Best Sitcom Finale of all time?

I don't remember having the patience to watch most finales. By the time the shows were canceled, I had given up watching them 1-2 seasons before. Cheers, Seinfeld are probably the onl ones I bothered to watch.

Newhart, hands down. Other notables would be MTM (which I do remember seeing), M*A*S*H and Cheers. If Moonlighting counts as a sitcom, then throw that in as well.

I still don't understand all the love for the MASH finale. Yes, it was a wonderful, groundbreaking series with many memorable episodes, but that finale was painful.
. And at 2 1/2 hrs it was way too long. Besides the memorable final shot, there wasn't much that was that great about it, really. Best-rated? Aboslutely, but not best.

My 3 favorite shows of all time (in any order): Star Trek, Columbo and The Wonder Years.
The final show of Wonder Years was very touching and you final got to hear what happened to Kevin and Winnie.
I wish Wonder Years could make it to DVD, it would sell a ton of DVD sets. There are so many men who could relate to the show, it choked me up so many times throughout it's run on TV.

Dora: "The flight?"

The Young Ones.
The entire cast gets into a car, which loses control and drives over a cliff in a fireball.

I guess I'm too young to remember most of these shows. Now that I've had my son the misses and I don't have the time we used to run around. We've both gotten into television a little more and I did watch Cheers a little but in no way can relate to the show like most of you.
The one thing I seem to see is television today doesn't have that one show that everyone can relate to. Maybe I'm wrong.
I do remember most of The Wonder Years but don't remember the finale. Never watched MASH nor Newhart. I also wish TWY would come out on DVD as this may be the ONLY television show I ever purchase on DVD, ok maybe Scrubs. But anyway, I can remember growing up with this show and actually learning a thing or two from it. I'd love to have this for my son when he gets to be that age. But by then DVD will be to him what VHS is to us now.

I am also surprised at how many people actually liked the Seinfeld finale. I loved the show, but I was very dissapointed in the finale. To each is own.
I voted Cheers, but it was a very tought decision. Any of the ones where everyone splits up or leaves are always emotional and in general, a nice way to end a good run. Newhart was unique, and funny, and right on the mark, which is commendable, and was a close second for me.
I completely agree with TWY being a great finale, even if it wasn't planned. Married With Children had a very dissapointing end (they didn't know it was the finale when filming, just like TWY), and I wish they had done a proper finale with it (even a voice over would have been nice).
For some reason, the finale's of Family Ties (when Alex moves out) and Growing Pains (when they close the door to the empty house), always struck a emotional tear with me as well. maybe its just me.

Yeah Mike, I don't think anybody wanted to leave their 4 favorite people on tv end up in jail. Aside from the end, I thought the finale was pretty good in how it brought back Jerry and George's pilot plus all of the side-characters from the series' run. But I suppose the four will have even more time to do 'nothing' behind bars.
You ever see that SNL skit where Jerry was on OZ? Hah, just thought of that, pretty funny.

Though no one has mentioned it, I think probably the best final episode of a sitcom belongs to "Soap."
Funny thing is that for years, it bugged me that they never wrapped up the storylines. Yet, years later, when "Benson" gave a hint to the end of the Jessica Tate storyline, I came to realize how much better it was with everything left as a cliffhanger.
I'm also quite fond of the last episode of WKRP in Cincinatti. Sort of reminiscent of MTM in some ways.
