I remember my friend showing me a taped version of "Hush" a few years ago, and i thought it was one of the creepiest things I'd seen on tv. I started watching the show for awhile... but I stopped when WB killed her off and UPN brought her back. I guess I just got tired of it. All in all... I like it, but I just can't keep up with it.

Is there a TV show that's ever been more polarizing? It really seems to be love it or hate it. (Granted, the hate-it crowd doesn't seem to have more than 4-5 out-of-order episodes under their belt )

My wife loves it, so I have spent time watching more than a few eps. I can't have those hours back, so I just console myself with the knowledge I made my wife happy. Buffy-the-TV-show literally makes me retch, even more than Xena did. The dialogue is well written, but the stories are trite/predictable/boring and the vast majority of the characters are tragically sarchastic, self-absorbed and angst ridden, always in search of a new opportunity to deliver a snappy retort or artificially wry pop culture reference. The movie was, at least, entertaining. Now I can't really blame Joss, as I found Firefly to be nice indeed, and eminently enjoyable. Anyhow, vive la variete, just don't make me watch it.

I got in very late in the game with Buffy. Like most of you, I had watched random episodes and was pretty unimpressed. A friend of mine really liked the show and I would tease him about it. Then he challenged me to actually sit down every week starting with the season six premiere and then judge it. At first I was like, "'Buffy-Bot'? A demon biker gang? This is awful!" Then I kept watching and gradually got more and more into the characters. I started watching Angel as a result and enjoyed that as well (despite Connor...). When the DVDs came out I was first in line. And I even turned a friend of mine on to the series when I forced him to watch season six with me.

Even though season six ranks somewhere in the middle for me now, it was exactly the type of show that I wanted on TV that I hadn't found before. There are clunkers here and there throughout the series (as with all shows), but overall it's one of the best television dramas of all time.

I was thinking the same thing.

Anyway, I give credit to the OP (and some others) for watching enough material to form an opinion on the show. Few things are more pathetic (and laughable) than "hating" a show/film you've never even seen. Buffy is a unique and imaginative show that isn't written to attract a huge audience, so it's not surprising that there are many who don't enjoy it as much as the rest of us. It has pretty specific themes, and it's not for everyone. No big deal. I can respect someone who watches a series I like and doesn't enjoy it. We all have different opinions, and that's cool. Frankly, I don't have any problem with someone expressing a dislike for something he actually watched. It's those that consistently and repeatedly proclaim some "hatred" for a show, often having barely seen an episode, who aren't worthy of response. Sadly, threads like this draw them out of the woodwork.

There were a couple years where I watched Buffy - their senior year in HS and the first year in college. It was entertaining, but then I found the show to take itself way too seriously.

I don't. Just to corny and hooky for me, and I've never been into "horror" stuff anyway.

So you dont like it, thats fine but why spend so much time posting comments on something that you Hate? Do you feel it is extra cool to go Against what's popular?

Buffy can't be put in one genre box...it's as much a comedy (hence all the silly monsters and jokes) as it is a drama as it is anything else. So the complaint of it being ridiculous is a bit silly, as it usually aims to be. Some people, like me, enjoy things that break conventions with every genre...but there are a lot of people who require that all genres remain in an easily identifiable little box. I'm glad i'm not one of those people.

With all respect to the people bashing the show, I am just guessing they dont like the show because it is all over the map and and you can fit it into any one category. I can see how some people wouldnt get it because it isn't like Law and Order or CSI which is pretty much the same every week(all franchises included). At least we never got Buffy: Special Vampire Unit or Angel: Miami Hellmouth. It tried to be different and I think many here are badmouthing it because it doesnt fit into "The Box."

I still dont get why a whole thread was started to voice someones dislike for a show. I could understand it if people were bashing uncreative works of crap like All The Reality Stuff that is on but a show that tried something new?

I guess you can call me a casual fan. I've seen all the episodes when they aired but have not bothered to watch them syndicated.

I thought they should have stopped the show for good after Season 5 (you know how it ended). Season 6 was horrible. Season 7 was better but not as good as seasons 1-5.

I was a bigger Buffy fan up until they had the singing/musical episode. How some people like it I don't know. It sure didn't help that none of the actors can sing that well. I hated that episode so much it effected my entire view of the whole series. I just didn't like it anymore like I did. I still watched new episodes but it fell out of my top shows in my view.

I watched the final season of Angel and since then I've been catching the earlier season re-runs. Because of the close connection I started watching Buffy, but it doesn't really do it for me.

I definately like Angel, but not a big fan of Buffy.

You stopped liking the show because of the musical??? That was the only bright spot to a lackluster season.
I think you didnt get it. They werent all suppose to sing good. This wasnt suppose to be Moulin Rouge or Grease.
