the borg weren't in the alpha quadrant yet, although TPTB have screwed up the borg first contact
Q sending the Enterprise D into the delta quadrant was originally the first the federation had heard of teh borg, but then in Generations we find out the Enterprise B rescued Guinan and her people, and they were fleeing the borg. Then we find out in voyager, that 20 years before voyager's premiere 2 federation scientists asked for permission to study the borg, so the federation obviously knew something about them before the Q incident

We were having a discussion here at work, do you think they will meet up with the Borg?

I mean Kirk never did and Capt Picard acted like he has never seen this species before so.....

But in First Contact they said they were Borg of that time period.
The only thing I can think of is since in First Contact they kind messed around with history, I guess they could meet up with the Borg.

actually Kirk was the first to see them romulans, they had had non-visual communication pretty close to the time line for Enterprise, there was a major war
although in a book, I think called "Enterprise", about Robert April, he met romulans face to face

Borg of this time period are unaware of humans, as mentioned before.

Also, humans are unaware of the Borg and even the Romulans for that matter. First Contact with Romulans happened with Kirk and co. I guess thats why they had to invent the 'Caliban' or whatever they're called...

Man, the japanese chick is HOT!!! I really love the wide screen format. The look and feel of the show is kinna like the Aliens series, even the space suits. And why doesn't the Vulcan gal wear the uniform, no that I'm complaining. 8-) However her speech pattern and general mannerism remind me a lot of Seven of Nine. The actors overall did a pretty good job. I like this beginning much better than the beginning of TNG, DS and Voyager. Let's hope it stays the course.

"Let's go!" as the captain says.

Oh yeah, love that loading the topedo bit.

Almost forgot ..... the opening music SUCKS BIG TIME!!! Just wish it is more grand instead of the Amageddon rock-a-billy!

And does anyone have any pic of Sato not in uniform, I meant out of uniform, I meant ... oh casual clothing. 8-)

This is what I am talking about. I know they can slip in the Borg, but how?

I mean cmon borg are good a for couple of epsidoes. But what I would love to see is non-humanoid borg. Like a Klingon Borg or Cardassian Borg. That would be sweet.

The hardest part about his show is the fact that, there are paradoxes that could develop as fars as encountering other life forms they have to be new.

His facial structure is extremely cardassian-like, although there's a slight difference in the forehead-spoon area. The skin color and texture are completely different however, as is the neck.

He could be a half-breed, perhaps, but my guess is that he's not meant to be part-Cardassian. They haven't explained anything about him, so far...

Personally, I find him much prefereable to Neelix already, and though I wasn't crazy about last night's ep, I'm generally happy with the casting across the board...

as of the writing of the newest issue of Star Trek Magazine
not even the actor or TPTB know what planet he's from or his species

they act like they havent met many alien species...the vulcans say the havent even charted the sector of space they are in. yet we've seen tons of different speices (well not tons but many so far). Like the doctor, some others in that same first scene, many others on the planet with the Suliban. are these not interesting enough? have none of these species encountered others?

That is one thing about doing this weekly movie, ahem I mean show. All the equipment looks more state of the Art. I mean even though thos sub-light rockets(torpedos) whatever, they still look more high tech than the classy sleek torpedos of the Original Star Trek.

Yeah, but... If you are moving FASTER than the speed of light as when they are in warp, wouldn't you not see ANY stars? How can you see light from the stars if you are going faster than the light can travel? And the warp bubble around the ship would surely distort any light that is able to make it to you, wouldn't it? Yet even in TNG, when they are travelling at warp speed, the stars outside the windows just zip by faster

That would only work for the stars behind the ship. The ship would still be running into the light emitted by stars on every other side.
Come to think of it, the ship should also be running into the light from the stars behind it too. Its like the ship is catching up to the light already emitted a few minutes/hours/days/years ago (letting you see the past).

I hope that made sense...

Just one of those things I suppose you have to give them for the sake of the story. I think the stars looking like a line instead of a dot supports the concept. If you wanted to get REAL picky, the length of the line could determine just how fast you're going.

Seems to me Carl Sagen did a short thing on this concept in Cosmos. The light should be red-shifted going away from it, and blue-shifted going towards it. Or is it the other way around...

As far as Hoshi and her problem with them going the wrong way, she’s just being a twit. A whiner. Waaaaa! Somebody call the wambulance!

No argument there I can't wait for Archer to offer her some cheese with her whine.

I'm glad a Star Trek captain has finally publically announced the wonders of cheese. Enterprise welcomed cheese to the ST universe. Go cheese!

Not really. Picture you are standing in ten forward looking out the window. The stars are 'blurred' in front of you going from right to left. As soon as a photon passes your point of reference in front of you, it is now "behind" you. Since that photon's light can never reach you because it's moving slower than you, I would expect that if nothing else, wherever YOU are, you would not see anything 'behind' you. In this case, I would think you would see stars coming in only half the window. If you can turn your head to the left and still see light, that is not possible according to the laws of physics. Everything should be black once it passes your eyes since the light from anything that passes you can no longer reach you. Basically the ship is riding in a mini black hole.

the ship they went to looks a lot like the klingon transports in the DS9 episode "Sons and Daughters"
except the klingon ships are green
