Best Sitcom Finale of all time?

Just thought i'd post a little poll since this seems to be a water cooler topic today in the wake of ushering in the post-friends era....If you choose Other, tell which one and why....

Newhart, followed by Mary Tyler Moore and MASH.

Did Taxi even have a real finale. Wasn't it abrutly cancelled?

I voted for Newhart. Another finale I liked was Roseanne. It's certainly one of the strangest, but I thought it worked, and it almost made up for the last season.

Almost.

I didn't watch most of those shows, but of the few I did see, the Cheers one really choked me up the most. I'd say that one.

To be honest i don't remember....I was just trying to pick out the most popular sitcoms of the last 30 years....I thought I recalled something of a finale, but maybe not....Roseanne would have been a good option too....oh, well.

Can we have a recap of some of them.

I stopped watching Rosanne about the last season, so I'm not sure exactly what happened.

Spoiler:
I think I recall hearing that Dan actually died of a heart attack and the last season with him in it was more of a dream.

And for the life of me, I cannot recall what the Night Court finale was. I watched that show every week. I guess that shows how memorable the ending was.

Have to go with Newhart. Nice idea tying his 2 shows together.

Fixed.

I can't believe how far Night Court fell in its last few seasons. The whole Phil Foundation, Dan as the Phantom of the Courthouse, Christine being pregnant, Harry adopting the kid...

*shudder*

Newhart, because the episode itself was hilarious without the twist, and then the twist was absolutely brilliant. I would probably take MTM and M*A*S*H tied for second (hard to compare the kleenex move against the rock message), with Cheers very close behind.

Here's what happened in the Night Court finale. Ugh, how horrible...

Spoiler:
- Harry momentarily accepts a job teaching law school
- Christine decides to move to New Orleans to practice law
- Dan decides to follow her
- Harry decides to not accept the job after all and stays the judge at the night court
- Bull gets beamed up by a couple guys from outer space.

While it's probably obvious which show you mean, you may want to edit the poll to reflect that it was called Newhart to avoid confusion with The Bob Newhart Show.

Actually,
Spoiler:
it tied in a storyline from a much earlier episode, where Dan fixed up an office for Roseanne where she could write. It turned out Dan died after the heart attack he'd had about a season earlier, and everything since then, with them winning the lottery, etc., was actually stuff she'd written, to try to cope with losing Dan.

One thing that should be pointed out is that of all the finales, listed MASH was unique in that it played like the finale of a drama, rather than that of a sitcom.

True. Of course, MASH walked that fine line throughout its run.

Of course, M*A*S*H was never a typical sitcom anyway, frequently straying into drama territory.

Out of the ones I've seen (Seinfeld, Friends, Cheers) I'll say Cheers was the one I liked the best.

Yeah....umm.....that's...umm...what I was trying to say about St. Elsewhere....uh huh...."it was a drama that frequently strayed into sitcom territory".....thereby qualifying it for this thread....yeah, that's the ticket...that's my story and i'm sticking to it...

actually, I didn't really process the thread title until it was too late...

I vote for mash because what other sitcom had 2 1/2 hours for the finale. BTW did anyone see the Taxi finale? If so how did that end?
