And my God, are they liquidating the entire cast? Lionel is dying from a "rare liver disease" and hell, he's being arrested for murder. Lana is moving to Paris. Pete is moving to wherever his Mom is. Jonathan is shows signs of death (heart attack, the "price" for taking Jor-El's powers).
Maybe the show will just become the adventures of Clark Kent, where Clark wanders the world saving people. Hey, that sounds better than Smallville.

I doubt that Lionel's liver condition is going to get the best of him any time soon. I'm sure we'll be reminded of it from time to time, but I imagine that the whole thing's going to be dragged out.
It's also entirely possible that Pete changes his mind, as well as Jonathan getting some sort of miracle cure for whatever's bugging him. Also, keep in mind that they've never come straight out and told us that the price for the power was weakened health. It could just be a red herring.
That was the glass case her father mentioned in the first emily episode. The writers are assuming you watch the show.

As someone posted earlier, I'm watching Smallville now out of obligation. It's not fun sitting through week after week of this just to get an occasional "cape" moment of allusion to Superman.

So is this freak supposed to be the evil female version of Flash?
Once again, they should just call this show The Luthors because they really are the only compelling characters on this show.

Can't believe they killed of the Jan Itor.
I think the plastic room appeared in a later episode last season when it featured Emily (as the "ghost" of Lana's childhood friend who drowned and her father cloned her). Emily's powers came from the kryptonite that her father was using to speed up the growth process...looked it up, that episode was called "Accelerate" from season 2. Emily did have super-speed in that episode.
I was more reminded of Magneto's holding cell when looking at Lana's new crib.

Anyone else notice it sounded like Lionel was listening to The Godfather soundtrack at the end in his office? Geez, bash us over the head with the subtlety.

I thought this episode was fairly significant and should do a lot to set up the finale.
Recall Lex's line early in the episode about Clark being honest with Lana or stepping aside and letting her get on with her life. At the end, Clark clearly decides he must step aside. This should (and better) effectively end the back and forth relationship between CK & Lana that has become emotionally tiring.
Also, Clark lost his best friend when Pete decided to move away with his mother. Two of the most important people in his life are leaving him. Lex is obviously not trustworthy and his & Clark's relationship has been strained recently (as demonstrated by their banter during recent interactions).
Both of these events are significant to the finale as they will
I'm certainly looking forward to the finale.

Wishful thinking. I do not believe for one second Clark and Lana will become Jerry and Elaine next year, never to have any more Dawson's Creek moments.

Spoiler:
Not flaming you or anything, I wish those things would happen too, I just have zero faith in the writers at this point.

Sam Jones (Pete) leaving the show wasn't a huge shocker for me. I remember reading somewhere on the internet that the producers were hinting that someone from the cast was going to be leaving. And of course it was Pete because he absolutely does nothing in the show. So will the producers introduce a new character? And by the way what happend to Whitney from season 1? Did he move to Metropolis or something?

If it wasn't for the FOTW part, this episode would have been great. There are finally signs on continuity that don't involve Clark and Lana. If the writers could find a way to limit the FOTW's and worry more about the story arc this show would be great.

Whitney Fordman returns from a mission in Indonesia, disrupting Clark and Lana's budding relationship. When Whitney starts acting odd Clark soon figures out that "Whitney" is actually Tina Greer, the super-strong shapeshifter (from last year's "X-Ray"), who faked her death and is back to get Lana again. Tina soon figures that Lana must have feelings for Clark and takes his form. Clark shows up and in a final fight Tina accidentally impales herself. It turns out the real Whitney died in Indonesia.
This is a good example of what I posted earlier - the episodes are so insipid and forgettable, no one remembers anything from week to week to week.

God, how much better would this show be if they could convince Joss Whedon to come on board? He would liven up the stories, write non-idiotic lines, introduce some interesting characters, and darken the mood of the show. Imagine a more Angel-esque feel to of this show. Meh, maybe I'm just going into Angel withdrawals already.

Well next week will fulfill my obligation to Smallville. I haven't really enjoyed the show much at all this season...but I kept hoping and watching. Its become obvious to me now that I won't enjoy it all ever again...so I'm watching next weekend and then, never again!

At first I was ticked because I missed this one, but it looks like all I missed was another FOTW episode, with the Clark/Lana breakup 'n makeup cycle back on Clark deciding not to pursue Lana for her own safety. Note to the producers - okay, okay, we get it! Clark's gonna be miserable! Sheesh!
Next week does sound interesting, if a bit borrowed from "Lois & Clark", where the same thing happened.
What I'd love to see next year - as a way of honoring the Superboy Adventures in the comics - would be three members of the Legion showing up. I know the rumors of Bruce Wayne showing up still abound, but the Legion would be cool.

I think the main thing that Smallville is missing that shows like Angel and Buffy had is humor. Not only is a good laugh good in and of itself, but it also provides contrast. Smallville is more or less stuck in a bit of a thematic purgatory. It's not a light-hearted show by any chance, but the writers never seem to want to make the show all that dark, either. There's just the same constant feeling of "yes, everything sucks and everybody hates each other and is having some huge problem" week after week. Shows like Angel and Buffy tend to have the same general idea (happiness in either of those shows tended to be fleeting, at best), but it was handled in a much tighter and more entertaining way.
Not only that, but in the two Whedon shows, the dynamics between the characters, and the characters themselves, changed over time. Practically every single character on those shows changed over time, resulting in the shows not feeling stale. Characters like Cordelia, Wesley, Willow, Gunn, Xander, etc are all drastically different now than they were when they were introduced.
Smallville's characters are all more or less indistinguishable from when they started. Sure, the Luthors are a little more overt in their scheming, but otherwise all the main characters act exactly like they did three years ago, even after all they've been through. While what they've gone through hasn't been as grand in scale as the typical Buffy/Angel apocolypse, there's still been natural disasters, deaths, etc, and yet the characters are more or less unchanged.

Maybe it is like the Brady kids bathroom.
