Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

I've been meaning to bump this thread. I've been trying to watch a documentary on Hoopla over the last couple of days, but keep getting stopped as it says my library has reached their cap for the day. So I guess they are regulating how many people can "borrow" per day now.

Yep, I knew about Shadow, but good to see Mr. Mercedes on there. I have not seen the second season of it yet.

I wonder if it boils down to how much the Library paid/pays for the service. I keep bouncing up against the limit of 5 episodes/shows each month. This month I mistakenly selected an episode I already watched but it counted it again. Now I need to wait until next month to finish the second season of Teachers.

My library only has a 4 item limit. The solution is to try to find another free library in your state that offers the service to register with. For example, here in MA anyone can register with the Boston Public Library and they get give you a digital card immediately.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

I have several library cards from like 5-6 different systems and my Kanopy/Hoopla credits always stack up. This will obviously not be possible in small town/rural areas that may only have access to one library system.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

I have not been able to borrow anything on Hoopla for awhile.

As dex14 said, I think the library is now setting a "max" amount of money county wide per day to give out free borrows and once that limit is reached, they shut it down for the day.

I have a feeling that Hoopla is not long for this world. It's obvious the libraries can't afford it.

I just borrowed. Guess my library is fine with paying for it. It does seem to have a good budget. They're always having nice art exhibits and activities.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

I’m sure it’s only certain regions, but with the libraries closing they are increasing the rental limits on Hoopla and Kanopy. Mine went from 10 to 30.

My Library isn't affiliated with Kanopy but I did just check and Hoopla is up from 5 to 10 per month.

My library doubled its Hoopla loans from 4 to 8. Nice. Time to check out Nude Nuns with Big Guns.

Got an email from Kanopy saying that certain films will be "credit-free," so as not to go against the credits you have. Noice!

I don't think you're in danger of using all your credits.

My Hoopla account (Orange County, CA) still says only 6 can be borrowed.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

Limit here is still 5 per month. Just watched my first movie on it, picture quality was pretty bad but can't complain too much about free. Wonder if they take donations?

I wonder if it was the specific movie or they are reducing resolution for bandwidth reasons? I've not watched anything there for a few weeks and I recall it was decent quality at the time.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

Our state library announced today that Hoopla was now available.
We get 4...
Doesn't seem to be anything all that great so far. Hopefully they'll be adding to it soon.

It's not that great honestly. Only thing is that it's free, however, the library has to cough up the money to pay the licensing fees for the movies. Selection is very Meh and streaming quality is barely HD.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

There is a LOT more content than what shows on the menu screens. Search for a title or actor and you'll get other results. Lots of horror and low-brow stuff that has little to no literary or educational value, kind of like the DVDs I've seen at the local libraries.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

Use the Hoopla website instead of the app. The Roku app has only a handful of movies listed. The website has over 9000+ movies. Use the site to build a Favorites list, then you can watch them on the app.

https://www.hoopladigital.com/

Unfortunately, it looks like they lost all the Disney stuff. They had a great selection of classic Disney movies.

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

I finally downloaded Hoopla which is now on the FireStick. Connected to my Library and found some British TV to stream. Catching up on Line of Duty Season 5 and an Aussie show 800 words.

Works great for me, 10 rental/borrows per month. The streaming quality is mixed, but Line of Duty and 800 words both look pretty solid

Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

Kanopy is great and I get 6 credits per month. Hoopla library is less desirable for me but I get 15 credits per month.
