I like a good Trump beat down as much as anyone else, but the only reason he sued Maher was to get even more attention for himself. That's all it ever is with that guy, so Maher gave him what he wanted, because he certainly isn't interested in the 5 million and knows just as well he'll never get it.

Re: Real Time With Bill Maher, Season 11 (2013)

Should be a good show tonight. I always enjoy it when Jon Meacham is on the panel.

The Interview:

Robert Zimmerman is the brother of George Zimmerman, who has been accused of second-degree murder in the shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

The Panel:

Donna Brazile is a Democratic strategist, contributor to ABC News and CNN, and the Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. This week she wrote an article outlining the GOP’s efforts to "restart, reform and rebrand."

Jon Meacham is executive editor and executive vice president at Random House and the author of Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power. Read his contribution to the TIME cover story on the papal resignation here.

Jamie Weinstein is senior editor of The Daily Caller. He recently called on the GOP to "steal the cause" of marijuana legalization from the Democrats and make it their own.

Mid-Show Guest:

Joel McHale will join the panel mid-show. He is the host of E!'s 'The Soup' and stars in NBC's 'Community.' McHale recently participated in a Reddit "Ask Me Anything," the result of which can be found here.

Barely spoke once his own little interview with Maher was over. No mentions of Community at all. All about doing The Soup.

I liked Zimmerman's brother. Very intelligent and didn't come off too strong defending his brother. The rest was kinda meh.

I agree that his brother sounded smart and reasonable, but it also sounds like he was media trained well.

I think it's good that Maher gave him an opportunity to speak, but his brother is responsible for a tragedy.

Trump wants attention from the corporate media (who always, always, gladly oblige and enable more Trump nonsense).

The last 2 episodes were fairly solid, but the lineup for March 1st sounds pretty crappy. (I hope I'm wrong on that.)

I thought tonight's episode was pretty good too. I like Steven Schmidt quite a bit. If only more reasonable conservatives like him existed. Newsom is a good guest too.

Also the stuff with Snoop Lion was sort of funny.

Maher's rant at the end was ridiculous. GMO labeling would do nothing to prevent the horse meat scandal. In fact, he even inadvertently made this point himself by noting that GMO labeling is common in Europe (where the scandal is occurring).

But still the idea that we voted NOT to know what's in our food is the part he kept coming back to.

I just read in the news this week the Dairy Association is trying to get the FDA to allow them to hide the fact they're adding chemicals to our milk and not mention it at all the labeling.

Ridiculous.

I didn't know the whole back story to the Snoop name change. Found it interesting. I thought it was just a dumb publicity stunt when I first heard about it.

And when is Gavin Newsom running for President?

Not anytime soon. He couldn't even get a fraction of the funding he needed to run for CA governor.

Bill can't keep his hands off Snoop. It reminds me of the Dean always touching Jeff on Community.

I haven't watched this Real Time yet, but Newsom was just on the Adam Carolla Podcast, and he seemed like he might be smart, but Adam laid into him kinda hard and Newsom played super defensive and didn't really take a strong stand on anything, falling back on talking points. I'm looking forward to see if Newsom is bolder on Real time.

He didn't make that argument at all. He was basically saying that if you don't want to know what's in your food, you have no right to complain when you find out that something unexpected turns up in your food.

Exactly. One of the best final words.

Re: Real Time With Bill Maher, Season 11 (2013)

Snoop's explanation that Rastafarianism and Reggae is why he changed from "Snoop Dog" to "Snoop Lion" made me think of this Bob Marley song called "Iron Lion Zion"
