Agree. It's funny to see all the negative comments it received initially. This series gets so much love (deservedly). I wonder if Flay ever watched more and still feels The Shield owns it "hands down".

The Shield really lost something in the last couple seasons. The Wire was strong throughout. I could see thinking the Shield was better or just as good based on just the first season or two of each series, but once they both finished, the better of the two is obvious IMO.

The last 6 episodes of The Shield was the greatest thing in the history of TV.

I don't know what THe Shield you were watching but the last two seasons were very good and some of the best episodes on TV this decade.

I have a question on the phone code they worked out (how the number is actually the number on the other side of the 5 on the phone). When the toy furniture maker fella paged D'Angelo, he called and got his cell phone. However, he was not aware of the code at the time. Woudln't D have called the wrong #?

Um, not really. But OK!

Same one you did.

Were you guys not in the week to week threads for the Shield? Many long-time fans of the show were not too crazy about the later seasons.

Not saying they were bad, but the earlier stuff was much better IMO.

I don't remember anyone really complaining about anything other than people posting spoilers all of the time. I could be wrong though. The only thing I bitched about was Julian becoming a background character, but the story just wasn't about him anymore.

The nature of the show was always going to take it to a place where everyone wouldn't be happy in the end. Hell, the audience was split amongst themselves regarding what Vic's final fate should be. Many also wanted Shane to pay in the end, while others thought he was justified in calling Vic a hypocrite. No way were they satisfying everyone after the tremendous S5 finale. The show took it's turn toward the end of the story right there. It was one of those TV moments that you always remember if you saw it during the initial broadcast.

So, sorry for the major league thread bump, but does anyone have a transcription of McNulty's "the things that make me good at my job fail me everywhere else" quote? I remember it being somewhat profound, but don't have the discs on me. Thanks in advance.

Today I figured out how Russell 'Stringer' Bell got his nickname. I was out in the cold, my nose was running, and I blew my nose into a napkin. Stringers of snot blew North, South, Points East and West, and I had to wipe snot off my forehead and cheeks.

As a kid, Russell Bell might have had the same stringers of snot, hence his nickname Stringer Bell.

Hey, just a logical thought. Who knows where some of these nicknames come from!

BUMP!!

I never watched The Wire when it was on, but I've watched the first two seasons on In Demand. It's a great show, keeping true to the routine minutiae of police work while never being boring.

I loved the scene between Omar and Brother Mulsone in the previous episode. I hope they were both in Season 3, but don't spoil it for me!

Why not? He's posting about the Wire and has watched through the end of Season 2, so this seems like the perfect thread to bump.

Charlie Goose, IMO the show gets better with each passing season. Actually, Season 1 was arguably better than Season 2 (though we're really just talking about the difference between an A++ and an A+++), so you're in for three more awesome seasons.

As for Omar and Brother Mouzone ... two of the all-time great characters on TV. I won't say anything more because I don't want to spoil anything for you, but man ... what great characters.

At least he did a search of an existing thread instead of creating a new one. People bump old threads all the time. The Wire is fair game since it was a favorite show of a lot of people here.

Omar is my favorite character from The Wire. Continue watching my friend.

I always wondered how someone in Randy's situation would survive in a Group Home without having to resort to murder. I mean, aside from having to fight, I assume he also was subjected to rape?

Did they reveal that Snoop is a lesbian in this episode? The part about Bunk saying something about thinking about p*ssy and her saying "me too!"

In real life, the actress who plays Snoop is actually a murderer, lesbian, and from Baltimore, so her performance could be pretty authentic to life.

Which, while I don't have a photographic memory, stands out as the most life art imitating life casting I can ever recall. I wonder how the casting folks even came across her. Somehow I don't see her moonlighting at performing arts school and going on auditions.

Talking about a complete 180 in casting as well!

Melvin Williams, who played the deacon on The Wire was once a powerful Baltimore drug kingpin. Known as "Little Melvin" in certain circles, Williams was sent to federal prison in the 1980's for orchestrating a large-scale drug trade enterprise in Baltimore. Towards the end of his sentence, Williams found a new lease on life through religion. After his release, Williams was sent back to prison in 2000 for a gun conviction, but was released in 2003. He is currently on parole and cannot go further than 40 miles from Baltimore without special permission.
