I actually wouldn't hate Twitter if news outlets didn't use responses on it as their justification for their "Might be an opinion, might be news" articles. Or just reporting everything on it as actual news. It's a platform for trolling, not legitimate discourse.

Yup. There's that meme going around when Musk canceled a customer's order for a Tesla when that person criticized something about it. Yet he wants absolutist free speech?

Just caught the tail-end of tonight’s episode. Judging by “New Rules” it looks like Bill went full TERF tonight.

Perhaps you should watch it again. He didn't exclude or invalidade trans people. Yes some of his questions were provocative and some parts were hyperbolized. His point was not everybody who identifies as trans needs surgery or puberty blockers and if you get puberty blockers you have to consider the the unwanted side effects like risks.

I think its a bit like "gluten". My best friend has celiac disease and his colon is totally screwed up because of it. While not everyone who is complaing about gluten, really has a medical problem with it, it definitely helps, since the food industry panders to those, which is a win to the people with celiac disease.

Changing pronouns is trendy right now and it helps trans people to be accepted and there are people born in the wrong bodies, but not everyone who wants to be identified as "they" is. For some it's just a form of rebellion, which isn't really costing them anything.

When did Adam Carolla become aligned with the right?

I bet he and Kimmel must have some interesting conversations if they still are pals.

Carolla is like Maher, in that he did not make some hard move to the Right, but rather the Left started taking some extreme positions that he did not go with.

And he is like Dennis Miller, in that once he got that label, conservative outlets were the only ones who would have him, and his Right opinions get magnified.

I listen to Adam's podcast, he isn't some Trump-loving MAGA-nut. I'm sure he's to Kimmel's right politically, but that does not mean they can't be friends, and they are.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread

So I just watched this on youtube, and except for NOT attacking Tucker Carlson, what did Adam say that was so right-wing? He said Trump has no morals. He said he supports a bunch of "left-wing" issues. He said he thinks the Democrats have over-regulated California, but Bill makes the same complaint. Compared to what he is like on his podcast, this was very reserved, he barely said much at all besides getting some jokes in.

And Bill's final New Rules rant was exactly stuff that Adam has been saying for a while.

I don't think Dennis Miller appears on any FOX news shows once he got that job at the RT Network where he interviews celebrities.

Adam Carolla has been right for a while now...he's on FOX a lot, brings Bill O'Reilly frequently onto his podcast, etc. I don't think he's FAR right (meaning he's not MAGA), but he's definitely more conservative than liberal.

If you don't stick to the far left playbook 100% you are labelled as as being a right winger, of course both sides do that, there is no room for nuance or common sense anymore

Bill's show was totally unwatchable last night with @KellyannePolls Kellyanne "alternative facts" Conway yapping like a little dog that barks and makes everyone within earshot want to leave the room. Just awful!

Agree. Watch it for Cornel West, then turn it off.

She was only there to plug her new book, excuse the inexcusable, and constantly change the subject. She basically owned Bill throughout.

Spot on assessment. I like when the show has people on I don't agree with - IF they are intelligent and can make a point without just spouting off repeated talking points. Conway was an irritant from the start! She even kept yapping while Bill was doing the WikiTravel tips bit. I think I set a record for the number of times I yelled "shut up!!" at my TV.

Yeah, Kellyanne is a master of the 'Gish gallop' just spewing bullshit all over the place too fast for Bill to try to keep up. Even when he turned to a topic she said she wanted to talk about (high gas prices) she immediately changed the subject to the Supreme Court protestors.

When did Josh Barro decide to go with the pornstache?

I did not watch the whole show but there was a segment near the end where Maher was blaming action movies and Hollywood for the gun violence which sounded a little nutty to me.

But I thought it was playing Doom or was it listening to Marilyn Manson? No wait it's Rap music... or was it violent cartoons? Nope it was Freddy and Jason. Hold on. It was Heavy Metal music.... or maybe it Elvis and comic books? I know. It was Jazz records. That's it. The Devils music.

I doubt many young people are even watching movies aside from Marvel stuff. If they are its probably playing in the background while they're busy with TikTok, Twitch, Discord and anime.

The whole planet gets the same movies we do and they don't go on mass shooting but they always like to blame movies and video games as the root of the problems.

The main point was Hollywood's hypocrisy. It's the wokest place on earth, but they make gun violence look cool. Of course he massively exaggerated the influence of movies.

She's always been that way, but she had a good point that Bill kept trying to dodge: If Trump isn't actually charged with anything, there's no reason he shouldn't be allowed to run again. She was also correct in pointing out that the January 6 Commission is NOT a trial - but Bill didn't want to hear that either. The discussion should have been about whether the DOJ is actually going to charge the Trump with anything.

Conway always make my blood pressure go up, but nothing like she did on Maher this week. Like Bronkster, I literally yelled at my TV "Oh STFU!" Also, she hardly owned Bill. He just struggled trying to talk over her babbling and interrupting.

Yeah, interrupting repeatedly isn't owning anyone. No points were adequately shut down, she just shifted the topic.

Perhaps you didn't catch it, since Conway interrupted costantly, but Maher actually said the commission is a precursor.
