I always thought the "Cheers" theme DIDN'T fit the show. It's a great song, of course, and very memorable. But it's also kinda sappy and sentimental (life's got ya down, so head to the place where everybody's your friend, yada yada), which the show tried very hard NOT to be.

For current shows, I love the "Arrested Development" theme. It's quirky and offbeat, which describes the show, too.

I'm really surprised this hasn't been mentioned, but Veronica Mars. Absolutely perfect song for the show. Of course I'm not sure how it's going to fit for season 2, but maybe they'll surprise us.

Just got finished watching a 4-day marathon of the Firefly complete series set, and I have to say that the theme for the show fits it to a T. I'm not a fan at all of country western style music, but I really enjoyed the Firefly theme. It never seems to get old. Not so much when Joss sings it though. Must be the banjoes that really get to me.

Great Bernard Herrmann-like theme for a Hitchcockian show.

I agree with The OC really fits the mood of the show.

Also:
- Quantum Leap
- Boomtown
- The 4400

Good fits:
The Office (both versions)
Buffy
The Norm Show
The Rebel Billionaire
CSI (all)
Alias
Beauty & the Geek
Desperate Housewives
Smallville
Married... with Children (I didn't always feel this way)
The Wonder Years

Bad fits:
Joey (sounds like it should be on a Valtrex commerical)
South Park (Primus is great but this has always seemed like a weird pairing to me)
Gilmore Girls (too sappy and sentimental, should be something quirkier to match the show's tone)

Alias? Really? I always thought the opening had pretty sucky music.

My all time favorite is Angel. The music they used is absolutely brilliant, making it my favorite intro for a show ever, yes, even beating out Buffy...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Weeds yet.
