If you have a student subscription to Apple Music they give you ATV+ for as long you're a student (and get that student rate). The student rate is $5.99 per month.

Thanks. I just redeemed 3 months free. My charter subscription just finally expired on NYE.

Apple announced today that it’s finally bringing an Apple TV+ app to Android devices for the first time since Apple TV+ launched in 2019. The app will work on all Android phones and tablets running Android 10 or newer and will be available today. The app will support both Apple TV+ subscriptions and subscriptions to Apple’s MLS Season Pass service for soccer fans.

I heard it won't allow casting on the announcement I saw. The article didn't mention that.

I guess that's the "mostly" part at the top of the article.

It just seems like an odd thing to leave out. It would be a selling point to not have to watch a movie on a tv. If one is paying for a product, why would a company care how it's displayed?

re: Apple TV -- streaming service

I just installed it on Android.
With every Apple thing, when I try to sign in they send a confirmation code to an Apple device, which means I have to go grab my iPad to sign into Apple TV on my Android phone. It's such a weird system. Isn't there any other way to confirm it's me like there is with every other two-step verification, like a text or email link?

It works on both the Android and Google TV apps. Roku and Amazon already have their own apps.

Do you have a trusted number set up?

https://support.apple.com/en-us/102660

You should be able to get codes that way.

I already have my phone number in there but never get codes sent to me from Apple that way.
Apple loves to pretend that Android phones do not exist. I can't use them with Find My Device or Air Tags either.

It always defaults to my iPad too. I have my phone number set up too.

Is there an option that says "Can't get to your devices?" (At least on a web browser sign-in) The text/call to trusted number option comes up when I click on it.

Yes. Trusted device is just the default method of getting a code. You can also have a code sent to a trusted phone number (assuming you have set one up on your Apple Account) via SMS or phone call:

Not that this is really shocking, but Apple TV+ is losing lots of money yearly. It was probably a bad idea to sign up to broadcast sports like MLB and MLS as well.

It's a tax write off for them considering Apple's net income (profit) was $94 billion in 2024.

Every streaming service lost money when they first started.

re: Apple TV -- streaming service

Apple TV+ has been out for 6 years already.

I know they aren't crying poverty as it's always a profitable company and other divisions likely make up for the losses.

I have it for free with T-Mobile. But, I know the biggest complaint with them and why many don't stick with them year round is their somewhat limited library, even though it's grown. They don't buy catalog movies or shows. They only invest in originals, which is probably why they lose so much money.

re: Apple TV -- streaming service

So many of their originals are excellent.

Apple TV+ is the only Apple product or service I have ever bought or used and all that I ever intend to buy or use.

I admit, I put it off for a long time because I don't care for Apple culture or products. I finally went for it when we got it basically (or fully? I can't recall) for free through T-Mobile.

It was Ted Lasso that made me go for it.

Silo, Schmigadoon, Severance, Shrinking, Slow Horses, Presumed Innocent, Ted Lasso, Prehistoric Planet, The Reluctant Traveler, The Morning Show. These are all winners in my book and I'm up for more.

It's advertising for them + brand awareness, they're probably fine with the current situation.

Maybe lay off the shitty $200m movie acquisitions like Argyle.

re: Apple TV -- streaming service

The "problem" with quality over quantity for a streaming service is that it's easier to binge and cancel, then resubscribe later once content that you want to see builds up. Bundled up with other apple services, the cost is low enough for me to just subscribe all year round but if they raised the price I'm not sure I would even though as you say they have some great stuff, and the quality of their series even just production wise is usually top notch.

I'd say lay off the billion dollar sports deals first. You too, Amazon.
