Don't you guys remember what Angel said to Wesley when he entered the room? He said that this is Angel talking and not Angelus.

Angelus would snap his neck in a second. Angel wanted him to suffer for f'ing everything up.

I just think it odd that Justine didn't do the job right. Definately the more plausible explanation would have been if she did it right and since they already established that a hospital was nearby - he was saved in time and still weak enough for the scene at the end to take place.

I didn't have too much trouble with the ending - Angel wanted Wesley to suffer and so went the pillow route rather than the snap of the neck.

I had to rewind it several times. At one point during the smothering, they showed a close-up of Wesley's hand on Angel. After the Loren-to-Angel note pass off in an earlier episode, I wanted to check to make sure nothing sneaky was going on there. At first, I thought Angel might have been doing the "I'm Angel, not Angelus" thing before the attack to convince Wesley that he was in no real danger from the attack. I hope Angel was just feigning it to make SOMEBODY think that they were still on the outs.

So, obviously the season will finish out with



Seems clear enough to me, anyway. Look forward to watching it.

I think that's a possibility, but I think more likely he really was angry with Wes and it won't be resolved until what I posted above (merely a theory) comes to pass.

Loved the ep, wondered about Justine though, she's strong enough to take on Angel for a bit, and apparently doesn't wound Wesley enough to kill, perhaps having second thoughts? I had an idea that she may be in the Slayer succession line, giving her some strength and moral compass, but far enough down the line for her to go mercernary like she did.

My god, I can't remember the last time any show has kept me wanting more than this season of Angel. It easily ranks up there with Buffy season 2 in my opinion.

I agree that Angelus would have snapped Wesley's neck, but it wasn't about cold hearted killing.

I also feel somewhat reassured by some of the above posts that Wes could have plausibly survived the neck slit. Plus I'd like to add in that Justine is trained by Holtz to kill vampires, not assasinate humans (unless I'm forgetting something from earlier which is entirely possible). She probably though (like a lot of us seem to) that any neck slicing is fatal.

Please. You could just as easily say that it was ripped off from The Last Temptation of Christ, in which the devil was-- a sweet little girl. And I'm sure that even those two examples are far from the only instances where a evil being is shown as a innocent child.

I agree with this...It was stated to establish the fact that he was not going to kill Wes with anything supernatural, but as a Father would for the kidnapping of his son. Not a vampire by snapping his neck or something else more demonic.

at the moment of the pillow attack, Angel wasn't a vampire... he was a real person, a father, exacting a very human revenge... i think that scene was terrific... had me jumping out of my chair and shouting at the TV... Wesley kicks so much ass, i hope he's not being written out...

Anyhow, once again, Angel proved itself to be Buffy's superior... they really need to just cancel Buffy, and make sure those working on Angel, stay working on Angel... really makes me wonder if Whedon has lost his golden touch...because he isn't nearly as involved with Angel as Buffy...

Hey, I'm not knocking it for being inspired, just stating that it was unoriginal.

And for the record "Spirits of the Dead' was made in 1969. "Last Temptation" was in 1988, and the novel it was based on (which I dont know if it has the devil as a little girl) was written in 1955. Luis Bunuels "Simon of the Desert", 1965, also had the Devil portrayed as a young girl/woman, in various guises... thats all I can think of right now. But, the Fellini segment is probably the most notorious use of that characterization, on film anyway.

True, whatever works for you, supends your disbelief, makes you buy into the fantasy. For me it just took me out of the fantasy for a bit, sat back and said, "Well, I've seen that before", whereas for others they didnt buy into the Wesley surviving so long with his throat slit. To each his own. Still loved the episode.
