I guess all these theories help explain the original title of the show:

Steven Spielberg Presents: MagiWish Penisula!

No - the original title actually was:

Lost On An Island That Seemingly Manifests Your Fears Where Hot Chick Evangeline Lilly Wears Handcuffs And Bathes On The Beach In A Skimpy Outfit Periodically And More Than Likely A Bunch Of Cool Plot Twists Will Be Thrown In Every Few Episodes, Especially During Sweeps

but preview audiences thought it was a tad long.

ah, but the dog is alive, and on the island. the island will not just give you your dreams or fears. that would be too easy... it just presents you with the opportunity to achieve them. the boy must find the dog.

pretty obvious if you ask me...

I will spoiler-ize some of this, though anyone who's reading this thread won't be spoilered by any of it. It's from an interview in SciFi Wire with David Fury, co-executive producer:

While Lost is an amalgam of different genres, including SF, Fury explained that realism is the key in making it all work.

"What we are trying to do is make sure everything has a very Scully explanation," Fury said, referring to the X-Files character.

"This is not a show about the supernatural, despite the fact that
Spoiler:
we have a very huge creature that likes to eat people.
Despite the surreal, bizarre aspects of the island, there will be an explanation for it. It may not come for a very long time, but certain information about the island will explain how things are possible. We'll try to root it in real science or real pseudo-science. There will be no mystical reason or an island of monsters. The island has been around for millennia, and many people have found themselves on it, and as far as we know, nobody has ever gotten off. There is also the possibility of others being on the island, they just haven't seen them yet. And we'll never know how big this island is. It could be enormous, but odd things will keep them from knowing the full length and breadth of it. It's an interesting little allegory. It will be very mysterious."

So no more
Spoiler:
mystical island talk!

DOH, you beat me to it! That was my guess: everyone who we've met actually died in the crash but they're in a "purgatory", and the people who we thought died in the crash have actually gone on to whatever's after purgatory. As in, there were no survivors of the crash, just some caught in purgatory, some went right on. Tada, solved it.

and the monster is some supernatural being that actually moves them to the real heaven or hell... thus, the pilot got sent on.

Anyone remember that Full House episode where they all rented a boat while in Hawaii and Danny was sailing towards an island but in reality it was a potato chip crumb on the map? And then they were stranded but they were really on the other side of the island they wanted to be on and then there was some Elvis impersonator concert and uncle Jesse sang?

It's probably something like that.

Anyone?

I guess he didn't make it, because they found him in a tree, IIRC.

Argh! Due to stupid CRTC rules here in Canada, some channels have to simulcast other channels, etc. Anyway, it cut off the last couple of minutes to go into The Bachelor, which started a few minutes early on another channel (even though it is on the same channel in the US).

Anyway, what happened in the last couple of minutes?

The guy with the scar found the dog, then told the dad to give it to the boy.

Kate was going to tell Jack what she was wanted for, but he told her not to because their old lives ended w/ the crash and it was a fresh-start for everyone.

Michael gave Walt his old yellow lab. Then they showed everyone in a nice, peaceful moment. Then they showed the ingenious Mr. Locke, who made the dog-whistle to find Old Yeller, and the happy music stopped as the camera panned around his head.

Ok, thanks for the recap.

What's up with Scarface? He looks like a Nazi to me. He gives the Nazi vibe. Or he could be a pedophile. Or who knows, maybe he is a priest or a clown.

Why couldn't Jack just listen to what Kate had to say? Sheesh!

Did Jack kill the patient? I missed that part as well. I know the weird guy shot him but missed his heart.

This show is awesome - plain and simple. And besides the find of the century in Evangiline Lilly ("Kate"), the best part of the show is definitely Terry O'Quinn ("Locke"). I think he is the key to the whole story.
