I just watched it off cartoonnetwork.com, very nice, but waaay too short. Let's hope GL is impressed enough by these to greenlight even more episodes, and with a long running time.
|
Way to short and I'm not a big fan of the Sam Jack art style being used here so eh.
|
why not just do a regular length series? The material is there, and it was good to watch, but 5 minutes is stupid.
|
yeah. by the time you get into it, it's already over
|
I enjoyed it, but like everyone, I wish it was longer. 5 minutes doesn't give them much room to work with.
|
Again, to set the record straight....
10 episodes now 10 in February-ish 20 total |

I heard a rumor that these will eventually make their way to DVD. can anyone confirm this.

I'd assume it would coincide with episode III but that is way too far off in the future. (may 2005?). unlees they release it closer to 2004 ( when the OT may supposedly appear)
|
Originally posted by milo bloom I don't think there's really any need to guess, Lucas has taken the plunge into DVD, he'd be a fool not to release them. The only question is when. ;) |
The Clone War cartoons are only 3 minutes long. NOT 5 minutes. I watched the first episode and felt it was incredibly stupid. I asked myself... what the hell can you show thats interesting in only 3 minutes? I got my answer. Not a goddamn thing.
|
I thought it was very interesting. And like what Tuan Jim said in the very first post, at least we don't have to put up with unneccesary bad dialogue. I think they will definitely have a different impact when collected on DVD and played all together.
|
If you don't like watching them 5 minutes at a time, just wait until Friday, Nov. 21. Cartoon Network will be showing all 10 episodes in 2 half-hour segments. Episodes 1-5 in the first half-hour, and episodes 6-10 in the second half-hour.
|
But that means I have to actually wait to see it! :p I'd rather download them and watch them whenever I please. ;)
|
I prefer that way, too.

If you watch them online, there's optional commentary tracks.
|
"Commentary tracks"...?
Why do I get the feeling that'd be like listening to an episode of Conan's smash series "60"...? ;) |
Did anybody else think that Palpatine was Mr. Burns there for a moment?
I'm sure that this will work out much better once all the episodes are wrapped up and put into 1 complete package. |

Although you can't judge the entire run from the opening chapter, I have little doubt that Genndy will churn out a better story than Lucas.
|
DAMN! Missed the first episode. Are there any plans to repeat these or is the only way to see them again downloading them?

What I meant was, repeating the individual segments before the next segment airs. Looking at the DirectTV guide, I think the answer is NO.
It's FIVE MINUTES long. You'd think they'd be playing this all the time. |
I think they are repeating, it's just the guide doesn't display it. Chapter 1 was repeated in the last five minutes of Justice League on Saturday, for example.

Like everyone else said main gripe is way to short
|
For that reason, think I'll wait til they're all aired and just watch all 10 at once...
|
Has it ever been said why they are so short. Why not 1/2 hour episodes? I'm sure there is enough battles and stories in CW to cover a dozen episodes.
I hope it wasn't done because CN wanted ratings for every day. I know I will watch the CW part and then turn to whatever show I normally watch. I won't watch whatever crappy cartoon CN has on after. I hate all of CN's Cartoon-Cartoon shows with the exception of Powerpuff Girls (which is decently funny). |

On Friday, November 21st, the first 10 episodes of the Clone Wars cartoon will be shown in two blocks on Cartoon Network in North America. Episodes 1-5 will air from 7.30pm (ET/PT) with approximately two breaks. Episodes 6-10 will air from 9.30pm (ET/PT) with approximately two breaks. Those who receive Cartoon Network via satellite should check their local listings for the times. |
Has it ever been said why they are so short. Why not 1/2 hour episodes? I'm sure there is enough battles and stories in CW to cover a dozen episodes. If you noticed in the recent news from the Lucas camp, they have a very detailed marketing campaign rolling out until the new movie in '05. These shorts air in the Fall & next Spring, the OT on DVD next Fall, then the movie in Summer '05. If these shorts were any longer, they wouldn't have been ready to air so quickly. I've seen the first 10, and I assure you, they get better as it goes on. The last 5 eps are very cool. |
I like these, but why have previews for the next episode. Just don't understand, it's like showing half of the next episode!
|
I think that they are pretty good. But it also makes me think how far the series has gone down that GL needs to make cartoons to bridge a gap between movies. The biggest mistake GL made was not to write the complete screenplay for the prequels like PJ did with LOTR.
And after two movies I still don't get the feeling that Anakin is headed for a fall. I don't see why him being headstrong and independent will be his downfall. A lot of jedi including Qui Gon turned out fine. |

Originally posted by Shemp Lucas initially only wanted 1-minute episodes, but Genndy felt he could tell a better story in 3 minutes. |
Just watched ep. 2 on the website since I missed it last night. I'm really liking the sense of scale -- always liked that about Star Wars and this series is no exception.
A lot more is being conveyed purely by the action than the dialog and I'm really enjoying it -- despite the brevity. I'd certainly prefer a straight 1/2 hour, but this is better than I expected when it was initially announced. |
I've watched chapts. 2 and 3 (missed chapter 1). It's good but I'm in agreement with the rest of you. Way too short.
I would have liked to have seen 6 half hour long episodes over the course of 6 weeks or something. |
Personally I like the the shortness of the episodes. I'm always for people experimenting with formats. Also, extended action scenes can become boring very easily. For instance, Black Hawk Down was a really well-made film, but I don't know anybody who loves that movie because the extended fighting becomes so monotonous. Maybe I'm just bored easily, but Samurai Jack always bores me too.
|
I want to kill someone for how crappy and a waste of time chapter 3 was. Yay! five minutes of back and forth shooting and one line. -rolleyes-
|
I've only seen the 1st chapter, but I wasn't too impressed. I don't particularly like the style of animation or direction.
I know it's only 3 minutes, so I won't judge it completely, but I can point to a few moments that exemplify what I don't like. First, the "Mr. Burns" like Palpatine, as commented on earlier here. Second, the shot of Anakin giving a hateful/evil look when Obi suggest he isn't ready for his own command. And third the looks that Obi and Yoda give when Palpatine ends the meeting abruptly with "then it is decided." Some things I didn't care for just due to animation, like "Mr. Burns" fingers, or Amidala entirely. But more so it was the style of direction, like the obvious and blunt facial gestures mentioned above and the corny moments. One such corny moment was when Anakin reached the platform to board his fighter at the end and threw off his cloak in a amazing (ly overdone) fashion. And when the cloak blew into C-3PO I wasn't sure if that was suppose to be a comedic moment or not, was it? Personally, on all these fronts I would just like a little subtlety. I know some people will say it shouldn't be subtle, that is should be grand and over the top, or that it's meant for kids, or something. But these are just my opinions and what I would like to see. Also, the reason I only saw the first one is not because I hated the first chapter (because I really didn't, I just found some things irritating) but because I'm not going to re-arrange my schedule for 3 minutes of entertainment. I'll have to wait for the block showings. |
