re: Apple TV -- streaming service

Apple has a ridiculous 10 year 2.5 billion dollar deal with the MLS. Terrible contract and it has to be a major money loser.

All non NFL sports deals streaming companies have are money losers. This deal also seems like a lose lose though, because even though MLS are making out like bandits, financially they are hurting long term growth by putting their product behind a paywall.

How much of the inevitable next price increase will be because of the MLS deal? Stinks that we have to subsidize that money losing move by Apple.

MLS isn't included with Apple TV+. That is a separate subscription being broadcast ON Apple TV. I would hope that those who aren't getting the service aren't being made to pay for it.
The MLB content, on the other hand, is part of the service. Its cost will be absorbed in an Apple TV subscription.

Of course non-MLS subscribers are going to get hit with it. Same with YouTube TV and their NFL Sunday Ticket. Their prices are going up too. Even Prime has gone up $40 since they started showing NFL Thursday games (included with Prime). It's like how insurance companies work.

Here's an updated list of current free trials for Apple TV+.
These might be able to be used even if you've used previous trials; however, you cannot use them if you have a currently active subscription.

https://redeem.services.apple/card-a...t-offer-2-2025 (expires Jul. 31, 2025; do not need to be an Apple Card user; no Apple TV+, but has other services)
https://redeem.services.apple/card-a...t-offer-3-2025 (3 months free, expires Jul. 31, 2025; do not need to be an Apple Card user)
https://redeem.services.apple/card-a...t-offer-4-2025 (expires Jul. 31, 2025; do not need to be an Apple Card user; no Apple TV+, but has other services)
https://redeem.services.apple/uberappletv (1 month free, expires Jan. 7, 2026)
https://redeem.services.apple/en-us/roktappletv-aus-v2 (1 month free, expires Jan. 7, 2026, new customers only?)

Except it's not the same as YouTubeTV and NFL Sunday ticket. NFL Sunday Ticket is an add-on to a YouTubeTV subscription - you have to have a YouTubeTV subscription to get NFL Sunday Ticket. To get MLS Season Pass, you do not have to have an AppleTV+ subscription because it's not an add-on. As Decker already explained, it's priced independently as an independent service that happens to be in the same app. You do get a small price break on MLS Season Pass if you're also an AppleTV+ subscriber, but they are entirely independent subscriptions otherwise.

That isn't true. You can get NFL ST as a stand alone product through regular YouTube. ST is available through YTTV as an add on as well, where the product is integrated into the guide.

True, though it's a different app so it's not exactly the same situation. Regardless, IDrinkMolson has no actual evidence that the YTTV subscription prices went up because NFL Sunday Ticket is offered as an add-on, so there's probably not much more to say.

I was simply pointing out that you don't need YTTV to get Sunday Ticket.

I haven't either and now it appears they're clamping down. Harder to find codes not used before.

The T-Mobile deal is only for 6 months now.

I just checked my account. Doesn't say anything about it being only 6 months now.

Apple TV+ included with our best Experience Plans.

Offer subject to change. Receive Apple TV+ (up to $9.99/mo. value) while you maintain one qualifying Experience Beyond or Experience More line in good standing. Valid only for Apple TV+ in the United States. Complete registration with Apple in the Apple TV app; requires iTunes/Apple Media Services account. Terms and Apple Privacy Policy apply; see the applicable terms at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html. Must be 13+. Only one offer per account; may take 1-2 bill cycles. Apple TV+ is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. Apple is not a sponsor of this promotion. Like all plans, features may change or be discontinued at any time; see T-Mobile Terms and Conditions at T-Mobile.com for details.
I haven't seen any email about any changes to this. Maybe it depends on the plan you have.

Yeah, both Netflix and Apple+ are included in the middle and upper tier plans. Hulu+ is included in the top plan. Those are plans that give you free phone upgrades every one or two years.

I'm taking an online class, so I get Apple Music for $5.99 per month student discount and they throw in Apple TV for free.

Thanks! None of the 3 months worked, said I had already used, but the 1 month did.

Apple TV+ has gone up $3/month to $12.99 now. The yearly rate of $99 remains the same.

I resubscribed last night because I had an hour before bedtime and wanted to finally start watching Severance. It was “only” $9.99. Sticking it to the man!

(The price hike to $9.99 was why I had canceled.)

Whew as my yearly renews soon. Glad they didn’t bump it up as I have been expecting.

I finished Severance but still want to watch some other stuff. I'd forgotten about the price hike but it just got me.

Peanuts content stays at Apple until 2030. That includes library and production of new series and specials
