"There is nothing on the show that isn't scientifically possible"
HAHAHAHA! I was going to post in one of the other threads when somebody (can't remember who) got pissed because people were still speculating about "supernatural" explanations. Look, for one thing, I think it is silly to belive ad hoc what the creators say about the show. Two, and more pertinent is that what is 'scientifically possible' encompasses a lot of stuff that most of us would consider supernatural. A case can still be made that time travel is "scientifically possible". The advancement of modern science, while incrediblly great is still in its infancy if you look at what we know vs. what we don't know. Many probable and accepted theories allow or predict some pretty wild stuff. Case in point tonights episode. Locke's cure may in fact have a "scientifically plausible" explanation, but as far as I can conjure, there isn't anything that would explain this in a manner I would normally consider (with regards to what we currently know about human physiology) that I would call scientifically possible. That said, am I the only one, despite the evil music, that is routing for Locke? His story is so incredibly sad! I hope he turns out to get his shit together and becomes and good, honorable character. Also, I am surprised at the complexity and originality of his character considering the show is filled with several other 'cookie cutter' dramatic staples. |
Originally posted by Charlie Goose Why did they have to burn the fuselage too? It could've been used for shelter after the bodies were removed. don't like issue of the bodies in there, move down the shore a few miles.. Not like a rescue party would show up, glance at the plane, then not look around.. heck scratch into the fuselage "We went ---------> that way." oh well just a tv show, they get to do dumb stuff :) over all, great ep this time.. Really happy to see that others like the slower build up that "Lost" is doing.. Wonder what some of the twists for the other people on the island will be? Locke's was pretty good.. being they did not save his for later, have to think some of the other people have some really big twists on the way.. Originally posted by Patman I think JJ Abrams was going for a Shyamalan reveal at the end with Locke's miraculous recovery from being wheelchair bound. You'd think 4 years would have some atrophy set in which would make it tough to walk even if the condition was relieved by the fall from the sky and numerous jolts from the landing. |
Anybody know what kind of pills the hobbitt is taking?
|
Doesnt look like pills, I think its H.

If we get into wish granting territory, anyone want to venture that Locke's fantasy-become-reality will be his punk ass boss, trussed up with nylon and prostrate on the deck?
|
Well, my Tivo recorded Entertainment Tonight instead of Lost (which came afterwards). Hopefully I'll be able to pick the ep up somewhere else. Did this happen to anyone else on the west coast?

Wow. Great Episode. I actually teared up a bit at the end. Locke is a bad ass

Originally posted by Charlie Goose What? No posts yet b.s.-ing that they figured out Locke's secret in the first episode? My first thought when he was sitting in the break room with the toy soldiers was "We've been snookered!" Nobody can claim they saw that one coming. I got the TPS reports connection, but I couldn't remember if it was an exact quote :o They better keep revealing more next week because they keep piling on the secrets. Now he's seen the thing and he won't tell anyone what it was? That made as much sense to me as Jack saying he didn't want to know what Kate did  I think the woman might end up being right about her husband being alive. She'll probably at least find out for sure. They spent enough time on that scene that the tail of the plane is going to turn up at some point. As for the ending, so much for believing anything from the creators in interviews. No sci-fi my ass. I can't wait to hear the explaination for that one. |
Damn this was another great ep. And like a couple others here, I sorta teared up at the end.
Best show on tv as far as I'm concerned. |
I thought the guy in the suit standing in the woods was an incredibly creepy image.

It was also nice to find out that it is Walt's dad, but he hasn't been a father to him until two weeks before the crash. |
Can't say much that hasn't already been said, but no doubt about it: it's easily one of my favorite new shows in a long long time. :)

The most interesting character by far and not one of the Calvin Klein/Lancome models that happened to find their way onto the flight.
Certain things bother me like Jack staring at a strange person for several seconds then turning away only to have him disappear. Couldn't he have yelled out HEY! or something? Doesn't he know you never look away when you spot something strange because it always disappears? I also wonder about the sinister music they played while showing Locke in that previous episode. I don't understand why they did that other to suggest a red-herring. If this 'creature' is so huge then it must be invisible for no one to have seen it yet. Maybe we'll learn why Locke didn't mention what it looked like as soon as he came back since he came face to face with it judging from the camera movement and his expression. I'm enjoying the show but at times it seems the creators are ignoring logical reactions and questions in favor of stringing the viewer along. |

The whole Locke storyline was doled out wonderfully. I still see Terry O'Quinn as his shady Peter character from Millennium or evil Gen. Santiago from Harsh Realm, so it's hard for me to not be slightly distrustful of the guy.
But after last night I see him in a whole new light. At least so far. good stuff! |
does anyone think
Spoiler:
I really hope not, since I think this show is more intelligent than to do something that's been done many times before, but it's an option... |
John Locke -- badass Enlightenment philosopher, now a badass boar hunter. Are the creators hinting that Locke will be more of a thinker in future eps?
I assumed the guy Jack saw was either a) his father or b) a dead former patient (or both). Jack has trouble dealing with death, didn't want to talk much about why he got into medicine, etc. I still think the biggest mystery of all isn't what's on the island, but how these folks 'survived' falling from 35,000 feet. Speaking of what's scientifically possible... |

Another great episode. Anyone else thinking there are some jealousy issues btwn Sayed and Jack re: Kate?

That was quite an ending.
