Re: The Criterion Channel -- streaming service
Haven't received my card yet, but the good news is that they seem to have fixed the lengthy delay before switching to HD, when watching via Chrome.
Unfortunately, they still haven't added a skip ahead/back option, but the interface seems to stumble less when using the drag bar, now.
Latest watches for me:
Barbara - 2012 - Christian Petzold
Yella - 2007 - Christian Petzold Spoiler regarding Yella:
The Love Witch - 2016 - Anna Biller
Jerichow - 2008 - Christian Petzold
A Short Film About Love - 1988 - Krzysztof Kieslowski
I'm really enjoying Christian Petzold films, with Nina Hoss. Unfortunately, Phoenix is listed, but doesn't appear to be available in Canada. I order the Criterion Blu-ray from amazon, but it's taking a long time to ship, even though it shows as 'in stock.'

I watched “Meet Me in St. Louis” and “An American in Paris” for the first time. I liked the latter movie better though I enjoyed the music in the first one.
I also watched “The Third Man” before it got pulled and thought it was okay. I have a brand new unopened Blu-ray of this movie that I may unload.
I also watched “The Man Who Fell to Earth” before it was pulled and I hated it. I’m glad I didn’t get caught up in the hype in trying to get the discontinued disc.

Some great musicals added this month
Finished up for me and my Gal and just started 7 Brides for 7 Bros.. excellent transfers..
just reiterating I've been extremely pleased with this service so far, fun content, rotating a lot of stuff in and out, picks up the streams from my phone and two fire sticks... much better than filmstruck was imho

I'm loving this service. I know that there's not a lot of discussion on this thread but I'm loving how each month they are bringing a thematic theme recently.
So last month was Musicals and was able to catch some that I never seen before, now this month, the are highlighting 70's Sci-Fi. I watched Clockwork Orange and will be watching Demon Seed and Soylent Green.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- streaming service
Yep, I'm definitely renewing, too.
My only gripes are that the interface still needs a 'back 15 seconds' option, and to remember where you left off, if you happen to stop watching (or, accidentally hit 'back' in your browser, if you're using that interface).
Also, that I still keep finding content not available, due to being in Canada. The latest was The Kid With a Bike. Very annoying because there is a 'collection' called 'Three by the Dardenne Brothers,' of which I can only watch two.
They now have a pulldown menu to allow you to select your country, so I can see that there are 1997 items for the U.S., and 1873 items for Canada. So just under 7% of the content. Not a huge number, but it seems to frequently be something I want to see. If it's an issue of another copyright holder, in Canada, why do I never see these items available on Canadian streaming services, or channels?
My latest watches:
River of Grass - 1994 - Kelly Reichardt
Sweetie - 1989 - Jane Campion
Suburbia - 1983 - Penelope Spheeris
Monterey Pop - 1968 - D.A. Pennebaker
SplitScreen:Harmony Korine - 2003 - John Pierson
Freaks - 1932 - Tod Browning
A Kid For Two Farthings - 1955 - Carol Reed
The Ballad of Jack and Rose - 2005- Rebecca Miller
Cet obscur objet du désir/That Obscure Object of Desire - 1977 - Luis Buñuel
A Boy and His Dog - 1975 - L.Q. Jones

I too have been liking this quite a bit and will be renewing as well. Watched Taxi Driver over the weekend (with the Scorsese/Shrader commentary from the mid-80s). I don't have the blu ray and hadn't heard that commentary in full - was a great listen and highly recommended.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- streaming service
Though it's not obvious, the interface has been improved. You can use the arrow keys (in the browser version) to skip forward and back. Slightly clunky, but overall a huge improvement.
Still, it wouldn't hurt to add a 'go back/forward 15 seconds' button to the GUI.
Been slow, lately, as I've been bingeing a lot of different shows on other streaming services.
L'enfant/The Child - 2005 - Jean-Pierre Dardenne, Luc Dardenne
I bambini ci guardano/The Children Are Watching Us - 1944 - Vittorio De Sica
Sans toit ni loi/Vagabond - 1985 - Agnès Varda
37°2 le matin/Betty Blue - 1986 - Jean-Jacques Beineix
The Court Jester - 1955 - Melvin Frank, Norman Panama
La noire de.../Black Girl - 1966 - Ousmane Sembene
I wish they'd get more Dardenne films. I really enjoy them. Likewise with De Sica.

I watched the following films recently:
- Hollywood Shuffle
- Shaft
- Hanzo The Razor: Sword of Justice
- Hanzo The Razor: The Snare
- Hanzo The Razor: Who Got the Gold?
- Tale of Zatoichi Continues
Watching Shaft and Hanzo back to back, I couldn't help but wonder about the similarities in terms of the soundtrack for Shaft and Sword of Justice.

I got an email today with a $10 code for the criterion website that I'm not going to use. Here's the code if anyone wants it "NH5Y1X".

I watched Half of Loaf of Kung Fu and Fearless Hyena and quality wise, is the best I ever seen. No more horrible dubbing to put up with and VHS like image quality. Nice to see it in their original language with competent subtitles. I don't remember in the countless previous viewing in regards to the Looney Tunes and Popeye music and sounds effect, but they are present in the Criterion version.
Half of Loaf of Kung Fu has not aged well IMHO, but Fearless is still good. Not on the same level as Drunken Master or Snake in the Eagle Shadow but for his first directorial debut, it still relevant. If you seen Kung Fu Panda, now you know where the chopsticks scene comes from.

Has Criterion said anything about any work they're doing to update the apps? It feels like it hasn't changed at all in the first year, and it's missing what I would think are 'obvious' features for the company; specifically filtering by country or director. It just kind of feels like they dumped the app out because it was good enough and are either too restricted to update it in any meaningful way, or don't have the resources to do so. Though apparently the Apple/Subtitles issue was fixed, so clearly there's some work going on there.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- streaming service
Did they ever add 5.1 sound capability? That was the big deal-breaker for me when they started- plus a few titles like Mulholland Drive (which I now have on D-VHS with proper sound) were in mono on top of that.
