Why are this week's That 70's and Rescue Me threads closed?

So, again, this is not a public forum, it is private. They can do what they want when they want to anything we post, and the first amendment has nothing to do with it.

I think that's the first time I've been called uptight on DVDTalk before. First time for everything, I suppose.

From: Bartertown due to it having a better economy than where I really live.
I have to agree that locking them simply because one poster made them all was stupid
it's one thing if someone is spamming with non sense, or is in other making thread after thread on topics that could easily wait a while between them
but in tv talk you often want a thread on the show while it's still on. if there isn't a thread on that show yet you should be free to start one regardless of whether you recently started one for another show

Not to beat a dead horse, but I can name 3 times in the past 2 weeks where I would've forgotten about a show were it NOT for B.A. setting up the post in advance. Had someone not started a thread till afterward, I doubt I would've remembered to watch them.
So I for one thank you B.A.

No one had requested for it to be opened up but when I saw the new thread I figured that meant people still wanted to talk about the episode.
As the "junior" moderator here, I did not close the threads in question so I figured they should remain closed unless there was a demand from the forum.
Personally, I haven't watched the Kevin Hill pilot yet so I might just want to post there myself. As I posted earlier, if anyone wants to post to a closed thread, please send a request. Otherwise I'll just let it be.
Thanks!

It appears to me that the threads were closed primarily due to "forum domination". This isn't anything new.
We generally like to keep it to about a maximum of 5 threads started by one person so that other people's threads aren't driven to oblivion by that single person's interests. In this case it appears there were way more than that number and there still are currently 8.

I think most would understand if the threads were useless...but if you do a search for threads b.a. started there is but one thread(which was locked) that did not have replies. To me it is irrelevant who starts a thread about a tv show...even less so if they are getting replies.

And if I were bored I could put 10-20 new threads that would be interesting to me and probably some other people in the Tech Forum right now.
Would it be fair to people who are currently discussing other things and want those threads easily visible? I don't think so.

You do realize why that doesn't make any sense for TV Talk, though, right? During the Fall season, we could have as many as 10 relevant and necessary new threads every day. Someone has to start them. Who cares if it's often the same guy (someone who takes the time to put informative information in the first post)? The only reason I can find is vanity, because the threads are going to exist regardless of whose name is attached to it.
If a thread is getting pushed off the front page, it has nothing to do with there being multiple threads started by one person. It simply has to do with the frequency of new shows and the lack of interest in that specific thread.
The "general" rule of 5 max threads by one person makes sense in other places, and it also makes sense in here if someone is creating a bunch of polls or opinion or "what's your favorite ..." threads, but not for the weekly episode discussions. At some point, common sense needs to trump what is generally done.

I can understand the rule for other forums, but I think TV Talk is a little different. Here, the discussion changes daily, based on what's just aired. If B.A. hadn't started those threads, somebody else would have, right around the same time.
Plus, we're well versed in the search function here, and hunting a few pages in for a show that aired a few days ago, but we haven't gotten to yet. Since most of us are DVR owners, you see a lot of threads resurrected as late as a week after the show airs.
Edit: wow, I said just about the same thing as das (although not nearly as eloquently).
What other threads were pushed off the front that people are upset about?

Maybe I don't understand then. Because I don't even understand the "necessary new threads" part.

to Das for taking the time to make great arguments and posts in this thread.I read a lot of the threads here, but don't post often. Many times the most infomative posts have been by BA or Das. I can understand the point about threads not wanting to be pushed to the bottom, but it seems that the ones getting pushed were previous week episode threads that might not get as much of a reply a week later as opposed to a current post on the show.
Another thank you to BA.
I just had to comment on your post signing.
Is dsa = Das Service Announcement?
