re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Do you need a provider to watch HBO Max? I do not have cable or any existing provider except for Amazon Prime Video which I just subscribed to. I had a monthly HBO Max subscription a few months ago and went to subscribe again to watch Space Jam 2. I clicked on the ad free plan for $15. I paid through apple on my iphone using paypal as the method of payment. HBO Max sends me an email saying I am in a free trial which I don’t qualify for. I haven’t been charged yet for anything after about 8 hours. However when I try to watch HBO Max, it wants me to sign into a provider like Hulu or Apple TV.

I was able to watch a few months ago on my iphone however now I cannot even watch on my iphone without being asked to sign into a provider. I even signed up for Amazon Prime Video with the aim of subscribing to HBO Max through Amazon Prime Video. Amazon Prime Video is listed as a provider. I watched a few youtube videos and it seemed like it would work since if you buy HBO(The order page says HBO Max on Amazon) you should have access to HBO Max when you sign into the provider on the HBO Max app or website.

Is there another way around the provider sign up? It says on my HBO Max profile that I don’t have an active subscription maybe because they need to verify through a provider first.

You absolutely do not. You can sign up directly from www.HBOMax.com. You just need a credit card. It's $14.99 regular or $9.99 ad-supported (no first-run theatrical features included).

Yeah Like Decker said...HBOMAx is a stand alone service. No cable tv sub needed.
I subbed to it directly through HBOMax and watch it on their apps on my Roku and Phone. I haven't had a Cable TV sub for years.

You have two options when you sign into HBO Max, Sign in with a Provider or with the HBO Max account directly (Email and Password). Sometimes a third "Restore Purchase" option appears.

I would just do like the others said - go directly to hbomax.com and sign up from there.

re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Thank you all for the replies. However I have tried at least multiple times to play a movie on HBO Max on HBOMax.com and in the HBOMax app in google play store and it always leads me to the page where I have to use a provider to watch. In my iphone app page it says I am subscribed to HBO Max but I did receive an email from HBO Max saying I am in a free trial which I don't qualify for. I haven't been charged anything in paypal or bank account since 4am EST when I subscribed on iphone through the app. Furthermore, HBO Max says I am not subscribed in the subscriptions tab in my profile. I may end up seeing Spacejam 2 soon in theaters at this rate. I could try to subscribe to HBO Max through Amazon Prime Video as a provider but I not sure if it will work.

I just tried the HBO Max App through google play and it now works and says I am subscribed through apple.

I have found the interface for HBO Max seems to vary by platform. When I used the Comcast App it behaves and displays differently than when I use the Firestick. I wonder if this is a platform-specific thing. Lost my access to Max recently so I can't check.

You'd think that even though the apps are different and probably have different developers, that they would try to unify at the very least the look and feel, but nope.

It could just be my perception, but it feels like they've backed away from some of the made for HBO movies, so this may be just a way of rebranding those...maybe adding a few more.

I did a relatively long survey a few weeks ago asking about this. It was WB trying to gauge the best interest for HBO Max and their exclusive movies and theatrical releases.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

Did HBO Max remove the option of using HBO Now gift cards to pay for the service? I was a subscriber to the latter for a while in 2019, but let it lapse. Around Christmastime then I bought some gift cards during a Best Buy sale, in anticipation of HBO Max. Now that they offer a cheaper $10 tier, I'd like to cash them in. So yesterday I went to the HBO Now gift card redemption site, inputted my username and password - which are still active on the main site and also logs me into HBO Max - but I get an error saying there's a problem with my username and password.

I did everything their troubleshooting said. I reset my password, tried a different browser, tried a different device, attempted to sign up for a new account with a different email, etc. I kept getting that error. I'd really hate for these gift cards to go to waste.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

I still have a few of those cards, so I hope you can still use them. I know you can only use them if you don’t have an active account. You basically have to cancel and let your subscription lapse before using the cards. At least that’s how it was the last time I used them.

I had same issue the other day. I changed my password and somehow got it to work. But it was a 15 minute process that annoyed the shit out of me. I still have 5 more cards to use.

And Decker is right. Let your account lapse. Then go in and add one. The system is absurd. Like they can't figure out a way to incorporate them to HBO Max?

FYI the $30 card gave me just shy of 2 months.

Y'all give me hope. Ha ha. However, I attempted to redeem a card yesterday and kept getting the same error. Tonight I'll reset my password again and see what happens. I'd ask, "don't you want my money?!", but since these are gift cards, they already got it.

Any of you with an LG OLED? Looks like you can install the HBO Max app if you switch your location to Mexico, download it, then switch back to USA.

Will do. I just now tried it again with yet another reset password. Still get the error. Also tried signing up for a new account with a different address. No dice. I sent an email to customer service detailing the problem. Hopefully they can fix it and don't just send me a list of troubleshooting tips. (All of which I've tried.)

Yup, it is.

It's interesting how the Unrated version now passes itself off as the R-cut. The R-version has gone extinct! (That is, if you're able to find the VHS or the old DVD at a thrift store)

Can't believe they actually launched a new reality series called FBoy Island. Seems like Jack Donaghy has finally found a new landing spot!

The fact that they tabbed Nikki Glaser to host tells you how serious you should take it.
