More titles being removed, with seeming confirmation that they want to sell them to ad supported services. Earlier they admitted they're taking a bigger write off than originally announced as well. This comes as more shows are being removed from the streaming service including Raised By Wolves, Head of the Class and The Time Traveler’s Wife as well as reality shows FBoy Island, Legendary and Finding Magic Mike.The company is taking these shows, most of which were previously known to be canceled (only Finding Magic Mike is newly scrapped), off the platform and instead put together a package of shows to license to third-party FAST channels. While many of these shows are produced by other studios including the likes of Scout Productions and STX, sources said that arrangements have been made even if complete deals haven’t closed. Westworld, the Warner Bros TV-produced series that Deadline revealed was being lined up for free streaming, is also among this list of shows, alongside The Nevers. Meanwhile, the rights to Gordita Chronicles, Love Life, Made For Love, The Garcias and Minx, which have been canceled, are reverting to the producers and studios behind them. The company said that it is speaking with studio partners about opportunities to “further expand the reach of the shows, including but not limited to licensing the series to third-party FAST platforms”. “All those write-offs… we didn’t take one show off a platform that is going to help us in any way,” he added on a recent earnings call. |

For decades, HBO was a premium brand. They were creating prestige programming like Sex and the City and The Sopranos. Twenty years ago, these were huge pop culture phenomenons, and also closely identified with the HBO brand. So when you see them stripping the carcass and selling off even recent prestige shows to junk peddlers like Tubi, it's kind of alarming and feels like the old HBO is no more. It's like if Apple started letting companies that sell cheap MP3 players license the "iPod" name. You really get a sense that they're letting go. |

It's the removing of Warner-produced material from HBO Max outright that is surprising, not the licensing of it to Ad-supported platforms. I do wonder if they'll stay in rotation on HBO channels though, since they seem to be working to distance HBO Max from HBO proper? |

One, that HBO would rent out their crown jewel to a commercial-supported cable station while it was still in production. And, on top of that, the episodes would be censored and filled with commercials for Taco Bell and class action settlements. Two, that A&E paid out two hundred million dollars for the rights to a watered down show, then seemed to barely show it. |

It looks like all these shows they've announced as leaving show as "Leaving December 18". Does that mean they'll be there all day Sunday? Or will they disappear after Saturday?
I'm currently trying to binge the second season of "Raised by Wolves" and "FBoy Island" before they leave, but not sure I can do it by the end of Saturday. |

I always thought the Max part of HBO was referring to HBO to the max, or HBO maximum. Like the highest level of HBO. Never even crossed my mind that it had anything to do with Cinemax, because it was pretty obvious it didn't lol.
It's already been said but taking the HBO brand name off is a head scratcher. Until you realize if they have a new app that isn't HBO branded, they'll be able to double charge. You want HBO? Buy HBO through your cable. You want Max? Buy that too, to get access to HBO stuff online. They're rolling back the clock to when HBO & HBO Now were separate entities. It's greedy & it's gross. It also auto cancels all the marketing deals out there that offer "HBO Max" for free like AT&T phone subscribers get. Can't get something for free that doesn't exist anymore. Capitalism sucks. |

Warner Bros. Discovery is raising the monthly price of HBO Max for the first time since launching it more than two years ago. Effective Thursday, Jan. 12, the price of a new HBO Max ad-free monthly subscription in the U.S. will increase from $14.99 to $15.99 plus applicable taxes. That’s about a 7% increase. Existing HBO Max subscribers who are currently paying $14.99/month will see their monthly rate increase to $15.99 effective their next billing cycle on or after Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023. “This price increase of one dollar will allow us to continue to invest in providing even more culture-defining programming and improving our customer experience for all users,” the company said in a statement. HBO Max launched in May 2020 at $14.99/month, back when it was part of AT&T-owned WarnerMedia. In June 2021, the company introduced an ad-supported HBO Max plan that costs $9.99/month; it isn’t immediately clear if the price of that package also will be increasing. Warner Bros. Discovery is prepping a merged HBO Max-Discovery+ platform, set to launch in the U.S. in the spring of 2023. The company hasn’t announced details on pricing, packaging or a name yet (although “Max” is the leading contender at this point). |

At least it’s only 7%. I bailed on Apple when they hiked it 40%. Granted that was still less than half of HBO, but they don’t have much content either.

It's $1. That's nothing. The amount of shows and movies that HBO has makes it more than worth it. But luckily I have that 1 year promo locked in that I also got an additional discount using my AMEX card. I'll worry about the new price when the time comes later this year.

I can’t find any mention of it Here but last year maybe after august they offered a monthly $12 plan good for a year.
After the increase was announced I wondered if that would effect these monthly deals. It appears it effected my plan as it went up $3 to $14.99. Okay well Nevermind. looks like I’ve had this deal for a year already. Interesting that my price went to $15 and not $16 a month. Guess I’ll be cancelling |

I'm trying to find a bit more on reviews of HBO Max with Ads as to how it all works and just how annoying is it with TV Shos and Movies...The Last of Us series is on and having a PS5 supposedly there's a discount for a Yearly Sub with Ads. We have Amazon and Disney but no ads so don't have nothing to compare before grabbing the deal or not. |

HBO Max was actually broadcasting live International soccer last night. It was USA vs Serbia. I saw a little bit of it and the broadcast quality looked good. Only reason why I heard of it was because one of our reporters at NFL Network Sara Walsh got hired by WB to be a host of the soccer coverage.
