You are correct , they are going to use the information they get from the tap and claim that it was a CI that gave them the info. They mentioned this quickly when they were discussing the tap.

As far as the Wire Tap goes, they set up a fake Wire Tap for the cell phone, the line is not connected to anything so nothing will ever really be picked up. They bypassed this tap and set it up for Marlo's number, and had that going to their actual setup.

Doc, Thanks for the refresh you were correct and I remember that now, but as far as I am aware there is no outgoing call that is placed when sending a text message, they just wouldn't see an activity. I am still guessing that the Greeks gave him a "secure" line that is encrypted.

It wasn't an iPhone.

Great epsiode though, man I was shitting myself for Omar at the end, and we knew they knew marlo was watching the apartment, not that hard to set it up, Omar should have been smarter.

The Bubbles subplot is well done, I really feel for him, and then Dookie, damn he needs out of the hood, loved when Michael's brother was talking about the Selection!!

He's just so soft and not built for the streets that it isn't funny. It would be like me trying to go down there and live that life on a daily basis. Wouldn't be pretty. Micheal is doing his best to try and help him but Duke just won't listen to anybody. I see things ending badly for him.

Got that right. The fact that they were totally able to ambush Omar--the king of ambush--shows how good they really are, which is too bad, because I wanted Omar's revenge to begin. Can't wait to see what he does next, but he's going to need to rethink his whole game plan...

It looked like an iphone to me. I was thinking it was the chat function kind of like on my BlackBerry. Someonw should post a screen cap of the back of the phone.

The Wire - "The Dickensian Aspect" - 02/10/08 (Now on HBO-On-Demand)

"If you have a problem with this, I understand completely." - Freamon

Spoiler:

Mystified by Omar's disappearance, Marlo and Chris ramp up their efforts to locate their nemesis; After attending a sparsely attended waterfront ceremony, Carcetti fires away at a larger press event, and recasts himself as a champion for the homeless; Bunk revisits some old leads in the rowhouse cases, but is frustrated in his attempts to get bloodwork from the crime lab; Templeton looks for a perfect follow-up to his latest, nationally covered story, which has replaced the city's educational crisis on the paper's priority list; After the detail gets more manpower, Freamon presses McNulty to get new surveillance equipment, but the resources aren't as deep as both hoped; Pearlman discovers new clues pointing to corruption in City Hall; Marlo makes new appointments at the latest co-op meeting; McNulty takes a peculiar interest in a homeless man.

I'll be checking this out tonight with my girlfriend. Can't wait!

Might have been the last one that he could do on the show so they had to make it special.

McNulty's conscience finally makes an appearance. Also thought his reaction to Lester's asking for more was priceless.

Last week I was surprised when the Co-op was in the previews because I assumed Marlo would shut it down. I guess they had to show the scene where he did. Not quite sure what to make of Slim Charles in that scene though.

Looks like Randy's chance at a different life is 100% gone for good.

Good to see Bunk finally find an in road to Marlo only to be shut down by McNulty's BS.

They truly seem to be trying to tie everything together this year. I wonder what Nick has been up to these last few years.

that looks correct, the first time I watched it I thought the back of it was silver. And I saw what I thought was an apple logo.

Either way, a smartphone using some kind of web access could be very difficult to monitor.

Agreed.

My guess is that he's using the same kind of cell phone that the FBI, Secret Service and certain high level cabinet members used prior to 9/11.

The phone "scrambles" the signal on the broadcast end. Absent the appropriate "descrambling" technology (coupled with a specific regularly changing algorithm code key) all you'll hear on the receiving end is static.

Remember, the Russians have/had an informant in the FBI so it's reasonable to assume that they could gain access to this technology. It's also not out of the question that they are using something aquired from their contacts in the former KGB.

LOL, you folks are really over-thinking what's going on with the cell phone.

I think it was a text message. Basically just like when a fax machine sends data, the noise Freamon heard was data being transmitted.

Good to see Randy and yet it really made me sad. Will Prez/Bunny/Namond come back? I hope so.

The way Marlo tore apart the co-op makes me wonder why any one of the other guys don't just cap his ass and be done with it.

It was a good episode, but I need to know how Omar could survive that jump off the balcony. I have a hard time seeing how that kind of jump wouldn't lead to an impact that only results in multiple bone fractures and/or death. One broken foot is not a good answer. Also, Omar winning any war with Marlo with a self hand-tied cast also is not realistic. I'll be patient, and see how it all plays out.

It was good to see Nick and Randy. I guess the plan this season is to do flash cameos with every relevant character of the series that no longer is featured. And for those that really pay attention and keep score, I think David Simon has done a good job bringing in either actors or the real people that inspired "The Corner" mini-series for cameos. I really am interested in Simon's version of Baltimore.

Can someone explain exactly what was going on at the end with McNulty and the mentally handicapped guy? I guess I'm not smart enough to follow.

What I think was happening is that McNulty was was getting realizing how far he has taken this and was actually feeling bad about what was going down. He has been catching hell from Bunk, and I think we saw McNulty realize that he may have taken this too far with the "misplacement". At least IMO that is what happened and the reason he was staying around so long is that he was torn about actually leaving the guy there.

Still doesnt stop them from putting Marlo in a "compromising" situation with Omar. For the 1st time I think we saw Marlo admit "defeat", on the current Omar situation "we had our chance". I do agree though that it was a "Spiderman\Batman" move that he did, there was nothing really to break his fall. With the current news story though of the guy surviving the 47 story fall this 3-4 story fall is plausible, but the amount of injury is suspect.

What I dont think is right though is that they are sending text\image messages and its going over as a phone call? as far as I know (I dont know a lot) this is not correct and that the phone wouldn't make an "outgoing call" when sending text\photo messages. Maybe I am wrong though.

Omar's whole character is unrealistic now. Has been for awhile. I love the character, he's great, but now he's more like a superhero than anything else.

It's to the point to where I prefer Marlo to the two douchebags that run the paper.

It was Michael who killed Sollozzo, I mean Bodie.

Is that correct? Also, knowing how dedicated Bodie was to the job 'n all, didn't Marlo care enough to see if it was true that Bodie was snitchin'? I mean, good corner-guys are hard to find, and Bodie had proved himself, as he explained to McNulty. Bodie knew Marlo was cold-blooded, and "had to go," but Marlo didn't know Bodie felt this way. I guess Marlo's instincts are serving him well...

I'm missing out on Season Five because I don't have HBO, and the DVD's obviously aren't out yet to rent...I guess, in S-5, you see how the lives of the four boys are progressing (Michael, Randy, Dokie, and Namond). It was strange how fast Michael went from refusing to run dope with Namond ("that's your thing," Michael said to Namond), but I guess because he became indebted to Marlo for taking care of his brother's father, he succumbed to his fate (I would think he quit the boxing gym).

I guess Randy had to get tough or die, and I'm sure he isn't willing to die...I hope he ran away from that shit-hole, found salvage with Michael and Dokie.
