new appearance. She was at least 'cute' on 7th Heaven, and was just okay when she first introduced her music 'look', but now... ewww.

Honestly, I think during SNL was the first time I've ever seen this girl. I think she's pretty ugly looking. At least she can always fall back on her singing talent! :)

filmerp 10-24-04 02:31 PM

Ha, Jude Law even gave her a WTF? look when she blamed it on the band

kevin75 10-24-04 02:32 PM

that was hilarious! judging by her voice at the end, it sounds like she smokes about 4 packs a day. i wouldn't want to hear her sing live anyway.

I REAL artist in a REAL band would have went with it and belted out the song no matter which one was played. It is pretty clear without the pre recorded audio Ms Simpson is usless.

SuprVgeta 10-24-04 02:53 PM

 that dance reminds me of Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber when he buys the Orange Tuxedo

I'm mostly pissed that she blamed her band. Back-up bands like that get very little credit for what they do in the first place. Ugh. Even though it made her look moronic since it obviously wasn't the band's fault, it's still damn classless.

Someone needs to get behind her and just smash a guitar into her skull... repeatedly.

Coral 10-24-04 03:04 PM

SNL is pretty lame for allowing lip-synching the last few years, but in their defense - what choice do they have when the top selling "artists" have no talent what-so-ever and require lip-synching?

Maybe this will lead SNL to change their policy on lip-synching? Highly doubtful though.

This is a glorious example of what's wrong with the music industry today.

The sad thing is this will probably result in Ashlee Simpson selling more CDs than ever.

mikehunt 10-24-04 03:10 PM

conspiracy theory:
the band, being against lip synching and tired of never being mentioned or acknowledged, paid the person incharge of the voice track to play the wrong one knowing she'd fuck up and not recover
