That sucks!

I'll refer everyone to this thread where I predicted it. I was off by quite a bit of time though.

Maybe I just have no clue on the industry, but how does any network expect any tv series to do well on Friday/Saturday nights? Isn't this part of the reason they end seasons during summer because people are too busy vacationing etc to watch? Why don't they understand that Fri-Sat are pretty much the same thing but year round?

Patman 02-21-08 12:29 PM

You just have to put on programming that skews older, which is pretty much how CBS sustains their Friday viewership.

Deftones 02-21-08 12:35 PM

That's too bad. The show didn't have a ton of substance, but it was heavy on style. Was an interesting diversion that didn't require you to think all that much. It will be missed. :(

Friday night

where tv shows go to die

zuffy 02-21-08 12:55 PM

Now I have nothing to watch on Friday.

B.A. 02-21-08 01:21 PM

Another Friday night death blow.

DJariya 02-21-08 01:27 PM

Not a shocker at all. Once the ratings dropped to 6-7M viewers, most people here knew the show was in trouble.

Binger 02-21-08 01:38 PM

Looks like a Jericho type campaign may be mounting.

Rogue588 02-21-08 02:39 PM

Wow. This does suck.

So, I wonder what the third thing will be...

TheMovieman 02-21-08 02:47 PM

I at least hope they'll do some kind of 2 hour special to try and wrap everything up... Of course, this is the same network that cancelled "Alf" before the second part of the 2-part series finale was filmed (aired?).

Red Dog 02-21-08 02:49 PM

Not terribly surprising. If this was 2 or 3 years ago I would have been pissed. The show isn't nearly as fun as it used to be, so it's not much of a blow for me.

Yeah, but I figured it'd get a half season to sort itself out since it had a poor lead in with "FNL" (not that it wasn't a good show, but the ratings really stunk for that one).

Red Dog 02-21-08 03:06 PM

NBC didn't do it any favors by flipping it with FNL. It was originally scheduled for 9 pm, following DOND. Given that DOND is essentially mindless television and that Las Vegas is escapist fun television, it really made no sense to sandwich a critically acclaimed show like FNL in between them.

Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. 02-21-08 03:21 PM

Well that sucks. Funeral indeed. :(

I don't think FNL should've been on Fridays (despite the name) in the first place. Hell, I think Las Vegas could've done better outside of Fridays as well.

chrisih8u 02-21-08 04:03 PM

It was worth watching. :( And it will probably be replaced by a show that I don't like. At least this gives Vanessa Marcil a chance to appear in a movie where she is naked a lot.

Deftones 02-21-08 04:11 PM

I wonder if they'd do a 2 hour TV movie just to tie up the loose ends. Get Cahn back for a cameo and that would probably satisfy fans.

Morf 02-21-08 04:21 PM

So much for that guilty pleasure. :(

That's what I'm hoping for as well...

Unfortunately I'm thinking that probably highlydoubtful... it was soo much of an ensemble cast for their schedules to ever be linked perfectly enough - plus there just wasn't enough ratings in the fist place (and it doesn't have the critical praise or obsessive fans that "Friday Night Lights" has).

I really enjoyed this show, watched it rather often the first three seasons, and more sporatic the last two years - but I'm sad to see a 5 year investment end in a cliffhanger... a Five year show should have gotten this news before the finale was locked.

Well, if shows now can get a few episodes in the can before May, one would think that the same could happen for Las Vegas and get a proper series finale. If this had been announced after May, then yeah, it would be difficult to get this cast together as most will be on new projects, but right now? I think it's possible.

vwbeetlvr 02-21-08 08:42 PM

to quote a movie featuring the lovely vanessa marcil, "and they weren't even given a goddamn (military) burial." (meaning no finale!) That just isn't fair if we don't get a finale to wrap it all up.

stingermck 02-21-08 09:23 PM

Pretty unfair since Vegas was one of the few shows NBC had a full season of, with the strike going on. One of my favorite shows too :( Maybe they can whip up a 1-2 part episode for sweeps to give closure.

cartman 02-21-08 11:02 PM

I apologize to anyone who watched this show. Last week I was talking with a friend and mentioned to him that I really liked LV and was surprised that I'd been watching the last 2 seasons without even thinking about it. Given my history of getting shows cancelled by simply mentioning that I like them, I take full responsibility for this.
