So I for one thank you B.A.

Cheeky monkey!
Books are great: they're like television in word form!

I think what was done with the LAX thread is a pretty good idea. I know I've started threads for shows with the date in the title and then they end up getting very few responses so I'll just end up responding to that thread instead of making new threads. The funny thing though is that BA's name will still be there as the OP and the threads will still be pushed to the first page. I'm not sure if that really solves the problem with "forum domination", but there's really no way to avoid that.

This summer we had one big thread for Big Brother and that worked out well. But obviously more popular shows warrant a separate weekly discussion.
I would love to hear some feedback on this. LAX obviousy makes sense as perhaps some other new shows like the Mountain.
But what about:
Everwood
Las Vegas
Without a Trace
These were a few others B.A. requested to merge and I wasn't sure if that would be preferred by the majority of the forum. I noticed the first two shows at least generated an average of 15-20 responses per episode, which makes me think it's enough to warrant a weekly thread.
What does everyone think?

A vote against. I haven't been watching LAX, but I scrolled through the thread "pretending" I might be interested or watch it when nothing else is on. I don't think I'd like scrolling through a whole season to find the current eposode and jump into the conversation.
Does merging the threads really save the Forum something into terms of storage or bandwidth or something? If it does, fine, we can all do some little things to help Geoff with costs. If it just makes the front page look "nicer" but some standard, I say screw it. We generally only discuss each episode for a day or two (there are a handful of exceptions), and they fall off the page and get replaced by episodes of other shows at about the right rate, whether they have two posts or 100.
I prefer episodic threads for the individual episodes. If someone has comments on the "thrust" of a whole season, that's ok too and can be the "whole season" thread, but I don't want to look for detailed discussion of an episode there.

I agree, but I guess the question is what shows deserve their own weekly episodic threads, and which shows should have one designated one & only thread?.....

Old Dude brings up a good point about not wanting to scroll through old stuff to get to current info.
Unless this somehow saves Geoff money with bandwidth, I would hate to have giant single threads on a show and predice I would post much less in TV talk.

I think that I wished I had read this thread before following through with BA's requests!

This is such a great forum and hardly ever requires any moderator action. For the most part we're well-behaved and have good friendly discussions. Why the big push to ruin that?
There is nothing to be gained by merging the threads. However, you will lose me along with (I assume) others who won't be reading or posting in those threads. Why? What are we gaining?

This was a horrible idea on my part.
I apologize to Jadzia/Static/Dead for making inane requests.

das,
I agree with everything you said and I like the weekly threads the way they have been run in the past. I see no problems with having weekly episodic threads, and I think iy is the best way to read about and discuss the episode you just watched while avoiding spoilers on later episodes.
Personally, I get so backed up on Tivo'd shows to watch I often find myself reading a previous week's show thread well after it originally aired.

Nah, it's not a horrible idea. In the wake of this strangeness, you're trying to come up with good alternatives. While I disagree with you, I appreciate that you're trying, particularly after being kicked around a bit for trying to help out the last time.
I do think some shows work as single threads, like those oddball reality shows with strange schedules or syndicated/daily shows. For weekly dramas, though, where plot information is important and spoilers are to be avoided, it will cause more harm than good.
If there were a compelling reason to risk losing posters, I'd be more open to it, but I'm just not seeing the need.

I take back my saying that the merging of threads is a good idea. At first, I thought it was a good compromise, but I agree with everybody that's posted since. There's absolutely nothing wrong with how things were before.

Bullshit - you'll read the LAX thread and say something about the mis-placed music and make me spit up my coffee as soon as I read it.

How did I miss this thread. I too echo das' comments and give a hearty
to B.A. Who cares if he starts them all as long as they are done within a reasonable time of the airdate. Is there a prize handed out for starting threads - is that is what making people mad that he is on the ball?

I realize I'm late to the party here, but I also have to back up Das' arguement. I honestly can't recall the last time I ever looked at who started a thread in this forum. I come here looking to discuss the television shows I wan't to discuss. I've been a member of DVDtalk for a few years now, and as you can tell by my title, I don't post all that often. I'm very thankful to find threads already started on the shows I wan't to watch, because quite frankly, if it's not there, I move on. Why I'm not inclined to start my own, I don't know. Just my nature I guess.
I can think of many times when I was reminded a show was coming on because of the thread for it here in TV Talk. I browse this forum on and off all day from work like a lot of you. The threads in this forum always help to remind me what to watch, when it's on, what I should be DVR'ing, etc.
Back when I first got into Alias, it was mid season two, and I watched all of season 1 first, and then got myself caught up into 2. Afterwards, one of the first things I did was search TV Talk for many of the old threads to read what others thought of these episodes. Merging threads would have totally killed this for me.
Finally, what is the big deal if a thread or two gets bumped off the first page? Are the TV Talk viewers not smart enough to go to a second or third page?? I realize many say tv rots your brain, but come on.

I'm not late to the party, but since I haven't spoken up yet, I'll do so now.
I'm against the Monkey on this one. While he makes a lot of great points, someone has to play the opposition. Might as well be me I guess.
Down with order and reason!!!
