Why have a host at all? Have an opening number/montage, then have the President of the Academy come out, welcome everyone, make a few perfunctory statements, and then introduce the first presenters. Following presenters could be announced by the announcer.

And get rid of Circ de freakin soliel.

I think it should be co-hosted by Barbra Streisand and Alec Baldwin...

And maybe Rosie can sing the nominated songs...

Lifetime achievement award: Jane Fonda...

Off the top of my head:

Denis Leary
Nathan Lane
Greg Proops
Ms. Swan (oh come on, you KNOW that would annoy people less than Whoopie ) - (and the oscar..yes yes no yes, he looka like-a man...ooh look, he naked. tsk tsk, uh uh uhhh, you so bad - I know, you confuse Ms. Swan, you go now)
Mary Ellen Hooper, a lesser known but VERY funny comedienne.

i'd like to see steve martin do more. whoopi and crystal's schtick gets old. whoopi laughs way too much at her own jokes. nathan layne would annoy me to, over 3 or 4 hours of him would be too much. ben stiller would be great. i bet he'll get a shot at some point.

i like the call for the remaining members of Monty Python... that would just be too cool! (or, at least, have them present one award...

and, if only he was still able, Richard Pryor would be awesome. of course, they wouldn't be able to broadcast it...

realistically speaking, they should give Steve Martin another chance.

I'd love a tape of that night. I know, I always hear it was horrible, but I still just have to see it!

Oh yeah, and Adam Carolla / Jimmy Kimmel would be so kick a$$!
