Got this email today from Apple to officially mention the free extension

re: Apple TV -- streaming service
According to this graphic, apparently the most watched program on Apple TV + is Ted Lasso
I'm surprised that For all Mankind didn't make this list.
Also, I had no idea that the Ted Lasso character has been a gag character for Jason Sudeikis for many years now. I saw a YouTube clip from NBC from 6 years ago where he was playing the character on a fake soccer broadcast.

That’s why there is something about being based on characters from NBC Sports in the credits.

I finally got to watching Apple stuff over the past month. I like For All Mankind, but for me Ted Lasso really is the best show they currently have. I'll gladly pay to watch 2 more seasons of that. The only one I didn't really care for is The Morning Show.

Defending Jacob and Servant are also fantastic series. But other than those, Apple + has been a rather big disappointment so far.
Even their exclusive "event" movies aren't amazing. Certainly not like with HBO Max. Will be checking out "Cherry" this weekend, though.

Anyone been having trouble with this on the Roku? I got a free subscription with my iPhone a few months ago but haven’t watched much on it, and was reminded why today when I tried to watch a movie and it just kept stopping suddenly for a second randomly. Watched a 4K movie from iTunes and on the same app with no problems, haven’t had this happen with anything but Apple TV Plus content.

I have a hard time paying $200 for an Apple TV when every other streaming device is $50 - $100.

I have an Apple TV 4K and I use it semi frequently and I like the interface and it's very smooth and clean. But, Roku and Amazon 4K devices cover most of the same functions.

Even their entry-level 1080p version is $150. You can buy three Roku 4K's for that price.
I can understand them wanting to be a premium brand. But without offering a sub-$100 model, they're pricing themselves out of the mainstream.
An $80 stick model would still be premium, but the price would appeal to many more customers. Which would drive more people to buy from iTunes.

IMO the best streaming device is the Amazon Firestick 4K which seems to normally sell for about $50, but around the holidays it seems to usually be sale priced at around $30.

To me the best is a Shield TV, but like the Apple TV it costs more and is bulkier than a stick.
Though what exactly does the Apple TV do better than the cheaper offerings, anyway, other than better itunes integration?

re: Apple TV -- streaming service
It really isn't, though. The interface is horrible, there's a software bug where it runs out of space and needs to be reset or relinked, and there are ads all over the place. At least it has Vudu now. The advantage over a Roku is basically a non proprietary system where you can sideload android apks (this is also the weakness of the Apple offering, the proprietary system).

They really, really, don't want you to use it though. It's not in 4k and you can't rent/buy from the app. You can watch up to HDX only if you've made the transaction from another device. I don't know why they even bothered with such a crippled version.
