I know this is a huge thread bump but I watched this for the first time the other night with my girlfriend and was pleasantly surprised. I'll try to catch this.

I'm bumping this thread up because I just watched the final episode of season two which was filmed at the hotel that inspired "The Shining."

I've been watching this show all along, thinking that the TAPS members were a bunch of well-meaning guys who, unfortunately, have little or no understanding of what science is. Any "evidence" they've gathered, I have assumed was faked by either the production company, or by the owners of the property being investigated. I believed that the TAPS guys were honest, and that they were being duped along with the TV audience.

But then I saw this last episode, where the two major pieces of "evidence" both were very obviously faked, and both invloved the TAPS guys. This changed my opinion of the entire run of the show, and more importantly, of the investigators. If they would cheat for this episode, they have probably been doing so all along. I personally don't believe in anything paranormal, but I did believe these guys were genuine. I'll probably watch the third season, but not with the same attitude I had before.

Gizmo 06-12-06 11:56 PM

I'll have to catch this episode. Ive seen a few episodes here and there, and most of the stuff they find is very unbeleivable.

SleepyW 10-14-06 11:44 PM

Ghost Hunters anyone?

Season 3 just started this past Wednesday (11th)....anyone else not missed an episode since season 1? The last few episodes from last season and this first episode (at the Bird Cage in Tombstone, AZ) were quite eventful. I occasionally view the TAPS board after a show, but wondered if anyone here watches the show religiously?

BTW - this is on SciFi Wednesday nights.

SuperBatMan 10-14-06 11:59 PM

Everytime I watch this show, I just can't shake the feeling that it's incredibly staged.

The Infidel 10-15-06 12:26 AM

I don't know about it being staged, but at the very least I've found it pretty lame. Every episode I've watched so far is nearly exactly the same:

1. People hearing noises or feeling cold chills or whatever.
2. TAPS comes with all their fancy equipment and they set up.
3. We get to see them talking about stupid problems while they're "investigating".
4. They don't find anything, and/or they debunk the stuff the homeowner was experiencing.

I prefer the shows that basically show a collection of actual photographic/video/audio evidence of strange stuff from around the world.

The Wife and I love GH and watch it every week. She's much more of a believer than me in these type of things, but I do enjoy the show a lot.

Andalusia 10-15-06 08:38 AM

I dig this show and I'm glad it's back. This episode was eventful, but I wish they could've caught half the shit they "saw" on camera. Oh well, isn't that usually how it goes?

I did like the EVP of the old-timey music playing in the background. That was weird...

lopper 10-15-06 10:31 AM

Damnit.

I forgot that the new season started up again and forgot to set the DVR. I'll check for a rerun of last weeks episode to record and then start recording the new episodes from this Wednesday forward.

I watched a couple of episodes during the first season and thought it was just okay. Like some others have said, it feels incredibly staged at times and there's only so long that a show about ghosts that doesn't really show any ghosts can hold my interest.

Then I somehow got caught up in an all day marathon of the last season one Sunday and I was hooked. This has become appointment tv for my girlfriend and I, at least when we can remember that it's on.

Fielding Mellish 10-15-06 10:55 AM

Wait! What was that!?!

Hey, look. I just produced an episode of Ghost Hunters.

Lemme guess - you watched 3 minutes of one episode? You obviously didn't see any of the past 3-4 episodes (dating to last season) where they've caught quite a bit on camera.

Have you seen the Stanley Hotel episode? Myrtle's Plantation episode? The old prison episode?

Did you see the Florida lighthouse episode? That has probably been the definitive episode as far as catching an actual "entity" on camera. Nice to hear some people like the show - I'd hate for it to go away. Their site, http://the-atlantic-paranormal-society.com, has forums where they follow the episodes as they air. Can get some great video clips and analysis from viewers.

I'm sure it's "scripted" in a flow sense and when they meet with the 'clients', but I doubt anything during the show is set up. News would get out fast if they faked things due to the SiFi channel crew also being there. I think it says a lot that they they try to debunk instead of blow smoke up everyone's ass that every ghost people think they see is real. They've caught much more on camera the past several shows than most of their episodes last season, but they also disprove things that they could easily let go and say "could be the ghost doing that"!

GoldenJCJ 10-17-06 10:29 PM

I enjoy the show and while I don't watch it weekly (I watch it when I stumble on it), I usually catch the marathons they air near the end of the season.

My only real gripe is I don't think they stay long enough. They'll set up in the evening, investigate for a couple of hours, and then start to tear down the equipment at 1 or 2 in the morning. I'd like them to stay all through the night and then pack up in the morning. It just seems like they'd catch more on tape.

It looks like they are doing a 5 hour (or 6 depending on where you look on the website) live show at 11pm on Halloween from 'The Shining' hotel!

Ravenous 10-18-06 02:46 PM

Ya gotta be a bit of a ghost hunters sheep to admit some doesnt seem like total bullshit. I was going to make a thread on this myself but I doubted others interest.

Ever question why J and Grant seem to see the biggest most important thing? Yet its never captured or faintly captured? They see the most, hear the most, its pretty stupid.

Why does everyone else get so scared easily and run? That should get J pissed more often.

Why is it when they say they hear something the show plays a sound effect?

Alot seem fishy. The prison one, if you look close the shoes seem to have detailed soles and a drape over a person, the lighthouse was too fuzzy, coulda be anyone.

Truthfully I call bullshit of everything. Theres no way they can prove it is real unless Im there withthem. I havent missed an episode though becuase i love the history aspect is great. The premier with the bordello is a prime example.

gfoots 10-18-06 09:27 PM

The formula of the show is to debunk a couple of the client's claims early in the episode to create a sense of trust in the TAPS guys. That way the viewer is less likely to disbelieve the fake stuff that "Me and Grant" come up with later in the show.

I original assumed that the show's producers or the owners iof the property being "investigared" were pulling one over on the TAPS guys, but take a look at the "Shining Hotel" episode to see some incredibly hamfisted fakery of evidence involving both Jason and Grant. Then re-look at the older evidence with a more skeptical eye.

Strafe 10-19-06 08:27 AM

I certainly don't take thier word for everything the claim to experience - I mean at heart it's a reality show. What reality show isn't scripted? The bottom line is, the personalities work, the subject is interesting an I am entertained. I'm willing to suspend my sense of disbelief to enjoy the show more.

I enjoy Coast To Coast AM too but I certainly don't take it at face value either.

Deadman31 10-21-06 11:41 AM

I dont take the show too seriously and I can see why people wouldn't like it but I find it fun and it holds my interest.

bloopbleep 10-21-06 06:18 PM

decent show but I like the one the airs after it with Boston Rob better.Sci Fi Investigates.

melvillefan 10-24-06 10:31 AM

I Love Ghost Hunters

I have watched Ghost Hunters from the beginning and my favorite episodes have to be the 'Lighthouse' and the 'Sanitarium'.

was the 'Sanitarium' episode, the one where they videotaped a shadowey figure on the catwalk - that was ultra creepy.

dgmayor 10-24-06 10:34 AM

They're doing a 6 hour Live Ghost Hunters Event on Halloween from midnight to 6am (odd time IMO... Especially on a work night). I'll probably tape it and watch it in pieces heh.

honestly, that sounds kind of boring, I agree I tape it and fast forward through it after the fact.

dom56 10-24-06 06:00 PM

It's okay, it a lot better than Most Haunted on the Travel Channel.

This show is a riot. You have these people saying stuff liked "What's the [bleep] was that noise?", "[bleep] I so scared right now." , "What the [bleep] was that?", "[bleep] someone just touch my shoulder."

Davy Mack 10-24-06 06:25 PM

The most haunted people have been busted many times for being rigged.
There's lots of video (from the unedited footage showing this...)

devilshalo 10-24-06 06:27 PM

I watched a couple of episodes. It always seem slike they never really give the place enough time to investigate. Like if nothing happens that first night, they're outta there. I'd rather watch MTV's Fear. :p

darkside 10-24-06 10:45 PM

Pretty entertaining for a completely fictional investigation.

SuperBatMan 10-31-06 10:41 PM

6 hour 'live' show from the hotel where 'The Shining' was filmed is currently on.

I'm almost hoping these idiots get attacked live on cam. 'So&So, are you here with us? If you are, please move something so we can know.' One time, I'm hoping a ghost throws a chair at them.

Ravenous 11-29-06 02:10 AM

What the hell, did they cancel this? I saw the last episode in Ireland (was a great one, with that pretty boy wannbe getting knocked on his prissy ass and crying like a bitch), and at the end it stated "on the next ghosthunters the team continues in Ireland.."

The next week they showed the tombstone rerun. Now this week will be nothing, what the hell happened?

harrydoyle 06-06-07 04:38 PM

Ghost Hunters

Just read that the premiere of Ghost Hunters season 3 is tonight. That really snuck up on me. I think that show is solid, the places that they investigate always remind me of classic Scooby Doo episodes. If you're into spooky, it's good.

kantonburg 06-06-07 07:40 PM

Thanks. My wife will be glad. She loves this show.

kdubby 06-06-07 07:56 PM

Pretty sure it's not the premiere for season 3, but more of a continuation of season 3. In the last few episodes before about a 3 month hiatus they went to Europe.

Ghost Hunters Open An Office In My City!

Well, I just found out that the men from the TV show Ghost Hunters have opened an office in my city this past week! They publish a monthly magazine about the paranormal and they have their office about one mile from where I live...Does anyone watch the show? Does anyone read the magazine they put out? I was thinking of stopping by their office at the Mill Outlet and seeing if they give free samples away....What do you think?

AGuyNamedMike 06-08-07 07:35 AM

I'd ask for a job, personally!

rfduncan 06-08-07 08:09 AM

Who ya gonna call?

kdubby 06-09-07 07:27 AM

I love the show! That is very cool they opened the office near you.

tofu 06-10-07 03:26 AM

Wait, what kind of free samples do they give away? Free ectoplasm?
