I just saw a preview for this new show on ABC. I loved out of sight and I see that Robert Forster is int he show as well. I guess he will be playing the Dad. It would be cool if Michael Keaton showed up as Ray. Hmmm I wonder how long this one will last.

I can't wait for this show. I have always liked Carla Gugino - she usually does a good job in everything she is in. Too bad Dennis Farina couldn't be brought back to play her father, but I am sure Robert Forster will do a great job. Hopefully they make a great show that generates fan support quickly or it won't be around for long.

I am really looking to this show-- out of Sight is one of my favorite movies.
I'm kind of surprised that ABC didn't pair this show on the same night as Alias. It seems like Alias would have been a great lead-in for this show. Since Alias hasn't done that great on Sunday nights, it would have made sense to either move it or pair it up with another show.

I agree w/ you on Sunday nights. That would be much better than having this show go up against L & O on Wednesday nights at 10/9 Central. I think that is its expected time slot and I am afraid that is going to kill this shows chances.

I could see ABC doing ads for "Sydney Bristow" and "Karen Sisco"-- tough crime-fighting babes. It seemed like a no-brainer to have these on the same night.
But I guess that's the reason ABC is in last place. They don't even have no-brainer executives making their schedules.

Carla Gugino is sexier than Jennifer Garner anyway, imo.

I too agree that after Alias would be a logical place for it. Who knows, maybe they will hold off cancelling it in favor of re-scheduling once it starts to flail in the ratings.
If all works out for Sydney, (the finale cliffhanger notwithstanding) it would be cool to have the pair team up at some point in a crossover.
Maybe even fall in love?

I'll be watching, but I will try not to fall in love with the show. ABC already burned me by not picking up "Maximum Bob" despite it being the funniest, wittiest show of the summer.

The reason I mentione Maximum Bob is because the novel and characters were written by Elmore Leonard, who also created the character of Karen Sisco in Out of Sight. Leonard's novels almost always have this quirky edge to them.
J-Lo's portrayal of Sisco is her only good performance, in my opinion. But Carla Gugino... hmm, I like her. She has a nice range, from the mother spy in the Spy Kids movies to a stripper in Center of the World.
Incidentally, Robert Forster, who will be playing Karen's dad in the TV series, portrayed Max Cherry in Jackie Brown, also written by Elmore Leonard. Ray Nicolette (Michael Keaton) plays a substantial role in Jackie Brown and also makes a brief appearance in Out of Sight.
I like the actors they chose for this new endeavor. Hopefully, the show will be good.

I don't watch TV much. So I haven't even heard about this yet! But Out of Sight is one of my top five 'modern' films.
What day/time is this premiering?!?

You Wanna Tussle? We'll Tussle -- ABC'S "KAREN SISCO"
By Chris Ryall

Karen Sisco was the female protagonist in Elmore Leonard's dirty little crime novel OUT OF SIGHT, a federal marshal who fell for the escaped bank robber she's hired to capture. Karen Sisco is also the name of the character played by Jennifer Lopez in the movie adaptation of OUT OF SIGHT -- this seems to be the last time Jennifer Lopez acted in a movie and didn't bug somebody or other. But that's neither here nor there. The Karen Sisco in question here is the title character in ABC's new drama, spun off from the movie (or was it the book?).
In this new series, Sisco is played by SPY KIDS' Carla Gugino instead of Jennifer Lopez. And her father, so ably played by Dennis Farina in the movie, is now played by Robert Forster (JACKIE BROWN). If you want an odd "degrees of separation" here, Forster was in JACKIE BROWN opposite Michael Keaton's FBI character who was Karen Sisco's boyfriend in OUT OF SIGHT. I mention this for no other reason than to completely confuse the issue--neither Keaton nor Farina appear in the TV show.
However, Forster does sport one of the oddest tans I've seen outside of ABC news weatherman Dallas Raines -- his coloration is obviously supposed to match Farina's (and be consistent with the younger Latina Sisco) but he just looks...sort of orange. Be that as it may, the two characters share the same relationship they did in previous iterations -- dad is a P.I., and father and daughter talk through their cases with each other. Daughter in this show is career-woman single, with no George Clooney fixation.
Sisco's first case in this pilot is to meet a prisoner at the airport, only the cop helping extradite him dies in mid-flight and the prisoner, a smooth criminal, gets off the plane with the Marshall's badge on his belt. He meets Karen, she thinks he's the cop, he escapes and then the chase is on.
OUT OF SIGHT was directed by Steven Soderbergh, and with his deft touch, Sisco echoed her portrayal in the Leonard book, a tough-but-charming character. While the feel of the show is more standard TV drama than the movie (obviously), the tone retains some of the movie's easygoing Floridian charm. It's nice to see a strong yet attractive and still feminine lead character on a cop show -- normally such characters are man-eating harpies. The show and characters feel immediately familiar, and I say that as a compliment.
Karen's off-and-on FBI agent paramour (he's married when he wants to be) is played here by Peter Horton, replacing Michael Keaton, and here he's a bit more unlikeable yet still with enough roguish charm to make it understandable why an independent woman like Sisco would still dally with him. She also needs to have a weakness for this guy as a crutch, because otherwise, she's pretty near-perfect--she's got a good golf swing, she plays in a weekly poker game with her dad and some ex-cons, and she can handle her end of a revolver.
After the convict escapes from the airport, he makes the bad mistake of calling Karen on her cell phone to taunt her. Now it's personal. Karen sets about tracking him down -- seems like a lot of this Fall's shows I've seen so far feature at least a scene or two in a strip joint -- and things escalate from there. Dad and daughter work together on this case, giving Forster some good work to do, too.
Gugino makes for a charming Sisco--she's eminently watchable, and so far in the pilot, she wasn't saddled with the expected bad TV dialogue. Some movie stars come to TV and almost seem to "play down" to the material, like they're better than this. Others, like Gugino here, are obviously already movie stars and they bring that experience to actually elevate the material on TV. The interplay between Karen and her dad is fun to watch, and the blend of police work in the laid-back Miami setting all give me hope that this show will be a bit more than your average cop show. It's only been one episode, and there's a lot of pilots yet to watch, but so far, this one stands out amongst all the rest.
ABC's KAREN SISCO airs this Fall on Wednesdays at 10:00 PM.

I hope it's as good as, and more popular than, Maximum Bob (great show, great book, needs to be on DVD).

For those of you that has seen the pilot, was that Kelly from Amazing Race 4 as the stewardess at the beginning of the episode? I kept forgetting to post it after I saw it. It is an amazing similarity if it is not her...

Yay ABC....in the words of the late Andre the Giant in the Princess Bride..."I hope we win."
One of thew times I work is weekend evenings, and I actually get all my other work done so I can watch Alias. Practice is alright...Dragnet is ok, though I hear it's a clone of other shows.
