As for Marlo, "Sweet Jesus" I hope Omar works that.. |
I don't understand why some of you would d/l the 3 episodes. I'm loving the anticipation week by week on this show.
This episode was jam packed, so much going on with everyone as already indicated, loved Omar assessing the situation. |

I'm going to be pretty disappointed if Omar takes out almost everybody on the streets and still ends up dying, so hopefully he ends up okay. Marlo better not win. Clay Davis trying to smooth over the crowd at the perp walk was pretty amusing. |
I liked the scene wtih Herc and Marlo about the camera.

I'm hoping that Marlo does win in the end because I think it would be fitting seeing the bad guy come out on top in this series. On the other hand the sight of Micheal shooting him in the back and taking control would be nice also.

My roommate (and one of my many "Wire" converts) predicted this would happen last year. He sees Michael pulling a Michael Corleone and playing the game right. I'd be alright with that - coming up hard, learning the game from Chris and realizing there's business, and there's evil - and choosing to do it the "right" way. All that being said... Bodie... Someone needs to answer for it :( -Doc |

Even when I try to avoid it on the internet, I can't. I was on a Michigan football board last week, and some assclown put this week's Marlo/Prop Joe ending in his subject line, which created a huge uproar! I missed that actual spoiler, fortunately, but then I knew something fairly big was gonna happen, based on other people being ticked off at the guy who spoiled it. So, since HBO On Demand hasn't been added to DirecTV On Demand yet, I will watch my downloaded version of ep 5 tonight so someone doesn't spoil it for me tomorrow. I'll hold off on 6 and 7, though. ;) |

Great episode. Sad to see Prop Joe go. Despite what he is and does, you could at least feel a connection to the guy. The way Marlo was talking to him when he got shot was the mark of a true sociopath.

Spoiler:
I haven't checked it out yet, but I will be tonight or tomorrow. Things look like they're ramping up quickly! NOTE: Please keep spoilers for future episodes out of this thread. This is to discuss episode 5 and all previous ones. Please do not even allude to future events. |
Yet another brilliant episode!
Loved all the "serial killer" stuff. Especially the scene with McNulty in that meeting at the Baltimore Sun where he and the writer were going back and forth with what they both knew was total bullshit about this so called killer calling them. It was nice to see Herc step up and do something positive with getting Marlo's cell number from the lawyer's rolodex. Also, I was relieved at the end when Omar got away from that shootout without getting killed. With the way this show is, I was actually worried that his character would bite the dust. Wonder what sort of strategy Omar will come up with to try and get at Marlo and co. now that he blew his first move. Anyone know what that beeping was at the end when the wire picked up Marlo's cell phone call? Did I miss something or is that supposed to be an unknown until the next episode? |
David Simon seems to be taking a lot of pleasure in exposing the newspaper business. While he set up his respectable old school characters (the ones that got let go and Clark Johnson's fabulous Gus...who's instincts he makes correct...it was bullshit) he's almost gleefully ripping apart the rest. From the still active voice mail to the irredeamable Scott character.
McNulty caught a break in that Scott Templeton is such a publicity/attention whore, but I wonder how badly it will burn him later. It was ironic that such an memorable character like Prop Joe, certainly someone who had been a drug lord on the east side probably for decades, gets barely a passing mention at the beginning of the episode. No one at the paper even knew who he was. Bubs story was fairly touching this week. I wonder if they'll tie him into the main plot at all, or if he'll just continue to be a side story. Unfortunately, I just don't Steve Earle's acting abilities were up to the emotion of that scene. It was nice to see Cutty back. I wonder if/when Duquan will see the real option. He keeps looking at the street options, but he isn't needed during the day; he could go back to school. Sadly, I think this is headed someplace else. Or maybe this is how Prez or Colvin will be reintroduced. Almost an overload of classic Clay Davis! |
Great episode. Loved Freeman calling Marlo and setting up the wire. Weird bit though was that I recognized the head executive of the newspaper (white haired old guy) from somewhere. He was a professor of mine a few years back went I first started going to Towson.

Sort of off-topic but people may have some thoughts on it either way:
Grand Theft Auto, Rap Blamed for Gang Problem in Maryland County Officials in Wicomico County, Maryland have blamed violent video games and rap music for what they say is a burgeoning gang problem. As reported by the Delmarva Daily Times, Wicomico County Gang Resistance director Dan Dougherty told a community meeting on Monday evening: Now you turn on the TV and see carnage … Extreme raw violence is making an impact on our young people, and we’re growing an acceptance for it. In Grand Theft Auto, you score points by killing cops, stealing cars and beating prostitutes. In the ’80s and ’90s, you didn’t have video games, you didn’t have the violence in the media, you didn’t have the Internet. It creates a lack of respect for life and makes violence acceptable. |
