Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread
Maher lit up a joint, and he along with 3 of the 4 guests at the table took a hit at the very end of Friday's show. Margaret Cho & Killer Mike were two of them. Pretty good stuff.
Taking a week off now. Kinda surprised because the show has only been back since mid January.

I think it's rude to puff and exhale in the face of guests if you don't know they're amenable to that. I don't know what Ana Navarro does in her private life, but on the air, she was fighting a losing battle trying to wave the smoke from her face. I've seen a light-up on Bill's show before, but it was much more contained. I don't know what strain that was this past Friday, but that thing looked like the studio was on fire.

I watched the episode tonight, and it was a little eerie to hear Maher say "You can't get anything done with the Supreme Court if you have to run it through Antonin Scalia" (or something pretty close to that)

I'm 100% on Bill's side when it comes to the ridiculous drug laws in the country, but I hate when he does these stupid stunts. It's sort of disrespectful to the panelists who don't want to participate as it is almost like he is in highschool and he using it as peer pressure to make them look bad to the audience.

I actually felt bad for the one chick (even though she was pretty annoying throughout the show).
I don't think this helped his case on getting Obama on his show.

If He gets Obama on, Bill can snort cocaine out of Sarah Silverman's ass crack.

Even more eerie was on Thursday's Daily Show when Trevor Noah said that the Supreme Court won't live long enough to see the effects of climate change.

Yeah I agree. I normally like Maher a lot and I don't think most of the panelists really cared other than the woman from CNN (Ana Navarro) but he still probably shouldn't have done it if he wants Obama to show up.

I was really annoyed by that woman who "knows" Jeb Bush and couldn't admit to his privilege. Sure, he didn't inherit money like Trump did, but his fucking dad was the head of the CIA, vice-president and president! To say he didn't have advantages afforded to him due to his dad's positions, is just blind insanity.

Maher knows he was never getting Obama on his show under almost any circumstances. The only way that would happen is if Bill flew to Washington, did a sit-down interview for the beginning of the show, and the administration got final cut over what was aired.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama was a guest next year, but I don't think he'll appear on Real Time while he's in office.

I was never a fan of Kathy Griffin, but honestly I was never exposed to much of her "work" (and I use that term very generously). Never saw that show she had, only things I can think of was her small part in Pulp Fiction, and guest role on Seinfeld.
Well, it turns out that her persona on Seinfeld was WAY better than what she is in real life, or at least how she behaved on Real Time. I was completely awe-struck at how annoying she is.

Totally agree re: Griffin. She has no idea what a brillo pad of a voice and personality she exudes. She had almost no internal on/off switch as far as knowing when to shut her mouth when others were trying to get a word in edge-wise.

In case anyone missed it, Bill hits it out of the park with New Rules this past week

Even when you don't agree with what Maher is saying, New Rules are usually really funny.

Yeah, my all-time favorite was when he showed a picture of an empty lot that had a sign "This project paid for by Economic Stimulus funds". The New Rule was "Any time I see this sign, I want to see guys in hard hats building shit"

The most recent episode (May 6) has Ann Coulter on the panel & Bryan Cranston as the interview guest/panelist from the show's second half.
Pretty good stuff. I could always watch Maher & Coulter together.

I do wonder how Liberal Pundits like Maher feel about Trump deep down. Of course they dont' want him to be President because he's a loose canon, but he will give them so much material for the next 4 years. Maher's stuff on Trump has been comedy gold for the past few months.

During the week of the Republican Convention, Real Time will air live on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday night at 11 p.m. Eastern time.
That's kind of a neat thing to do. Should be wild.

During the Democratic convention too.
I know it's hard getting conservative pundits on the show, but I gotta think they can find someone smarter than that Emily Miller.

She's pretty hot though, I think Bill tries to get guests he wants to bang, lol.
Did anyone watch Overtime? Ravi almost made her cry.

I'm a #NeverTrumper but the good thing he has done is exposed the Conservative Pundits. His supporters are either Ann Coulter crazy or Emily Miller dumb, so hopefully these people are marginalized after Trump tanks in November.

Just contributing. Not sure if you non-HBO subscribers know that they post 1/3 of the show on Youtube each week.
