Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, though, just from some of the comments I hear other women say (present company excluded, of course...
and that means me too!), I'm not sure if women are less shallow than men. I mean, all other things being equal (ie, same age, same social standing, etc), I think women are just as bad. We're just better at hiding it than you guys are.

Oh, yeah, I watched last night, and I kind of felt for the girl, only because I'm sure she was led to believe one thing, and found herself in quite a different situation. Glad she stayed. Some of the guys seem really cool, but that Zach dude, he has GOT to go, what an egomaniac: "I don't want to be the best of the second-best", geez, YECHH!
Oh, and add me to the list of people who think the "twist" is OBVIOUSLY going to be some gorgeous guy who shows up later and tries to tempt her away. Duhhhh. Hope he's better-looking than the guy in the limo, he wasn't that hot, IMO...

The show is going out of it's way to make them look bad, unless they really were given the chance to shave and dress decent and just decided that looking nice wasn't their thing.
You don't have to be good looking to look nice.

This is a very interesting show. I laughed several time watching Melana's facial reaction when she was introduced to the guys.

Got to love the hypocrisy of those guys.
First half of the show: "Why can't women appreciate me for my personality?"
Second half of the show: "Wow, she's HOT!!!"

Elaine, it's different for a man. We're expected to be superficial

I bet they left the guys to fend for themselves, so to speak, in the hair/makeup/clothing department for this opener, just so their true "averageness" could spill out. I'm sure as it progresses they'll be given better treatment to spruce them up. In the promos for future eps some of the guys looked considerably less dorky.

Did anyone notice the cameras? With one camera the guys would have bad complexion and very oily skin and when they cut to another camera (the one where they were together with the girl) , they had a matte skin tone and had fine complexion.

It was kinda funny to think of this switched around after seeing some of the guys trying to help each other out. I can't imagine women doing that on one of the shows, even if it was Average Jane
I thought it was pretty cool of them to shove a couple of the shy guys out there and put in a good word for them.
I was surprised she kept Zach on there after she asked him if he was a jerk. I think she nailed that first impression. I think he wanted to leave because nobody thought egging the short guy was funny. Nobody confronted him, but it didn't look like anyone took his side either. All I could think was, "You're 27?? What a knob!"

First off there is the camera thing and second the disclaimer at the end of the show. It said the footage had been edited and re-cut and that some participants may have consulted the producers about decisions made on the show. Come on.. Does NBC really think we are stupid enough to buy into this crap?
We all know the ******* was kept on the show so that he could cause fights throughout the show. I bet he is one of the last guys left, and the producers have arranged that.
Yeah, Malena is hot as hell, but this show appears to be as scripted as "the big twist" which is so blatantly obvious..
I won't waste the tape anymore.

This was hilarious.
Yeah parts were obviously scripted, but heck, it was rather obvious that Paradise Hotel was too, and I was hooked on that.
I'll definitely keep watching this for the humor and because the chick is very attractive - probably the most attractive I've ever seen on these dating reality shows.

I thought she was staggeringly beautiful in the shots with her hair straight and not looking overly done-up. Seems like a good person, too.
Funny show, I don't care if it's staged or whatever - it's entertaining to me.

I don't see the need for scripting. Why waste money on writers when you can just manipulate things with editing? Any scripting done on shows like these must certainly be minimal. But then again maybe we'll see a movie in 10 years..."Reality Show"

I don't really understand the point of this show. Can a smoking hot Miss America contestant/NFL cheerleader fall for an "average joe"? Ummmm, no.
And I have to agree with the poster that made the comment about the hypocricy of the guys. They all complain that women overlook them because of their looks, then they fall in love with a total stranger because she's beautiful.

Alright, I really don't like Melana. She's a sorority girl going for the only frat boy in the bunch. She's so fake that she reminds me of a lot of the small time actresses I've known from LA. Ick. Most of those guys are too good for her.

guess tonite ep, Melana elimated the joe[s] who weigh over 200 lbs, and all the nerds.
the remaining 6 joe[s] are either movie director, jocks, and above average joes.

Clearly you don't know many women.

[Female "logic"] She wants to "change" him. See, he's a dick to other people, but "inside" he's really a good guy. That's why he's different when he's around her. He's not just acting that way to sleep with her and then treat her like shit when he tires of it. She can help shape him into the decent man she wants him to be. [/Female "logic"]
Pretty predictable really. She wants to believe she's not shallow by humoring these guys and talking about how she wants a good sense of humor and intelligence and a good heart and a good father for her children, but in the end, she's about what you'd expect.
Zach's probably a lot deeper than the editing shows, but he's still a tool, probably the biggest on the show. Everyone else there realizes that he's socially awkward and dorky; Zach thinks he's the shit, but he's just as big a dork as the rest of them, only he's too big a tool to realize it. It's really quite funny.
If she continues down this path, expect her to be crying to her male friends in a few months about why she can't just find a "nice guy."

Melana definitely lost pts in my book last night. It was pretty rude of her to talk to Zach while the other guy was scaling the rock. It will be entertaining to see all of this play out.

I think Melana has realized quickly that she isn't going to find Mr. Right on the show, so she's settling for the best "Mr. Right Now" to hook up with until she can collect her paycheck and go home.
