I don't hate the show, but I tried watching it when it first came out and I just couldn't get into it.

Interestingly enough, they filmed it at my old high school.

i had a friend who would tell me how excellent Buffy was, and then TV critics would say how great it was, and many times i tried to sit down and watch the repeats on the FX channel and i never got further than 10 minutes before i turned it off. i didnt like it, i was bored by it, i didnt see the appeal of it.

flash ahead sometime later, i decided to download (gasp) the entire first season and give it one last chance. strangely i liked the first episode, it was cute and witty and entertaining, and i was looking forward to seeing the next episode. as i got further along into the first season, the show was really getting excellent, episodes like the dummy one and the nightmare one was really great. and then i watched the first season finale and i was BLOWN AWAY. honestly, i thought it was one of the best hours of television since Twin Peaks.

i have since bought every season of the show and im officially a fan. i dont know why it took so long, but it happened and im hooked.

It is important to get in from the beginning you did.

For some reason I found myself watching the episodes of Angel where they found Fred and went to Lorne's homeworld. I knew it was a Buffy spinoff, so I turned to that just in time to see the last few eps of season 5, including the finale. Hit me like a ton of bricks.

Then I went back to the beginning and started catching up and got the wife hooked.

Ya, my girlfriend and her sister just got all(?) 6 seasons of it, and man...that show is just bad I think.

I watched some of the first season, some episodes of the later ones, and I just really can't see how it went on that long. And horror is one of my biggest genres, but the repetitive nature of the stories and the retarded dialogue just don't do it for me.

At this point, it's probably my favorite show ever. I could watch at least an episode a day and not get tired of it. And FWIW, I don't consider SMG all that attractive...

Also, I HATE James Marsters
Even though I am as big of a Buffy/Angel fans as humanly possible, I do have to agree with this statement, eventhough on a rewatch of season 6 and 7 back to back over the last two weeks, it does make more sense for Buffy to end up with Spike rather than Angel, but the reason behind this would take a book and i realy don't have the time to write it.

The problem with the show is that it lacks full frontal nudity and graphic violence.

I caught a few episodes here and there on TV and never really got into it...

then I got the Season 1 set and became hooked. It's one of the best TV series ever, the writting and characters are so wonderful. I've now seen the first 6 Seasons and can't wait to find out what happens in Season 7.

the thing about Buffy, you really have to watch it from the beginning in order... it's like one really long awesome movie... if you catch an episode here and there, it doesn't make much since. watching it it order, there are so many great plot twists and turns....it's fantastic.

I dare anyone to watch it from the beginning, in order... and NOT get hooked.

Buffy/angel is my favorite show of all time. I really dont give a **** if anyone doesn't like it. All i know is i love the show. I mean some people love to watch "friends" and some love to watch reality tv shows. I'm not going to diss a show just because i don't like it. Its all about someones personal taste. Your opinion doesn't mean anything to me. I cant say the show is the best show of all time, but to me it is. Just my opinion

Wait a tic, I just realized what you said, what Spike movie?!

And SMG is cute, but she looked better the first couple of seasons when she still had some babyfat on her.

Any other shows you've never seen that you'd care to critique? I mean, your analysis of this was so perceptive....

Buffy is a very good show, as is Angel. People need to see episodes like Hush, The Body, and Once More With Feeling or watch the transformation of Wes in the last few seasons of Angel to see how great these shows were.

Agreed. Hush shows some great acting/writing skills.

I forgot what the ep for the body was about

Once more with feeling was great! it stayed true to character and was such a joy to watch!

westly did go through a major transformation! went from a weak geek to a tough guy who can be smart and be a fighter.

You forgot about Fred!! fred shocked all of the angel/buffy fans by turning into that goddess. i forgot how to spell her name lol but anyways the last few eps of season 5 showed off her amazing acting skills

I concur with the original poster. Buffy is silly, ridiculous, unfunny, and overall utterly awful. I tried getting into this show because my friend liked it and I couldn't. I don't care much for drama on TV anyway, but that show didn't even try to be dramatic. Dawson's Creek had more drama in the first 5 minutes of every show than Buffy did in its entire series run. It just amazes me the show lasted as long as it did. So, yeah chalk up another for the haters club. Joss "Its not my fault, Halle delivered the line wrong" Whedon, you make me laugh!

Same thing originally happened to me. Caught episodes here and there on re-runs. Could not get over the stupid vampires/demons and switched the channel in 10 minutes. A few years later Best Buy had a sale on Season 1-4. Decided to check them out since there were so many positive reviews on HTF and, at worst, I could just sell them off on eBay.

I became hooked after the second episode. I totally understand people who think that the show is retarded though. The vampires/demons and the "slaying" are blatantly unconvincing (and probably stupid) when they are taken out of context. But the show is not really about those nightly creatures. Once people can get over that point, I am sure that they will appreciate the show.

Besides Buffy and Angel, there's a lot of popular shows around here many love that I don't like. Freaks and Geeks and Family Guy come to mind.

I've seen the first three seasons of Buffy, the first season of Angel, and scattered episodes from the remaining seasons of both
You've watched 4+ seasons and you dislike the show enough to start a thread about it? You need a girlfriend or a hobby or something.

I pose this question to you, Daniel L, (And all other anti Whedon people here); Why do YOU think Buffy is so highly regarded by Critics? Why do YOU think Buffy is studied in College Symposiums, and has several books written about it's subtext? What are WE as Buffy fans missing that you see so so clearly?

Most of the negative reactions here remind me about the only time my Mother and I had a conversation about Buffy as I was watching it

Mom: "So, uh...is this show a comedy?"

Me: "Yes"

Mom: "But it's also a drama right?"

Me: "Yes"

Mom: "But it has all these Silly monsters and fights...I don't get it"

Me: "Yes...you don't get it "

In all fairness though, my mom is in her 60's.

Buffy can't be put in one genre box...it's as much a comedy (hence all the silly monsters and jokes) as it is a drama as it is anything else. So the complaint of it being ridiculous is a bit silly, as it usually aims to be. Some people, like me, enjoy things that break conventions with every genre...but there are a lot of people who require that all genres remain in an easily identifiable little box. I'm glad i'm not one of those people.

I hate Buffy, but like the Angel series. That ep when he turns into a puppet is pretty damned funny!!
