He's watched a bit of it, I believe, but not enough to really judge. He just thinks the premise is stupid. But loves to watch world's most moronic police chases. Yuck! I've threatened to upgrade him.

[SPOILERS, I guess]
I had this feeling of dread at the beginning of this episode. The title wasn’t “The Naked Before”, but I was still waiting for someone to start rubbing imagined goop off their hands and acting weird…
Am I the only one who thinks Archer shoulda slapped the cr@p outa Hoshi? I mean, that’s the classic cinema response to her type of hysteria. (OK, admittedly, it’s usually used in comedy, but still…) Is falling apart under stress going to be her character flaw? If so, the crew should eventually line up a la Airplane.
Or we could feed her to the doctor’s bat.
Yah, but it’s in Vulcan, and it’s locked up in T’Pol’s quarters under her frilly panties.
If everybody else has shields and tractor beams, etc. it’s not too surprising, remembering that “we” are still infants in space.
Hopefully this will be the underlying theme of the show.
Reserving judgment on the doctor. (das, Richard Dreyfuss??)
Vulcan’s lips are too pouty.
Not much of a music track, thankfully.
Archer doing a soliloquy (several pages of dialogue) to his personal log is a cheat, IMHO. Thank goodness they didn’t have him give that speech to the dog, but at first I thought he was talking to the dog. (Hmmm. I think that just might have worked better. Hmmm. [Wizdar rubbing his chin like the kid in the Dell commercials.])
On a positive note, for those who complain that we complain too much, has anyone considered that Enterprise has to reinvent itself? The Star Trek Universe was already established for the shows that followed, and there wasn’t the need to rehash things like warp drives or transporters. If the writers can resist the temptation to rush into the development of technology, I think the show will continue to be a fresh, new look at Roddenberry’s creation. The idea of the crew getting “cabin fever” was wonderful.
Did he use the word, “Dork”?
Bah!

We were having a discussion here at work, do you think they will meet up with the Borg?
I mean Kirk never did and Capt Picard acted like he has never seen this species before so.....
But in First Contact they said they were Borg of that time period.
The only thing I can think of is since in First Contact they kind messed around with history, I guess they could meet up with the Borg.

Wizdar - um no, he didn't use Dork. He's somewhat knowledgabel himself.
I disagree with your signature. No Trek is always better than bad Trek, to me. That's why I stopped watching Voyager and never missed it.

I'm really getting interested in this series. I thought the episode was generally great.
I agree about the Doctor being an interesting 'alien' aboard the Enterprise. I think be brings an interesting perspective to the show.
For a Star Trek episode, you think they would have been more careful about that, especially in our environmentally conscious (sort of) society.

Also, humans are unaware of the Borg and even the Romulans for that matter. First Contact with Romulans happened with Kirk and co. I guess thats why they had to invent the 'Caliban' or whatever they're called...

This was a good episode too.. I thought Hoshi was great, I like that she's not your typical soldier type. She's scared of everything and more of a normal human being. If you were just a normal civilian and got talked into coming on a battleship in the middle of WW2 you'd be jumpy too
In the other treks all the people just seem like carbon copies of each other more or less (At least thats the idea I got being a non trek fan and only watching shows every so often...), in this show, people seem more "human".
The vulcan chick.. she bugs me but if we have more T&A sceenes with her like the first episode, she'll be fine
And I also like how they don't use transporters. Always thought they were kinda lame.. here it's like they have the technology but they're all scared to use it, like they'll turn out like Jeff Goldblum in the fly
Already this show is shaping up to be a darker version of star trek, and I think that's what I like about it all around. I hope it stays this way and we get to see more action instead of "Lets be happy and make every other episode be based on some social issue that no one cares about". I wanna see explosions and laser gun fights where people get limbs blown off

Has the Prime Directive been established, or do you think that the slug (becoming a huge slug causing ecological havoc) will lead to the creation of the Prime Directive?

I assume that the Prime Directive does not come into effect until the formation of the UFP.

Too early to tell, on the Prime Directive, I think. My guess is that it doesn't exist yet, at least for humans.
Sluggo will grow huge, having no natural enemies, will develop interstellar travel, and will play the title role in “The Son of The Son of The Blob.” Travolta will play the protagonist, and Keanu Reeves will have a cameo. Whoa!

Thought it was alright. Pretty good character developing episode, but not exactly the kind you want to rewatch. Yeah, there were some stumbles like Archers overlong humanity speech to Ni'Pol, and the middle school fiction wrinting of the slug bit,... but I was interested enough to watch the whole thing and had a chuckle or two.
I still get a kick out of all the primative bits, the docking of the ship, the bad targeting, how they are unable to keep a slugalive. I liked the comment the doctor made about how his people dont talk during meals, quick lines like that, in so few words tell you that he is jovial because his people are reserved and being away from them opens him up- its just nice writing.
From the preview, Next week looks like a "scary planet" episode, which reminds me a lot of the Original and Next Gen.

Is Archer's dog (Pothos?) cute or what? I can't wait until that dog finds himself weightless in space in an upcoming episode. That would be funny. Or just take him for a walk in that middle of the Enterprise where Mayweather was enjoying the no-gravity zone.

Where does that dog (Porthos) go to the bathroom? Archer fed him the cheese, but there's no back yard! Are we going to have a "Porthos Runs Amuck" episode? "The Trouble With...Porthos."

technically they're all the same ship, NCC1701
Kirk got it for it's 3rd or 4th 5 year mission

When people say first Enterprise, are they referring to Kirk's ship or Pike's? I don't know if they covered sheilds with Pike's ship, but we all know that Kirk's ship had sheilds.
Overall, good story. Slug was a waste of film. I'll keep watching.
